Well Peeps! Bronco, the 6 month old Husky-Shepherd rescue, is back with his fam, ready for his new life. He traded in his diapers over the course of 3 weeks, for some big boy pants, & is now equipped with an unbelievable obedience foundation built on respect, impulse control, and a healthy state of mind.
Bronco came to us supercharged on leash, cautious around strange dogs, a bit fearful of new things, and a smidge stubborn. During his stay he learned all of his basic obedience commands, AND how to defer to his person for all decision making;)
We talked about how he will structure and consistency until he is completely trustworthy. The key to all of this is in patterning the behavior we want more of, being mindful of how we may unintentionally be rewarding the bad stuff, and holding him accountable for any crusty shenanigans he was privy to in the past.
We discussed how micromanaging all of his choices until they become habitual and second nature is the goal for the next few of months until he starts defaulting into making good choices all on his own. At no point should he be allowed to make his own decisions quite yet. Too much freedom at this stage of his development could spell disaster!
Bronco is well on his way to having that amazing bond all of us dog owners crave with our pets! I am so thrilled for his family to experience the everywhere dog they’ve always wanted, and the true nature of this sweet boy when he has a calmer, more balanced state of mind!
Miss you already lil-Boo-Boo! 🖤
