@matty d it has several times in my lifetime, the last hurricane ran across florida and destroyed 1000s of homes and people were hunting for suppliess. it has happened to me about twenty times.
@matty d Your comment is now the ripe old age of one year……… do you still stand by that? Because there have been plenty of bare grocery store shelves locally and we haven’t even scratched the surface of what’s coming.
You have no reason to watch fertilizer prices….. but if you did, and knew what it meant for the stores, you would be getting prepared now. In one year I’ll check back in with you and see if you have reconsidered the need for preparedness 😉
Awesome video. Very educational. I am retired military. And have been all over the world. Damn good advice about food shortages and living off the land.
Hog jaw bacon....dude that literally made my mouth water :-). You looked like a king sitting behind that big pile of bacon just chillin hahaha! Love it buddy...that was a good one!
I watched the video to the end, and you got a point. If seven percent of all americans really believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows, then america got a serious "food illiteracy" problem. Thanks for helping with this problem.
Thanks so much my friend........ I’m afraid the numbers are worse than previously thought. A good percentage of people think that store bought meat was treated more humanely than wild caught meat! That’s ridiculous!
You have taken me back to my days as a 5yr old boy. Seeing for the first time a Tennessee Country ham, bacon and sausage hanging in their natural environment! I can still smell it now. I can see the rind on it. Thank you for that!
I like that . " I ain't got enough bacon for all you guys " reminds me of an old saying " give a man a fish and feed him today . Teach him to fish and feed him for life " I feel like I will eat bacon for life sir , thank you 😊❤🎉🎉🎉😊
i nearly cried looking at that meat is so damn beautiful i wish we had wild hogs over here in the uk i could eat that whole pile of bacon in one sitting im telling ya
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures me too i think some private hunting reserves over here have them but they're olny for rich folk and i can't use bow without getting locked up for poaching and firearms are too expensive over here because of some stupid laws we got
THIS IS MAKING MY MOUTH WATER......I REMEMBER OUR SMOKE HOUSE....DIDN'T REALIZE HOW BLESSED WE WERE, LIVING OFF THE LAND. BETTER THAN STORE BOUGHT BACON....DADDY'S HAM WAS WONDERFUL! THANK YOU
We did ours a bit different. Left the salt on a day or so longer and rubbed it in. And we filled out smokehouse up with the hams and hocks, sausages and bacon. And we smoked a day or so longer. Then everything stayed hanging in the smokehouse untill we needed it. Nice video.
Oh my god i definitely enjoyed watching this video that bacon looked soooooo good, I'm a bacon lover myself, as soon as i can figure out how to grow bacon....it's on!!! 🤣
Good morning from Arkansas. You have a wealth of knowledge in your head. It's good you are showing your boys how to make it in case that day comes. I really enjoy watching your channel. It makes me think back in time. Have a super day.
Thank you! this was very informational and appreciated! Kudos to you for teaching us this from pig to dressing it and how to collect the bacon. PLUS, how to cure it and smoke it. Thank you again!
The cooler salt method probably saves you a ton of salt. Its so cool to come back to these older videos and see how youve improved on things. RU-vid is a wonderful resource for sure
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! I really got a lot out of this one! I did also enjoy the little talk at the end too. "No matter how smart you are, you'll never outsmart hunger or the need to eat." Wise words!
Well dang! LOOK at all that bacon!! That's a sight! a family friend has a hog problem on his farm, think Ima pay him a visit! Although technically it's a Bushpig problem, we call them "Bosvark" - the v is pronounced as an f. I think they're much leaner but they're free for the taking so we won't complain 😁
Well said my man. Been making my own bacon and curing pork shoulder since December. Dropped a couple of goolies but its a learning process. They now have come good, boy is it worth the effort. I cant wait to get out of bed for my breakfast.😀😁😀
Hey, I'm glad I stumbled across your video, I watched and enjoyed it from beginning to end..when I was a small boy my Grand Parents had a wood stove to cook on and nothing else..also had an out house, but they modernized not long after that...with inside plumbing and electricity..got rid of their farm horses and got a Tractor,..quit milking by hand and got milking machines.. that was in the early 50's..
Welcome to the heart of Tennessee! I think I heard that you have wild hogs in California..... They are a problem wherever they are and farmers will usually let you hunt them. Thanks for watching and God bless!!
Great video. Straight forward, informative and no BS. Wish I lived in an area that had to many wild hogs, but I do know the problem they are for farmers so keep on eating the wild meat.
The way you smoked the wild pig is same with us and the color of wild hog bacon is so beautiful .its so yammy to cook such meat with green pepper &garlic sprouts。BTW I am from china. I have to say that the tongue /ear/organ and foot of pig are more delicious than the meat of pig.well done
Wow this summer I gotta get a smokehouse done and hopefully fill it up with some bear lol. You really made it look easy other channels I’ve watched that make bacon has always been complicated.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures Me? NONE! I went to our local Sav-Alot and bought a couple of 20 pound boxes of pork bacon that was cured and processed by the Amish in Pennsylvania. I would do our own, but where we live - no live stock allowed. Bummer. However the bacon that the Amish process is very affordable, and VERY tasty! savealot.com/
RiFF RaFF Yes our save a lot has that deal going as well! But you could’ve done this big bacon because it was wild out in the woods not had to be raised!
Great video ! I learn about fillet off the rib today. Thanks for showing. Your place reminds me of my uncle Ed place in S.C. Happy Holidays to you and the boys. First time seeing your show. Looking forward to your other videos.
Awesome vid here! I need to go get my first wild hogs soon and this will be the first thing I do with them! Since I’m in Iowa I have to drive south to find hogs.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I’m also trying to somewhat follow your goose proscuitto recipe. First time trying it so not sure what to expect but I’ll upload to my channel good or bad lol. My favorite goose recipe so far was goose pastrami.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I’ve been binge watching your channel since I found it a few days ago. Great stuff I’m really enjoying all the knowledge shared.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I will my brother is a truck driver currently living in Shreveport Louisiana. gonna tell him about you all.... Peace and love... both of us raised out in the woods of Bienville Parish Louisiana... fishing on the bayou, 25 cent watermelons, free fish if you want to clean them... Ha ha... was eating your site up!!!
Oh Man! Very Nicely Done, Sir!! Especially your editorial comments at the end. If things go farther south (than Texas or Florida!) they will be killing each other in the Big Blue Fog Zones (BBFZ's) over the last pack of Oreos from 7-11. Just Sayin'. And - those boys don't know how good they got it! Look forward to your next presentation.
Great video McGie. I never had pork jowls, I have to look at my local butcher see if they carry any. My mother had a sawing machine just like that one on the background; good old days.
God bless you and your family mc gie .. Lived in Texas for 5 years , and as a Frenchman, your cuisine is for me the best I have ever tried. Cheers from the French alps
Your bacon looked really good ! It looked like it made a lot . I got my first add from your channel i'm glad to see it . I would like to have one of those stoves but there pricey .
Aaric Hale Yes they are! Anything made out of metal is high dollar LOL! I don’t like that part about it LOL Yes that bacon made a lot I was extremely surprised how much bacon came out of one wild sow!
Yea buddy you're not lying about that cherry wood, my uncle brings me some and i love grilling with it. Especially when I split it and I smell the wood before lighting it up. Man that stuff smells good.
I'm as country as a turnip green and never knew you could make bacon from a wild pig. Do you ever sugar cure smoke bacon 🥓 that would be awesome. Thanks for the info
