Bears are deceptively savage. They look calm even when stalking you. They’re not screaming or roaring but will eat you nonetheless

When two bears fight they will roar. But if a bear wants to eat you. It is smart enough to only take a step when you step. This way it knows you will only hear your own footsteps while it sneaks up behind you.

Without purpose. Feeding or not, it doesn't impact the bears behaviour. There is a ban on seeking contact with polar bears, that's all. Try to avoid contact, if the bear sees you in the open, shoot it or get eaten alive, they often start in the stomach / back area.

This is an apex predator. It’s accustomed to seeing living beings as either food or an adversary (ie; another polar bear). Just because it’s big and furry doesn’t mean it’s in any way “being nice.” It’s curious… about how you taste. This one just happened to decide that this potential meal wasn’t worth the hassle. That’s all.

*Direct Translations NOR to ENG:* 1st Man: "It is a bit dangerous, a bit dangerous." 1st Female: "It is a beautiful teddy." 2nd Man: "When you start to tell a story, it becomes a little bit like,...it tops most stories." 3rd Man: "It happens several times. This that we feed polar bears. But this has to do with the ability to judge the polar bear by the same manner one judge people, wild animals or other situations. A polar bear sends signals, is it aggressive, is he hungry, does it want to do you harm and what you generally know about polar bears. That is does not have any natural enemies. So it doesnt generally know what it means to be scared other than the fear of other polar bears. Her, my wife also feeds the polar bear with cured meats and... later did I feed it later with, a younger polar bear I feed it with cod sandwich with mayo." Slightly background towards polar bear: "Ohh so good it was, so good it was. You enjoy Norwegian cod." inaudible similar (Polar bear lunges hes head towards the plate and grabs the bread in hes hands) "One more? One more... oufh" 3rd Man continues while slightly background (same person background btw): "...I showed it in hes mouth. No drama in it, but it looks pretty dramatic" (Polar bear lunges hes head towards the plate and grabs the bread in hes hands) .... (Polar bear on deck) 4th Man: "Steak it!" (Slang similar to "Oh my God.") ... "Huh, huh, wisszzz." 4th Man: "Devil in hell" (Slang similar to "F me that was close"), laughter, "That was torturing good." (Slang for the polar bear leaving being a good thing while it was exciting). END :D

+Soltan Ahmadli - That really just doesn't apply to polar bears. They basically have no innate fear of humans anyway, they already come romping towards humans the moment they see them (intending to eat them). This contrasts with most bears that avoid people (or at very least human settlements) and then become a danger once they learn to come to people for food. Since polar bears don't avoid humans in the first place you're not actually hurting anything by feeding them. Not helping anything...but not hurting anything either. If anything teaching them that if they don't eat the humans right away they might get other kinds of food might be of minor benefit.

@@Grebuez i didn't misunderstand your point at all. I completely get it but I think it's an idiotic point. There is no way that 40 years ago they thought it was a good idea to feed polar bears. It's always been "common sense" to respect those things that can kill you. The sad thing is that some people lack any sense never mind common sense.
@Grebuez
@Grebuez 3 года назад
@@rhoonah5849 ugh. We just dont see eye to eye. How would you know its not "common sense" to not feed the polar bears then and there? If that place practiced feeding the bear then its common sense to them to feed it instead of antagonizing it. See it this way, since when was it just known that smoking is bad for the health as common sense? Or that blows to the head causes concussion is common sense. There is no such thing as universal common sense. It differs and changes all the time.

To all the people who seem to think polar bears are like other bears, polar bears are not like grizzlies or any other kind of bear. Look at it this way, they were lunch to the polar bear until they fed it, then suddenly they were providers instead. These people are Norwegian, and Svalbard is a part of Norway. Polar bears are well known to dwell around there, and you are obligated by law to carry a gun there. Although they might seem reckless, if you think about it it’s not a wild idea to be friendly with a beast that has no fear of you and would charge you anyways. You can see the polar bear respecting the fact that they smacked its face, and it understood boundaries, so it retreated to its original position. Polar bears are not like bears in the sense that they fear humans until you are too friendly with them - they have no fear for humans to begin with, and they will board your boat or search your tent no matter if they’ve been familiarized or not.

THIS is why you don't get cozy with wild animals. Not because your food will make them sick, not because their mothers will abandon them if they smell human on them. It's because an animal that not only isn't afraid of humans, but knows it can get a meal out of them, is dangerous to itself and to people. If those guys had a gun and felt a little less safe, there might be one less polar bear in the world, and if the _polar bear_ felt less safe, there'd be one less norwegian, gun or not

ok so no i wouldnt do it, and yes it is obviously risky hand feeding a polar bear. BUT whether it was 30 years ago or today, it really makes no difference to the world other than a polar bear got some easy food. yes if everyone did this every day, it might have some repercussions, but they dont. so lighten up.

firstly, the video is from 30 years ago. secondly, i am, fairly obviously, referring to people making a big deal about feeding them, and particularly what was fed to them. which, it must be said, was probably not suitable for a polar bear, but in insignificant quantities, to say nothing of 30 years ago, it is really not a problem. it was about THAT, i was saying 'lighten up'.

It was funny to see the bear chomping down on those salmon sandwiches - which looked VERY tasty! However, it was NOT funny to see how that bear got on that boat. At that point they will not differentiate between being fed by a human and/or making one it's next meal.

Anytime humans feed bears, the bears become accustomed with equating people with food. It messes with the order of nature and makes it more likely that the bears will seek humans more often than not, and always expecting to be fed. This happened in Yellowstone park and generations of bears lost their instinct to hunt. Consequently a few generation of bears had to be fed everyday at a garbage dump until they weaned them from being fed. It wasn't an easy thing to do either. This is why in Yellowstone it is against the law to feed the bears. By the way see the comment below this one.
