The NCR Rangers from Fallout are some of the most iconic figures in the franchise. But did you know that the Rangers are real? Today, we'll be going over the inspirations behind Fallout's New California Republic Rangers and Desert Rangers. These legendary factions draw their roots from the pages of history and the untamed frontier of the American Southwest. From the Wild West to the post-apocalyptic wasteland, the story of Rangers is one of justice, honour, and the pursuit of peace.

I think it’s badass how rangers aren’t even cybernetically enhanced or mutated, and stick to plain old ballistic weapons, yet are some of the most feared people in the series

Well some (even tho not seen) were ghouls and super mutants (western super mutants had intelligence just in case you didn’t know which you probably did)

@@Medix_TRKyou can still find the Ghoul Rangers at once of locations, fun to hear the classic NCR dialogue from a ghoul

For me it’s the elite riot version. F3’s stealth armour is the close second.

I honestly think the elite riot gear is cooler than the remnant power armor but to be fair I got into fallout when 3 and new Vegas came out so maybe I just don't have the same love for power armor as I do for the ncr riot gear look

The real Texas Rangers were also instrumental in ending Bonnie and Clyde’s crime spree. Frank Hamer and Maney Gault, although retired from the rangers at the time, led the team that stopped the duo. Hamer also fought the KKK back in the 1920’s and is still considered to be one of the greatest lawmen to have ever lived, among the likes of Wyatt Earp.

I'm a power armor purist to be sure.... but when it comes to New Vegas... I take the Ranger Armor everytime! Also... when I play Wasteland 3 I can't help but model my rangers as closely as possible to the NCR way of thinking!

Popped up on one game (not counting creation club dlc) and has forever been one of the most iconic sets of armor in fallout. Just the way I like it Real talk , I love the ranger armor , specially the courier's. It's such a badass kit. Got the trench coat of a gun slinger to keep the elements away , armor to you know not die , the gas mask for the elements again , the helmet so brains don't fall out, and good underclothes for wandering the wastes. Will always be my favourite set of armor in pretty much any game , it just looks satisfying honestly. Plus the lore of all the different sets you can get and even just the ranger lore itself is very cool , pretty much just the gunslinger myth turned into a whole faction.

The California Rangers were also a real life law enforcement agency that existed for a much shorter time than the Arizona and Texas rangers. The California rangers were created in 1853 to kill or capture the outlaw gang known as the Five Joaquins. The California rangers were disbanded that same year after they found the Five Joaquins.

The heritage of Rangers in America goes even further back to Roger's Rangers in the French and Indian War. Check them out, there's probably enough in their story for another video.

Something I'll add onto the History of the Texas Rangers which isn't really talked about nowadays and Id say most people dont know about is a time period known as La Matanza or The Massacre. Where from 1910 to 1920 the Texas Rangers essentially launched a terror campaign against Mexican Americans. During the Mexican Revolution sometimes rebels and bandits would cross the border to raid into Texas and the Rangers were sent in however they would attack Mexican Americans who had nothing to do with the raids. One of them being the Porvenir Massacre. It's estimated that around 300 people died and dozens of them were lynched by the Rangers and their local allies in that time period. Afterwards they'd not report the events, cover up the evidence, and deny their crimes. So I get more of the Bittersprings and Legion vibes from the Texas Rangers essentially in the final iteration of the western frontier

They have a long gruesome history of “combating” several Native American tribes as well as the Mexicans and general gunslingers/criminals. Not all good, much bloody and despite the romanticized spin put upon them, much dishonorable and borderline at times not much better then the marauding gunslingers and general criminals in the same regions.
@trueakuma777

Yeah, I've heard that too, also heard that they made a point of terrorizing African Americans during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.

Texas rangers have a violent but interesting history. And personally I find their story fascinating. The Texas rangers began as a task force to protect Texan communities from outlaws, gangs, and Native American raiding parties. Because the US military and law enforcement was spread thin, rangers would fill the gaps between civilian And military. They were extremely skilled in tracking, bushcraft, gun and knife fighting. And later grew in numbers. The rangers were known for being extremely effective in combat and law enforcement, but also sometimes very brutal and seemed more like vigilantes. They were the special forces of the Wild West. They were so effective at crime suppression and fighting that some Mexicans called them “Los tejanos diablos” meaning “the devil Texans”. Not everything was good though, some rangers partook in many crimes and scandals, such as the “la matanza” were they slaughtered many innocent Mexicans. They also Fought brutally against the Comanche. Them, along with the Tonkawa Tribe (a historic enemy of the Comanche) went on the offensive and attacked Comanche territory. Despite all the violence, they proved themselves to be experts at crime fighting. They tracked down thieves, rapists, gangs, robbers and murderers etc. and quickly gained a reputation of fear and respect. This reputation was so notable that in WW2, when army rangers invaded Germany. Germans were terrified because they thought they were fighting against Texas rangers, German officials reassured them that the Americans were “only” army rangers. Some rangers were lawful men who protected settlements from gangs, while others were vigilantes who sometimes executed thieves without a trial. During the 1910s they were investigated for many crimes against Mexicans at the border. Afterwards they disbanded. During the late 20’s they reformed, with a focus on professionalism and were more involved with investigations and trials. Rangers today still have a reputation for being Tough, and reliable. Many Texans rely on them more than the police. Modern rangers wear cowboy hats and boots, white or tan shirts, and black ties. During the 30’s, a famous ranger named Frank Hamer stopped Bonnie and Clyde’s crime streak. He also fought the KKK and saved at least 15 people from lyche mobs. The rangers have a checkered past. Though there are many dark moments in their history. They also kept settlers safe from crime, and had some heroic acts as well. They prevented the assassination of William Taft and Porfirio Diaz (the former presidents of U.S and Mexico) and they put an end to many infamous criminals such as John Wesley Hardin, Sam Brass, and Bonnie & Clyde. Back in the Old west things were a lot more violent, it was more eye for eye, tooth for tooth. If someone attacked you, your only option was usually to fight back. The rangers were a good example of Lawful Neutral. And as violent as they were, it made Texas more safe and helped bring civilization to the west. Maybe the level of strict law enforcement needed. For some towns a ranger was all that stood between you and a raiding party. Despite all their ups and down I find their story fascinating. As well as the Arizona rangers, who also have a unique history.
