I mean, the way marvel writes it makes the story very different. (Which is a point my friend brought up and also hated). For an example, during the Infinity Wars movie, when Gamora asks Starlord to kill her, Drax immediately becomes the comic relief not a minute afterwards. And this is something that becomes apparent in a lot of movies. This is most likely why the Marvel movies do so well with the children.
My dad was an animator for this movie, so I know one of the reasons they didn't go with this idea is because they thought the shock collar thing was to dark and inhumane for a place that's supposed to be considered perfect. Edit: To anyone who wants to talk about my dad, please don't. This comment was meant for me to give a reason why this version of the movie wasn't the end result, not to talk about my dad. Edit: To anyone who says that that was the entire point of the movie, I know, but that wasn't the point I was making. The point is that it wasn't subtle at all.
Well that would add to the message tbh, like it's seen as perfect and free even though they have the collars. Like the oppression is just normalized for that society but the audience would see how messed up it is on their own. It would've definitely been more dystopian and a more powerful way to show how backwards the society is
@@KicksPregnantWomen Not with the shock collar part but it is similar because America is supposed to be 'perfect' but it really ain't. There's still a lot of diversity between races, sexuality, and religions.
"The whole plot revolved around them taking off their tame collars. In the story, it just...didnt have a place." Dude you can hear the sadness when he says that. I'd much prefer the collar version of this movie. Nick would have made a much better protagonist
I actually wish they kept this like, just seeing THIS unfinished, idea, basically, felt like i watched an entire movie itself, like, wtf disney. I loved this so so so much
The only problem was that they were focusing on Nick too much. The main character was Judy. That's what the whole movie is about: Judy Hopps achieving her dreams even though others say otherwise.
@@Bella-pd6wx No they are both main characters. It was mentioned in the beginning that at first they wanted to focus the story with Nick as the main character, but later scrapped the idea as that wouldn't work with the optimistic perspective.
Jirapat Thaenphromrat yes, I know they’re both main characters. In an interview, they were saying it wouldn’t work for this because it focused too much on Nick
If I made this a prequel, I would make it about Nicks father and how Wild Times taught prey animals that shock collars were not necessary any more. At least that's how it would fit.
Heck yea man. Though he’s not really the best fox character sadly. Not that I don’t like Nick, he’s a great character but personally my favorite Fox character is and will always be Fantastic Mr Fox. That movie was an underrated masterpiece
They didn't 'cut' it persay as it was never in the movie in the first place - they were still storyboarding everything. There was probably a dozen other storyboards for completely different plots before this one.
The concept of the tame collar really drives in the message of oppression more. Maybe in a sequel, we could have nick and judy visit another country where the discrimination against predators are even worse and this is where we would see the usage of the tame collar. Not only are we able to bring back the concept of the tame collar, but now we can also put in parallels to how discrimination varies in different degrees across the world.
@@FoxGoesSquee you sound like an asshole. just calling people CHILD like that. if the only thing you have over another person is that you’re older than them, that’s a pretty lame thing to brag about. like wow you were born earlier. IF you actually were! one of the most narcissistic things you can say, since it shows that you insist on taking pride in something beyond your control. that you’re happy to insult another person for being born later. i’m not even kidding it reveals a lot about your character.
I love the Zootopia that we ended up getting, but... I would be lying if I said I didn't wish we could see this version. It's such an interesting concept, I have to wonder what it would've been like as a full movie...
They said the collars wouldn’t really fit in the story but I say it would make the story better, giving a better reason than just ettiquite for the carnivores behavior
I feel with the shock collars it did make me dislike that world, but with that just made Wild Times more rewarding to see the predators taking off their collars and not worrying about being emotional and just seeing the happiness on their faces and when a mother is removing the collars on her children is just so heart warming and Nick's con moves are what to thank for it!
There was actually a scene where judy and nick are sneaking through a birthday party where a baby polar bear gets his collar, and he thinks it's a big celebration because it means he's a big bear now, so they clip it on and he's excitedly laughing and being an excited CHILD, and his father is BEGGING him to calm down, but it's too late, he's given a harsh zap, the room goes quiet and the cub breaks down into tears and runs to his dad for protection
@@TalesOfOriait's been three months, but if I remember correctly, I once saw it in one of three parts talking about this original plot on a channel called Davvid
Oh yeah I’ve seen that. Also worth noting that the little bear, Morris, his father, Koslov, wasn’t happy to put the collar on and hesitated before fastening it. Koslov’s collar went yellow as he was hesitating, and Morris asked if he was ok. Koslov said he’s just happy for the lil bear. When Morris got shocked, Judy’s smile disappeared and Nick’s collar went yellow.
Or maybe in the sequel, the mayor of zootopia implements the shock cloar, which every predator has to wear. So that if they get too aggressive, they get shocked rather than a medicine because he says, it's too expensive or something something, nick makes the wild park, and after some time, Judy hopps becomes suspicious about nicks relaxed behavior, so she secretly follows him and discovers the park, and when the predators find out, they become panicked and starts running and come out to find the police waiting for them, nick gets arrested, judy tries to help him escape, they go in court, the mayor stops the implements of the collar, nick makes the park from secret to puplic park.
The shock collar made the message even more powerful. I can see it was a little too risky to implement for Disney. But it added a dark, beautiful twist from what I've seen.
Dude this is such an amazing idea. I really REALLY hope they can find a way to bring this back whether it's in a different movie or a zootopia sequel. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll work in a sequel but I really wish I could see it with the characters I already know, especially Nick.
Anabelle Ferreira it's not. It helped building the current zootopia, it was a step in the creation process, they learnt and experimented from it and that led them to what the film is today.
I hope they make a prequel with this idea. It would retroactively give Nick even more reason to be as down/negative as he was in Zootopia with such a Wild Times ending up getting busted. But I wonder what the happy end would then be.
@@splitframe well...the happy end could maybe be that the major would be the lion we know now, who would fix the policy so noone would have collars. So like at least something. This whole concept could be like when the major was a prey, so he had all the predators have collars. Half way through, the one chubby cheetah guy (forgot his name) would maybe want badly to become a policeman, still helping out Nick a bit he would know about the Wild Times, which the previous prey major would offer him his job for. He knew that there was something for the predators, but didn't know where. That's when the bust down happens. The cheetah friend however doesn't become a policeman and gets arrested along with Nick and those who were attending at the Wild Times. And the happy end could be the coming of the new major. Like when the predators didn't have any other joy now, they'd maybe be more angry and wild. But, then would come our dreamy lion major, young at that time, who would want to become the major. There could start something. Like that he would want Nick's help for he had the idea of Wild Times. Then would start their journey of voting and getting their votes from the predators but preys as well and all! Then could come our happy end of the new major coming...though the loss of Wild Times would be still very sad...but the collars would be removed, so that would be a big positive and a way to the Zootopia we know now
Oh yeah, they did mention in Zootopia that mayor Lionheart was only elected recently and that his election was very progressive. Wild Times getting taken down in favour of the collars being removed and Lionheart becoming mayor would be a great transition.
I saw other people saying they should release the initial plot as a comic of what could have been. I totally support this as the plot is awesome and can stand on its own two feet 👌🏻 I'd buy it.
It's so sad, how all these animators are really excited about this sequence. Hundreds of animators and artists worked on this idea, polishing it, thinking up clever ideas for it, creating beautiful artwork for it.. And then the whole thing was removed entirely, not because the idea was bad, but because another part of the movie changed and made the idea invalid. How disappointing that must be. I really hope they bring this back in Zootopia 2 somehow!
Like maybe an alternative universe or something that they discover. They did that in Cinderella, so it's not out of Disney's capabilities. Of course, they would need a believable way of doing it. I'm imagining something Back to the Future style where a suspect accidentally (or purposefully, I saw a comic where Bellwether does something like this) screws something up and it changes the future. I lost the name of the comic I mentioned earlier where Bellwether does this, but she kills a child Judy, so it's definitely a lot darker.
Maybe a case Judy and Nick are on leads them to a section of the city that's run down and abandoned. Nick suddenly wants them to go anywhere else but there. Judy argues that they're here for the case and proceeds to a warehouse that's dilapidated. She looks up and sees a sign that says Wilde Times. Turning to her partner, she sees him looking despondent and asks if this was one of his old cons back in the day. Nick gets a serious look on his face, almost angry and explains that Wilde Times was his father's dream, what it was about, and how in the end its shutting down was a factor in why his father was no longer around. This would play a key factor, bigger than the muzzle incident, in Nick's attitude and decision to become a con-mammal from when Judy first met him. (Note in the first movie we see Mrs. Wilde but no Mr. Wilde). Just a little character background/ world building that I thought up on the spot.
i hope they make a sequel based on this idea though and just use a work around on the idea so like Nick eventually quits the Police Force and does his own thing / dream cos essentially being a cop was Judys dream not nicks
I absolutely love this idea. So much thought and energy went into this and it just seems like a creative idea. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore the version of zootopia that we got, but I think this could have been amazing to watch to. I think they should make this a mini movie. In how to train your dragon, they have a few short stories and I think Disney should do something like that with this idea. This should be a flashback to nick’s life before they got a predator as a president and before Judy came along. Just an idea.
I wish they kept the original version, I like this darker version...and most important of all, Disney could have open a wildetimes section in Disneyland and I will pay all my money to go thereeeeee
Predator attends collage Predator is a successful student Predator is praised by piers and teachers Predator gets diploma Predator: WOOHOO! THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY- *SHOCK*
There was actually a sequence like that planned. Basically Judy and nick were hiding in a room and that room was being used for a kids birthday party. The kid turned old enough to get his shock collar. His dad puts the collar on (somberly) with a half smile tell the kid he is a man now. The kid gets really really happy and than *SHOCK*. The kid looks up to his dad with tears in his eyes and they hug.
The collar prejudice thing had a lot of potential. I actually had a sort of fanfiction for awhile in my mind of a story where Nick and Judy had been promoted to detectives, and Zootropolis was reaching out with diplomatic relations to other territories and cities around the world, and during the story one of these otherTerritories/countries were having a very hard criminal problem and to help relations Zootropolis would send two of their best detectors to help a.k.a. Nick and Judy, and when they got there they noticed that the city was very prejudiced with all the predators having been collared.

I honestly could give a fudge of who someone looks like or what gender they are as long as they have a strong character and good acting in a movie or tv show. So I do this this zootopia is a great alternative idea. Maybe a different reality in the zoo universe which would be cool to see
@@arthurgrenaderov4476 instead of judging it from how it looks, try to focus on the story. The character development, feeling and intensity of the show was an absolute marvel to behold.
Can you imagine how damn DARK this would have been, tho? This is like if Nick's muzzle story took a turn for the worst. Although, I do find it intriguing to see how they portrayed the POVs of Judy entering and living in Zootopia compared to alternate Nick entering and living in Zootopia...
I think this would've been a really good story as this plot would reflect on real events. I would really like to see this version animated in the future.
To be honest, the shock collar idea could be possible as a sequel to the first movie. Especially seeing as how the plot was about predators going savage. And because Mayor Lionheart is still in prison (for kidnapping the victims) his replacement could have enforced this new law.
Man I wish... I just...I can't see it happening. 😕 the way that the story ended was such a closed circle that I dunno how they would get from there to wild times. Unless unless perhaps they picked up the story with Judy and Nick's grandkids? Like maybe Judy will be telling her grandbunnies about her police days then one of 'em will go "Wait why didn't the polar bear get shocked?" And Judy cringes and it has a flash back to the day the law gets passed and all the protests and nick getting hurt and all of that pain and Judy tells her grandbunnies "well...they didn't have a collar bun. They weren't a law when I was a cop" and the baby bunnies are all in shock like "what?! Predators didn't wear collars back then? How did you survive." And Judy is just like woah woah! Predators are not dangerous buns who told you that? All the little bunnies look ashamed and say that they heard it from their friends at school. A Judy is just like nah uh everybody in the car and she takes them to meet nick and he tells them all about the collars and how horrible they are and gets shocked in the process and the bunnies get inspired and make friends w/ Nick's granddaughter and they go protest the collars at city hall and raise a big fuss and the movie ends w/ the Predators being freed and the herbivores slowly apologizing and letting go of their fear. Dunno just had a thought and ran with it.
They going to forced a reelection and zootopia found out that it was cause by a drug which they would immediately just ban the use and make it a criminal offense to produce or even hold such weapon
I feel like this concept would work better as a Prequel rather then sequel because it would show and explain how predators where practically persecuted into becoming model citizens leading to the collars no longer being needed in the movie we got, and offer some contrast to why pray animals still hold onto their prejudice and fear of them reverting to their wild states, and Nicks amusement park could just be something that flopped after collars were banned and that's why we see him running small time cons and on hard times in the main film when Judy first meets him
I’m actually really glad they ditched the collars. I think the allegory works a lot better when the prejudice against predators isn’t immediately obvious. Plus, the final version allows for the tension to exist not just between predators and prey, but all species. It seems that in the original draft, Judy was just a straight laced cop who slowly started to realize how bad the preds have it. Her whole story seems to be an invention of the decision to get rid of the collars and give her a larger role.
The problem is that it made the story much less interesting, and just became "racism bad" rather than a new idea for a dystopia. The movie we got didn't go that deep into whatever ideas they had left because they just cut the movie in half and the writers had to figure out how to fill in the gaps.
@@TrickyRover - the Wild Times version of Zootopia could _also_ be boiled down to “racism bad.” Both stories have their pros and cons. But, ultimately, they’re different stories with a similar foundation. There’s no real point in arguing whether or not one’s better than the other.
@@demosthenes995 I've seen it plenty of times. Wild Times had more running themes when Zootopia's POV is Judy being a hypocrite and finally finding out as a cop for the first time that maybe predators didn't have it so great, and all of its plot points were done better in Wild Times.
@@KlutzyNinjaKitty There is actually a real point in debating, so we can learn from these two movies and make better ones in the future and not repeat our mistakes. Wild Times had crazy potential that was tossed away, Zootopia had filler that needn't exist and it was barely a dystopia.
@@TrickyRover why do you insist on the dystopia point, it's not supposed to be viewed that way. Zootopia is supposed to look like an utopia, and imo the tame collars is way too on the nose with it's moral lesson. I like how in the final version we follow judy's pov thinking that the city is like the best place on earth and slowly realizing it's flaws. In this version, while interesting, starts fucking depressing man

The movie we got was not a bad movie, but the movie we could have got had a very good story to tell and clearly had a lot of thought, care, attention and love poured into just its conception. I hope it's able to be used sometime in the future. I don't care if its a new universe unrelated to Zootopia or a time in Zootopia's early years but every time I sit and watch videos like this, I'm convinced it would be a great movie. Take all the connections to our own lives and world and put them aside, it's just a really good story.
Could have been about Judy stumbling upon Wild Times and immediately wanting to shut it down but Nick convinces her it's a good thing, and together they try to eventually integrate it into normal society or something.
I really like how they put so much effort into making all the rides seem realistic, if these scenes existed we would probably not even see the details of how everything work.
I mean it wouldnt make sense the only reason half of the stuff happens is because of the shock collars which dont exist in our zootopia with Judy and everything
I think this would have been a better way to start the series and have Judy's story be the sequel. This helps to set the tone of the world that they are in and after everything Predators would be able to live without collars BUT since this place was open for so long there is still a stigma about Predators and then that leads into Zootopia's story that we got.
And it can always be a prequel... The story could start with Nick and Judy chatting about in their break time which leads to nick telling a story about how the world is like in the past for predators which will lead to this story... But these form of storytelling always made me feel claustrophobic, so it'll be better if it's told in a different way, but yeah... It could be a prequel.... Maybe....
maybe if they had a new continuous storyline as an aftermath of the first and implemented this whole concept so it's narrowed down to like max 20 minute running time of flashbacks and rest is current (or even someplace that isn't zootopia that's "backwards" is visited for a little bit, i mean they spent a decent portion out of it in the first anyway). @@Zyntherion2202
My biggest question yet still remains unanswered. *WHERE ARE ALL THE BIRDS AT?!?!* Edit: Even the movie "Sing" has birds in it. There's no theory! Birds, reptiles, amphibians, and aquatics have rights too! Edit 2: And I do concur with the idea that invertebrates are a source of food, as it is very unlikely for such organisms to accustom to technology.
Hmmm, I was thinking the same thing. I figured that it is just one city in a world run by animals, so maybe they just don't like to live city life, for some reason. They could all just be chillin in different parts of the world...maybe?
Can we all appreciate how much an an entrepreneur Nick is. To be able to find the money you want and need in order to start a business that you built with your bare hands. It's honestly an inspiration for anyone looking to make it big themselves.
Well I wouldnt say nothing, most movies work very hard on stuff and scrap it later but it all leads to develop great films. I can agree, It is kinda weird tho
They put in so much pre-production and even some later stages of production. They're so hype talking about this concept too. Let them finish this iteration of the movie, I'll watch the heck out of it. The whole explanation of the theme park is so awesome. Kids could have handle the collars. We loved Avatar the last Airbender and that had straight up skeletons and g*nocide
Same. But it would've been cool if Nick said to Judy in the film(maybe towards the end) that he had Wild times as a crazy idea he had when he was young or something like that.
idrk, but I think they were afraid it wouldn't really fit to children to see that kind of cruelty on-screen... it's sad, because it was actually an amazing plot.
what @cae pow said, i believe i read somewhere that the test audience (pixar and disney tend to help each other out) thought this version of the movie was too dark for children. so they had to change the whole thing and make it a little less cruel/more child friendly. they made judy the protagonist because she radiated more positivity contrary to nick's cynical/pessimistic character. if i remember correctly judy wasn't that optimistic in the first version either.
@AiSEL IRAl wtf, no. The idea was against racism. Their were female predatory animals in this too. The reason it was scarped was a mix of it being “too dark” for kids, and them being worried about the backlash with the racism. So zootopia down played the racism and made Judy the main because she’s more positive and sees the world in a good way.
Disney would never take a risk with this dark of a story now. I could totally see this having been a movie back in the 90s when all dogs go to heaven was made. RIP to the better movie we never got
It should come back in a sequel, but in a different corrupt city where predators are forced to wear tame collars, and lot of other corrupt things, and Nick/Judy duo find out, and want to fix that city with something like Wild Times
While I don't think that this plot would work in a zootopia sequel, I do think that it could work maybe as a short film that comes with the DVD or maybe a graphic novel.
Honestly, I would've been happy with this. It isn't the movie we all grew up with when we were kids, but it would've sent a message that I think would've been nice to seen to an adults or even older persons eyes.
Not gonna lie, although I liked the idea this one, I prefer the one they used. Why? Because it simply shows a predator and prey getting along and working together . Nick and Judy's relationship was actually normal and they eventually became partners at the end.... But I'm so up for this version!!
With a longer movie, they could have done both. Instead of the collars always having been there, they could put the collars on them after the sheep becomes mayor. Then that period of the movie, before Judy solves everything, lasts a few years instead of however long it lasts currently.
I’m genuinely pissed knowing that there could’ve been an amazing better version of this but Disney cancelled it because it was too “dark” or “depressing.” The final result is good and all but this one is way better. Disney has shown stereotypes, racism and so much more but when it comes to something emotional, they’re like put that down. Encanto movie creators literally had to fight Disney just so Luisa could have muscles and not a body like Isabela. I like this version more than a sheep shooting blueberries at predators.
They say that Judy and Nick are around 20 years old, and when they meet he's still conning people and nobody is wearing collars. They wouldn't be able to easily tie the stories together without a completely different world.
comments: This story is better Meanwhile, in alternate timeline where this one be the movie and the one we see don't Alternate comments: that one is better
in my perspective, if Wild Times was released instead of Zootopia people would definitely pick on it and say "yuck has Disney gone real furry" or something like that. One thing that's made Zootopia untouchable from picking on is because of Nick Wilde's characteristic. Zootopia was much, much better and just because Wild Times was interesting doesn't make it better than what people got.
@@pleasemyytcommentsaredumb.8189 ...What? Zootopia has already been picked on for being furry, not that it has stopped Disney from making furry films in the past (Robin Hood was made in 1973 for crying out loud). They just got rid of a really interesting plot and some really good scenes. The Zootopia we got was really good, but it could've been much better. Disney is just too afraid of taking these kinds of risks nowadays which is a shame because the potential is just... crazy.
@@pleasemyytcommentsaredumb.8189 ...Because collar kinks? The Zootopia we got doesn't have a bad plot, it just doesn't have as much potential. The Wild Times plot actually fits in with the anthropomorphized animals theme even more, but now they just took the first part out and made a furry film for the sake of it rather than take on a unique idea that we're now never going to see. Disney making furry films is nothing new, but actually going through with anything like Wild Times is, and it's not like they ditched it for the reasons you mentioned. They just don't go with anything dark like Bambi anymore. Wild Times would've gotten more attention for all the right reasons than Zootopia did for the wrong ones. I have nothing against furries. I like anthros, I just wish we got Wild Times instead because it sounds so perfect, at least to me. It would probably make it into the number 1 spot for me if it DID get made.
I can see why Disney might not have went with the shock collar idea! Buttt I would totally love to see a movie with wild times in it, even if the collars aren’t in it. Maybe it would be a sequel to Zootopia where Nick and Judy work together to try and solve where all the big predators are going or something.. idk but wild times is a neat idea!
Like, instead of nick making Wild times, ITS HIS DAD THAT MAKES IT! BECAUSE WE NEVER GOT TOO SEE HIS DAD IN THE MOVIE! (Remembers that he is responding to a 2 month old comment)
I think that the closest that we got to this was the "Zistopia" webcomic made from storyboard sketches of the shock collar/ Wild Times storyline. Loved this documentary! There's also a clip out there of a "Taming party". Kosolov (the main polar bear guard for Mr Big) was actually the mafia boss, and the "party" was for his son. When predators turn 5, they get their collar. It's heartbreaking to watch, because the kid is excited at first to "join Zootopia and be accepted", but when he gets his first zap, the horrified, betrayed look he gives his father just kills me.
They definitely need to use these concepts for Zootopia 2 in one form or the another. Nick is a really strong character and even if the status of main is changed, the movie will still go strong.
I liked the both sides of the story but I feel like Disney should use this dark side for Zootopia 2. I would like to see if Swinton try to usurp the mayor position, therefore legalizing the tame collars, thus making Nick the protagonist to use his idea for predators to be individuals
yeah like because of animals going savage an actavist group petitioned for all predatos to wear T.A.M.E. collars so, Judy and Nick create Wilde times but the predators there don't trust Judy
I find it fascinating that to design the setting, the team basically designed an entire amusement park. The sheer amount of work that goes into this is astounding. Well, done, and idea should definitely be brought to light in some way. Spinoff, mayhaps?
Id love to see a prequel film with Nick and Finnick running this con. They can even keep the collar idea but maybe age the characters back a few years to show there was a time predators where treated differently, Nick could be responsible for why they don't wear the collars anymore, even clawhauser being in the film would be cool, you got his comic relief presence and the story shows us how he became a cop as a side thing. It basically writes itself
They could still fit it into the original story, just have the plot end where it's unknown that Nick is the one to start that change and is left uncredited, but then everyone else is free now though
They could make a sequel out of this dropped plot. What I recommend is that instead of shock collars, there could be a plot point about everyone falling under observation by the government and being required to wear collars with their ID showing at all times. On top of that, everyone's activities are being regulated and monitored and people are afraid to do anything exciting anymore. People feel unsafe and oppressed because they feel like they are permanently being watched by this omnipotent, tyranical force, so they go to "Wild Times" to escape this feeling of paranoia and oppression. They could restrict this idea to predators or they can include prey as well. Beavers and Hippos would probably enjoy the Bite Me game. As the park gets more successful it grows and becomes more technological advanced and is eventually found out and, well, something happens... maybe involve the mob in all of this as one of the major driving antagonistic forces and the fact that the main characters are police officers as a big risk on their part, though law enforcers and government officials could be in on the whole thing which adds another element of danger to being found out.
I'm honestly so disappointed Disney didn't go for this story. Not only does it feel mUch more realistic/fleshed out when it comes to how a society of predator/prey animals would work but the story hits so much harder beCAuSe it's got a darker theme. Not that I don't love the movie as it is ofc, its one of my favorite films but nonetheless there was a lot of potential for a deeper story that we totally missed out on bc Disney either thinks kids aren't capable of handling it or they think their parents will be too uptight because THEY think kids aren't capable of handling it, therefore not making as much money (its probably both). I rlly hope they allow for themes like this to slip into the next movie!
Blue Pearl i wouldn't have minded if it was as dark as it would've been. The kids probably wouldn't have realized how dark it was, i mean, I watched chicken run when i was around 4-6 years old.
