GREAT video!! I’ve been subscribed for a bit but haven’t really commented. I have TONS of Rosa rubiginosa but the hips are soooo much smaller! My 3 acre farm has given me so many wild edibles & medicines that I can’t complain!😊🌹🌱

Thank you for this! I look forward to these videos and learn so much! 😊🌹 How long would you say these last? And what is your opinion on keeping them out of the sunlight? I'm typing this in the middle of the videos so you might have already answered these. 😁

how long would the oils last? i feel like the sun breaks down the oil quicker. shelf life on the oils is at least a year. you can always store them in the fridge, for a longer shelf life. like if you make a really big batch, and plan on using it for a while.

Just so everyone knows, you can't compare liquid measure of 8 ounces to weight measure of ounces. They are different. A scales' ounce and measuring cup ounce is not interchangeable. Also we are having a wonderful fall here in the north Georgia mountains, too! I just harvested some rose hips on Sunday and they are drying. Fixing to plant some garlic.

thanks for bringing that to my attention, garlic planting sounds nice. our fall is over now its been snowing and it will be down to zero this weekend, haha. she was a short and sweet fall

Can we use the rose hip that are not very RIPE AND PLUMYY ? Are they good to make the syrup in any way. Thank you for your videos and that are very educative and useful. !!!!
@simplyjosephine
@simplyjosephine 3 года назад
ya know i'm not really sure without seeing them in person. the higher quality of the rosehip the higher quality of the final product. but with that said a mediocre syrup is better than no syrup at all. you can always pop the rosehips in the freezer for a few hours, if you haven't had a frost yet. frost really enhances the overall flavor of rosehips.

Hi… you never mentioned the hairs inside the rose hip before blending. Aren’t we suppose to remove the hair that creates itching! I’m confused as some videos stress on removing hair. You are using all the rose hip! Help!
@simplyjosephine
@simplyjosephine 3 года назад
hello ~ the hairs are removed at the time of straining. make sure to strain through a cheesecloth or other fine cloth weave. older cloth napkins and hanky type fabrics work well for straining.

@@simplyjosephine Thank you for getting back to me.. I am not understanding completely only because if you are putting all the rose-hip to be all blended, the hairs in the blend mixed together will be in the whole blend as well even if you are straining the rose-hip in a cheeseclothÉ I understand the hairs are itchy to the skin or if you swallow them, they itch the throat.

So hey, to anyone that is looking at making any sort of rosehip preparation, keep in mind that the drying process destroys much of the vitamin C. So generally, you'll only want to dry them if you're making some kind of infusion oil or topical, so that the water content doesn't make your oil infusion rancid. However, if you're wanting to make anything to be ingested, use them as soon as you possibly can after fresh harvest. I was really disappointed because I learned that fact about the vitamin C shortly after I had strained my first ever rosehip tincture made with dried rosehips from a local apothecary. And while that tincture came out very well and contains much vital medicine (also it's just delicious, I have to stop myself from drinking it), it was a bit of a bummer to discover that it's missing most of its vitamin C. So basically your option for rosehip tincture and elixir if you want the true medicine is *fresh wild harvest*. You just have to offset your alcohol menstruum for the amount of moisture in the fruit. I suggest (A75:W25) or stronger, since Vit C is most soluble in alcohol. So while there's no wrong way necessarily...some ways are better than others. Her drying process seems pretty short and gentle, so I'm not knocking it at all. But it's good to know these things!
