I was listening to James Taylor the other evening while driving to pick my daughter up from work, and heard his beautiful rendition of this song from his 2015 album, "Before This World." It inspired me to start working on my own arrangement, and in the process of researching the song, I came across Scotland native, Stephen Wake's gorgeous arrangement of the song. I really felt like I couldn't improve on what he did with it, so I committed to learn it yesterday, and sat down last night to record the video.
While playing this yesterday, I couldn't help replay scenes in my mind from our family trip to Scotland, and ponder my own Scottish heritage. My Mom's grandmother, Minerva, was born an Elliott descended from the proud Scottish border Clan Elliott. There were Lairds and Earls in her line, and even a castle called Stobs which now lies in ruins.
All but one of the pics I included in this video are from our trip, and they include Loch Ness and the incredible highlands vista of Glencoe, and the cap I'm wearing, which I've donned in several videos, is my souvenir from Cockburn Street in Edinburgh...just to add a little more authenticity. I hope you enjoy my effort here to pay a little homage to my great-grandmother's lineage, and a far country that feels a little like home to me. #G7thcapo #MatonGuitars #Scotland #ClanElliott
