Too much "EGO" ...arguing ( who should get the CREDIT) Still no one really knows who is responsible for the song! Stevie has taken all the credit... But in TRUTH . . . It was a colaboration (sp?) #Wild Horses get the credit!
WOW blast from the past. WMMS in Cleveland Ohio. Jeff & Flash in the mornings, Mr Leonard, Boom Boom Goldberg. Memories..Oh dont forget Ruby Cheeks. Those were the days my friend. Weed Makes Me Smile :-} WMMS
I saw Wild Horses live @ the Hudson Haunted House with Uncle Vic back in the day. Great show. My friend Marvin and I walked halfway home to Stow and then got a ride from one of Hudson's finest. It was a blast.
I grew up on Stow Road one house over from the corner of Stow and Ravenna Roads. I would bet you walked right past our house. I believe I saw them the same time but I was living in Kent then working at Mothers and Ray's. Great Memories!
I saw them in Idora Park in Youngstown Ohio in 80 or 81. Right before the fire burned down the ballroom. They had a bunch of mostly local bands. I think Wild Horses was one of the bigger bands. I had the Wild Horses t shirt, wore it til it fell apart. Good times!
I first heard this on KROQ radio in California when the song came out. I just loved the way the singer phrases like "ought to be thankful just being alive" man, this is the way I want to sing!
These guys are only one of the reasons Cleveland, Ohio IS THE ROCK CAPITAL!!!! Bands like Wild Horses and radio fm WMMS 100.7, the Agora (stage bar) set the foot print of rock & roll here..."the north coast" Where is "Kid Leo" these days? Damn I would love to have the 'coffe break' concerts back, what's up with marketing these days. Cleveland is SO rich with talent. These are true rock & rollers...not american idol promo's. Stay "FUNKY" people
Saw these guys at the Hudson Haunted House, Uncle Vic from WGCL radio hosted the event. Had to walk home in a snow storm. A Hudson PD officer picked us up halfway and gave us a ride. Good times........good times.
Uncle Vic was hilarious! I grew up around Cedar Point and listened to WGCL most of the time, but of course I also listened to the Buzzard. I remember winning an Album (33 1/3) from the station (WGCL) Cherished it for a long time.
@@matthewsmith9091 I listened to MMS as well, had the most stupid commercial, DJ said W...M...M....S, and did double guns at the end. Can't remember that dudes name, just remember laughing our @sses off at him. Do you remember "Dancing" Danny Wright on the mid day shift on WGCL? He was great as well.
@@neoblakkrstal9865 Once I was driving the Ohio Turnpike around that time on a Saturday morning and one of the big time rockers of the time CANNOT remember who...did a promo for WMMS and said "and just remember...WMMS is pronounced...I guess...WHIMMMMMS!" Almost wrecked my car I was laughing so hard
I'm here because my dad (working in Mentor at the time) sent me a picture of a poodle from one of his jobs with the hair on its ears and tail dyed rainbow colors. We live in Japan and when I showed my wife (Japanese) the picture, all she said was "funky". lol Life's fun, eh?
Ah, Billy, Dennis & and the boys....friday nights at the Cellar Door or saturdays at the Flipside.......thanks for the memories fella's.....it was a great time to be young - dancing, drinking, just having fun with the Joy of Life.
This song reminds me of the old Pre Disney Times Square 8th Ave and 42nd street I think I was humming this song in that neighborhood on a Sunday night 1985 summer wandering around that hood about the same time uncle vic was probably playing it in Cleveland
I was working at Little Tykes in Macedonia on Freeway Drive in 1980 when this song came out. WMMS would play it on the hour. At least that the way I remember it. I grew to hate this song but now, it's kind of cool. Go figure....
I saw these guys play at the Hudson Haunted House Oct 80 or 81 I spent every fall of highschool working at the haunted house Anyways The Horses played this and parking lot went absolutely NUTS!!
OMG, WNCX played this today and I was instantly 15 again, in my room trying desperately to get the Cleveland station to come in so I could listen to Uncle Vic and hear songs like this. God. Who plays this now? WNCX evidently. ROCK ON CLEVELAND!
Great to hear this , I used to see them at the Flipside Pirates Cove Akron Agora Blossom Music Center Etc : I even have the two Wild Horses LP's , Wild Horses & Bar Wars .
Hey, I was there at the akron agora too. That was a damn great place to be. Wild horses was excellent. Women was hot looking too. Rage in the cage. When the women would climb up in the dance cage on the walls. Great memories.
WOOHOO!!! I heard Funky Poodle during the last part of a free outdoor concert you guys did at Miami Univ in Oxford, Ohio in Sept 1981. Only time in my life I _ever_ won concert tickets (from WOXY, The Future of Rock and Roll! (Thanks Raymond)) was to your concert at the Res on Oct 16, 1982. - Then I had an emergency in Cincinnati and couldn't go. - (Boo Hiss) I heard Funky Poodle just that one time and I've waited 25 1/2 years to hear it again. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Saw this great group only once in person, at the Hudson Haunted House!, in the freezing cold parking lot. Around 1979, I think. Fantastic. -Eddie from Maple Hts
GREAT SONG,loved the comments about the SAHARRA CLUB brought back great memories, dont live in that area anymore HATE THE SNOW! least the kind that falls on the ground LOL great times and area for live rock and roll.
I remember seeing these guys live back in the early 80's, just not sure where! It was a large bar in or near Elyria, Oh, It might have been Uncle Vics, but I doubt it. There was another club that was not located in downtown Elyria...help me out here people!
That's true, but Mr. Robertson wasn't in this band. This is the American Wild Horses, which is completely unrelated to the British one. Same name, different bands!
FUNKY POODLE YA!!! REMEMBER THIS FROM EARLY HIGH SCHOOL IN LOS ANGELES IN THE 80s ON 'KROQ'...F***IN WILD TIMES...KIDS TODAY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE....PEACEOUT
Yes the band picture is wrong. Wild Horses Steve Jocham. Probably got the spelling wrong. Fantastic song from 1980 the year I graduate high school in Cleveland. Later was used in a Jennifer Aniston movie.
@MaccaIsYoDaddy ME TOO!!!! and the Loft and the Stuffed Mushroom right off Crane ave bridge..My mother worked at KSU for my entire life till 95.. What a great time I had growing up hanging with the college kids in Kent.......
One of my MANY favorites on K-R-O-Q "ROQ of the 80's" in Pasadena, CA (pronounced PAH-SAAD-EE-NAH by KROQers). -- Fuck me, fuck me poodle. Fuck me poodle.
