LAKEWOOD: On 11-19-21 at approximately 12:30pm, LAPD officers were in pursuit of an armed carjacker in the city of Los Angeles. The pursuit made its way to the city of Commerce before entering Orange County in the 5 freeway. The suspect then got on the Lincoln Avenue offramp and then went back down the offramp onto traffic lanes. The suspect then began driving Northbound on the 5 freeway in the Southbound lanes. The suspect drove the wrong way on the 5 freeway until he got to Valley View street. The suspect came to a stop and LAPD officers began trying to get the driver to surrender. The suspect then turned the car around and began driving on the 5 freeway southbound going the right way. The suspect exited Beach Blvd. the suspect drove in city streets, running red lights and avoiding spike or PIT attempts. The suspect then made his way to the city of Lakewood where he had flat tires and came to a stop after being pinned. LAPD officers used less than lethal rounds to shatter the rear window. The suspect then came out and fought off the police k9. The suspect got back in his vehicle and drove away before being pitted again. The driver surrendered and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Thankfully no other injuries were reported during this dangerous pursuit.
