There are so many abusive trainers out there but this , this is beautiful, people would be slapping that horse with the whip for stopping at that mare, but this is beautiful, amazing training.

Horses are such sensitive creatures and with any animal especially a horse the first step is being calm and having compassion with patience and respect towards the horse and sensing their emotions for enabling a solid foundation which a crucial step of gaining trust and developing a partnership which is an important step for training and these great people practice that principle Others can use bully tactics and forceful measures which can potentially in the long run cause some trauma psychologically in the long run and a never ending cycle of flight and fight responses in certain situations with absolutely no fault of their own which is sad to see because owners/trainers dont go back to basics and learn why and address it instead the animal is seen as problematic Time is of the essence with horses and unfortunately most dont make time to realize there is beauty in every single horse but most live in a fast world where time is money and the horse bears the brunt of human error These trainers practice a gentle approach to training which creates a sound horse from the beginning with trust which is true horemanship to a beautiful partnership Thank you for your kindness and l love watching your video and hopefully others can take a lesson or two from this great video! Horses take my breath away - Such Gorgeous creatures! God bless all Animals ❤ Peace to all ✌

Hi Steven. First time watching your channel and I really like your calm approach. I would like to foster or adopt a feral mare approx 9 yo that was picked up pregnant by the NM Livestock Board and taken to a NM rescue several months before she foaled. She's been there since February 2019. They're calling her feral but that's basically what mustangs are, right? (I've heard many times that there aren't any truly wild horses left in the US.) So the "gentled" guidelines used by the MHF would logically apply to this feral mare I have my eye on?
@SteveDyer
@SteveDyer 4 года назад
Glad you are watching. I have about 100 videos on the channel; many of them with mustangs. You are right that the mare is the same as a mustang and she will be difficult to gentle. If you live anywhere near Farmington I can recommend someone to help you.

Again, you must get her feet moving. Use a training stick, or coils of a rope against her neck; whatever it take to get her moving. Backing up in horse language is telling her she is the dominate and you are submitting to her.

It's not a whip in the sense that we are trying to punish the horse. We use it to get movement from the horse when asked. There is an element of fear in the beginning because of the noise it makes. Moment on request is the first essential element of training a horse.
