“ON” is about the strength of character that can help overcome trials. If you look into their history, BTS has had to endure allot from haters and industry hacks etc to finally free themselves from negativity to reach their destiny as the legends they are! The MV is a visual representation of resilience after strife...like a post apocalyptic new world with references to maze runner, lord of the rings, hunger games, game of thrones, lord of the flies, Noah’s Ark, birdbox, pride rock from the Lion King. It felt like we were in Genesis 19 and District 13. There are allot of biblical references too, the little drummer boy, Noah’s ark, the dove that symbolizes peace etc. The trumpets in the interlude reminds of the Book of Revelation when 7 trumpets are sounded by 7 angels right before the Apocalypse. Jungkook is the one that hits the high note at the bridge and he could possibly represents the dove that was imprisoned in the cages since he’s bound and ran away from the prison. The dove and also his hands are set free when he sang. BTS kind of leaves their MV’s up for interpretation. There are always ALLOT of Easter eggs in BTS’ MV’s. Ok ARMY, who recommended one of the most metaphorically complex MV’s for his first BTS video? 😂😂😂. @Newova - there’s a reaction by a British Priest who explains all the biblical symbolism here - it’s like a fight between good and evil. The thorns, the drums, the wall, the ark, the dove, the conch shell, the blindfold, and a ton of other crap are symbols. I can’t remember it all. You were right - the one you noticed was Suga/Agust D. He didn’t have as many lines in this one but there are other songs where he features more prominently. Depends on the type of song - BTS does a variety of genres. The one you thought had a pretty voice was Jungkook - he was voted best main vocalist in KPOP a few days ago. He’s able to sing in a very stable voice WHILE dancing. A multi-talented man. He also sang his high part from this song on James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke and it literally sounded just as good sitting in a vehicle as it does in the music video. One of the things that sets BTS apart from other groups is that every single member is honestly talented enough to go solo and be successful on their own. There are zero weak links. RM (the leader) has 2 mixtapes out and also produces, he’s got a ton of collaborations with western artists (Wale, Lil Nas X, Fallout Boy), an IQ of 148, and some of the most forward-thinking and thought-provoking lyrics in kpop. He gets a lot of recognition for being able to effortlessly switch his rap into different flows and is one of the best rappers in all of South Korea. J-Hope has a mixtape out (not to mention he’s the best dancer in KPOP) and is a talented producer. He’s got the highest net worth of any of the members (at last count, though it’s hard to say given that they’re always making more money) and did an INCREDIBLY popular collaboration with Becky G for a remix of ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ which set off a viral Tiktok challenge. The 4 vocalists have a number of solo songs too. One of the members (V) is also an actor (in the drama Hwarang) and was voted handsomest man in the world a few weeks ago. V is often the one most brands want front and center when promoting their products - pretty much anything V wears or uses sells out within a few days, even when he isn’t promoting it. He recently broke a record for having the most #1s on the iTunes Top Song Chart of any Asian artist ever (for his song Sweet Night which went #1 in 88 countries). Jungkook is just good at everything (singing, dancing, rapping, sports, drawing/painting, etc). He’s working on his own mixtape right now and has the same problem as V - everything he uses sells out (we are literally talking stuff like using a particular type of fabric softener or drinking a specific type of wine). He’s been on a few variety shows and his solos songs are popular. He broke a record last month - fastest Twitter video to reach 1 million views OF ALL TIME - the video was 30 seconds of him singing casually in his bedroom. He’s the only person in the world who has 4 tweets with over 2 million likes on Twitter (my bad, there’s one other person (only one) with as many likes - former president Barack Obama. That’s it). "I'm confused." That's every ARMY ever after watching a BTS MV hahaha. It's nobody's fault, BTS are extremely creative and they have a strong message that they always try to tell through their music; and ARMY loves finding easter eggs and theorizing about the storylines so it's become this BTS/ARMY thing now. If you're interested, some of the best explanation videos are from xCELESTE, Bookish Theories, and DKDKTV. They each focus on different things/dissect the MVs from different perspectives, so watching them all kinda gives you a more complete picture. This exchange of ideas is really the backbone of this community, it's great. You're NOT dumb, don't worry about not getting it the first time, just enjoy the music and have fun!!! :))

BTS is probably one of the few artists that have numerous explaination videos to almost every MV made by fans. That is because they use a lot of art, literature, history, social and philosophy references and inspirations. They are also not afraid to speak about real problems and situations in their lyrics. That is way many ARMYs are highlighting the importance of reading the lyrics. A lot of MVs are part of the storyline which was created to portray the struggles and hardships of the youth. Some of the songs that need explaination videos are Spring Day, UGH!, Beapsae, Black Swan and Fake Love. If you like to know more about the boys, i would highly recommend the videos from xCeleste and DKDKTV for good information explaination videos. I really loved your reaction and hope you would have fun exploring this band. Fans love those guys not only for their talents but also for their personalities and dedication. My method is: watch the MV once without captions to pay attention to the video, then watch it a second time to pay attention to the captions and lyrics. Lol some people are embarrassed about the adorable representative MCs for Youth and think it’s cringe. It’s kinda hard to explain why BTS fans are ARMY but I will try: Because bts picked their name so they could be “bulletproof” against prejudice and criticisms that rain down like bullets against youth, and their fans are an ARMY that defend them from haters and spread their message against prejudice as well. Some think it’s cringy and some people are like really into living the ARMY stan life and take it seriously to always defend bts and spread their positive message despite hate they get. I’m sure there are a bunch of videos on RU-vid about all the stuff that happened to BTS early in their career. Fans really did have to defend them because they were underdogs in the industry and had so many people trying to sabotage them. A lot of fans are really loyal. MOST fans are really loyal, I should say.

Thus, the Adorable Representative M.C. For Youth or ARMY is a group of people who speak up, “host”, or “represent” a movement that embodies blocking out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations. You not dumb. We watch MV hundreds of times and still sometimes (more like always) need explanation. So you doing what you can by watching MV. I need to watch MV at least 10 to read lyrics properly, cause visuals keep distracting me. And to understand their MV sometimes you even need to read books. I bought and read Hermann Hesse Demian because of BTS Wings era album and MV. Now I'm deep in Carl Yung theory on Human psyche because of their Map of the Soul era. Surprisingly liking BTS takes you to paths you never expected it will lead. We have channels that do explanation videos. TY lord for that.

we really try extra hard to be informative and helpful to introduce bts to people who have previously no knowledge of them. They are a really great musical group and we love when people genuinely try to listen to their music. They stand for a lot of positivity and we try to do the same. They are very versatile and have a huge discography, if you wanna listen to more try their latest“Black swan” music video, it’s a completely different genre and concept from ON. Thanks for listening and being open minded to music in a different language tho, for me was never a problem as I’m from Europe and here we are exposed to a lot of languages but I can understand how it can be a barrier in the US. We along with bts had to “battle” a lot of racism when they first broke out in America back in 2017, but it feels great when people are open to listen

Okay. This will be a long one 😝 But I’m trying to informatively answer your question about ARMY. First you have to start with the name BTS. It stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan. A name long and difficult even for Koreans so has been a abbreviated (and make globally accessible) as BTS ever since their debut in 2013. Bangtan Sonyeondan can be literally translated to Bulletproof Boyscouts. They are often called Bulletproof Boys or Just Bangtan as well. So they are the bulletproof vest that protects ARMY, and ARMY (who started out very small) have grown to size like an army and we fight for BTS. Like it’s a crazy passionate fan base. Back in the day they did have an acronym that ARMY stood for, Adorable Representative MCs for Youth. ...Korean fan names are meant to be sweet and BTS started as mainly hip hop group so we’re Adorable MCs...really I think they just tried really hard to come up with something that spelled out ARMY 😂😂😂 It’s a pretty cringe acronym and it’s basically never brought up or actually used. But that’s why ARMY is always all caps, it’s just a pain to type out A.R.M.Y. Also why plural of ARMY is ARMYs not ARMIES. Bonus facts! BTS logo was a bulletproof vest for years and they often had military themed merch like bomb shaped items and call fanmeets Musters. ...like mustering the ARMY. A few years ago when the updated their logo they also released an alternate meaning of BTS as Beyond the Scene. It was largely to have a simple way to explain their name meaning in english videos as it’s really hard to explain all this in a 5 minute interview in a language that is not your first. No one actually calls them Beyond the Scene and this alternative name has pretty much died out. They will always be our Bangtan Boys. Okay. History lesson complete! So, we all know that there are toxic people everywhere and it is no different in the kpop industry/fandoms. However, I can say from personal experience that the army is one of the most welcoming and warmest group of individuals that I have had the pleasure of getting to know. I'm only 2 years into the fandom myself but from day one these incredible people make you feel as though you are part of a family. Especially if you take part in the social platforms like weverse or vlive. If you are having a bad day, these wonderful people will go out of their way to put a smile on your face. It really feels like an extension of the group since BTS strives for making their fans feel loved and welcomed. I suppose what I'm trying to say, and bring notice to, is that Army.....you guys all rock! BTS has an ongoing storyline running through most of their music videos, so it's almost impossible to be able to fully understand the message of a single mv without having watched all the ones that came out before that. And even then it's hard to tell what it's about until the next one comes out. For ON, even I, someone who's been into BTS since their early days, am confused lol

The general message in my opinion is about resilience and overcoming adversity. All the references to the Bible, Maze Runner, Lion King, Bird Box, etc. I feel reflect that a lot. Those stories include many themes of overcoming suffering. The actual plot is confusing for me though, but those references and the song’s lyrics helped me understand the general theme.

Not everyone one can enjoy music video and read lyrics at same time. I never can the first time! I watch a few times without lyrics first. I recommend at least having them on but just enjoy in whatever way is natural for you. Visually, auditory or lyrics and don’t stress what you miss. Viewers will get over it. Good job at recognizing Suga!! There’s also a pure dance video for this song called “On: Manifesto film” They are...basically also a world class dance crew on top of being singers, rappers, songwriters, and producers

I think you basically got what was going on, it’s essentially about the spirit of perseverance to overcome adversity. There are deeper layers that’s informed by themes running through from other tracks, albums, music videos etc lots of ARMY watch it twice the “first” time, once to focus on the visuals, once to focus the lyrics. The more you watch videos with captions/subtitles the better you get at it, but with a new video I still watch it several times over because just in the visual content alone there’s a lot to see. We don’t expect people to be able to read all the lyrics, we just hope you’ll pick up some of the lyrics and so hopefully pick up a bit more meaning than just the catchy English phrases

Not gonna lie even i have no idea 😂😂 They have an ongoing storyline. But for this one they never clarified if this was an individual video or if was related to older ones or to newer ones in future. I'm kind of waiting for the next title track video to drop. There was a plot because the members were given scripts. They just never explain because the fandom loves theorizing, it keeps them indulged. There are indeed explanation videos but trust me they are very very very complex 😂 most of them are associated with the Carl Jung's psychology concepts of Persona, Shadow & Ego because this what their latest album Map of the Soul:7 is about. Also don't worry it's difficult to read & watch at the same time, so it's ok if you miss some lyrics. That's why we have colour coded lyric videos all over RU-vid. All i can tell you is there are hell alot of movie references, Bible references, like you said Noah's arc, Maze runner, lion king, drummer boy, lord of flies.

Im very proud that you can recognize Suga’s rapstyle. Every member has a very different style and many people tend to mistake all of them despite their different styles. RM as a deep and powerful rap, Suga has an aggressive drunken style kind of rap, Jhope has a very modern yet very oldstyle rap, Jungkook has a powerful and steady voice that never wavers while dancing, Jimin has a high pitch smooth and flexible voice that can fit any mood, V has a voice that can go deeper than the ocean yet higher than the sky, Jin has a voice like honey and a gentle breeze that is always soft on the ear

One fun thing about kpop is that most groups also do choreography/dance practice videos, so you can see the dance you'd see if you were watching live. Most of the MVs, even from less well known groups, are better than what is typically made by Western artists. Being an ARMY is so much more than liking them for their music, or for their looks, etc. An ARMY loves BTS because they are BTS. And when we say love, we don't just say it for the sake of it, we really do love these boys and will protect them whatever way we can. BTS has more than 200+ including solo pieces, solo mixed tapes, covers, unit songs, etc. They have a huge variety of discography and can just chose depending on your genre type. One of the million reasons I love them. They are more than just a Kpop group, they do way more then being idols. They rap, sing, dance, act, write and produce songs, MC, amazing speakers, COMEDIANS (lol) and the best thing is, they show us that they are just humans like us. They are the humblest and most genuine artists I know, you can see how dedicated they are to their fans they would beat themselves up for making the tiniest mistakes in their performances because they want to showcase the best for ARMY which is a bit concerning and sad. I personally won't mind if they make mistakes on stage and I think most armys wont too. They are just like that, they want the best for the fandom. The music they create, its not just for money and fame, they really do want to help people through their music, as you can see in every start of their music videos when the BigHit Logo appears, underneath it would say "Music and Artist for Healing", they have really helped millions of fans and healed us in many different ways. With all this being said, we ARMYs love then people react to them, but please make sure you genuinely like them, not just for likes or views. And dont set a target number of likes so you can react again to their next videos, I don't mean to be rude but its kind of a turn off. Story wise Jungkook said his story in the mv was that he escaped from his town. He was different so they threw him jail. So this is him running away Namjoon: Im assuming Noah’s arc too. But also he often talks about oceans and deserts. Deserts being all the crap they went thru and will go thru. While we ARMY are their ocean. At shows we call it purple ocean. All the light sticks lit up look absolutely beautiful Yoongi: I think those were fighter kids? Can remember Tae: no idea lol but that little girl is supposed to be his sister and he is leading to a better place Hobi: I’m not sure either... I’m assuming he is walking thru the barren lands. Where you plant all the efforts but get no rewards. You can see Jungkook passes out behind him and the bird thinks he is dead Jin: I’m assuming his bird means peace and hope. Hope was killed. But it came back Jimin: I’m assuming it’s a reference to the little drummer boy. In the story the kid goes to visit the nativity but doesn’t have a gift bc he is poor. All he had was his drum. So he played the drum with all his heart. That was the gift he gave. His talent and effort. All subjective. Except for Jungkook cause he told us himself haha But overall they are all metaphors for their struggle to get where they are. How hard they fought. All the hate they got. How they felt. How they fought back. And how hope and dreams are still alive 💜

BTS is a seven member boy group which includes 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. Their music is NOT all about just love between man and woman, which is probably the mos common topic with boybands. They actually talk a lot of important topics in their music, like depression, self harm, they had a campaign lasting for about 3 years named "Love myself" with unicef. And sometimes it's just roasting haters, but these guys are true angels.

ARMY is indeed an acronym! It stands for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth. But then ARMY is also a link to the band’s name BTS. BTS stands for “bangtan sonyeondan” in korean, which literally translated means “bulletproof boy scouts”. So the name ARMY fits that perfectly.

the great thing about bts music videos is that (for the most part) they are wildly up to interpretation. there is rarely ever one correct answer and they do a great job of adding so many tiny details that every time you watch you notice something you didn't notice before. don't worry about trying to understand everything, i've been a fan of them for 4 years and still don't know what the fuck is going on 90% of the time lmao

I guess we should tell you that BTS has an entire storyline that has been running through their albums for years now that takes place in an alternate universe called Bangtan Universe (BU). It's quite engaging. Each album has notes which contribute clues to the story as well as the videos themselves. There has been an entire book produced with a compilation of the story as well as a web series. So basically if you run across a video that seems to be telling a story that you don't get feel free to assume it's part of the story. This mv has several references that I'm sure have already been discussed. Secondly, their is a second video for this song that is really fun with full on choreography, marching band, and dance crew. You should check it out "ON" come prima mv. They also performed this song live at Grand Central station on Jimmy Fallon. Check it out! Thirdly, you should expect BTS videos to have film quality production. They spare no expense when it comes to video production. And don't assume CGI. Much of what they do is live production. And when you got scared I laughed! You can expect random dance breaks from time to time. And don't feel bad about not understanding stuff. You have 7 years, over 300 songs and 12 albums worth of content. Just enjoy and let ARMY fill you in! And reading lyrics and watching videos that practice. I hop e someday BTS wont be just part of your random Wednesday lineup. They create amazing fusion music and are highly talented musicians, dancers, writers, producers, and performers. Peace.

This song come from the map of the soul album. This album is based on "the map of the soul" book from the psychologist Jung. Without getting in to much details ^^, Jung said that the soul is divide in two part : conscious, inconscious (the two worlds in the lyrics). In this two part we found persona (the mask that you wear in front others), ego (your feelings and memories), shadow (the things you hide to protect yourself, you are not necessarily aware of that), anima (your feminine part), animus (your masculine part). To be your true self, you must combine all this parts. Here the lyrics said "gotta go insane to be sane", I think it's because to be yourself you must face your trauma, the things you are ashamed of, your fear and many thing that can compose your shadow. We normaly avoid that so someone who willingly face all this can be see like abnormal or insane. But it's a step you must pass to be you. So for me, the members are facing all that compose their shadows in this song. At the end, they are one step closer to be their true self. ^^ (sorry if there is mistakes, english is not my language)

Bts has a story line that connects in the music videos. The song ON has a storyline but it doesn’t connect with the other music videos. I don’t know if that makes sense😂This music video was heavily based on the Bible. Like the Noah arch and being baptized and so on. Jungkook(a member of Bts, he’s the one that was ruining and his hands were tied) he said he was escaping from a place in the video. Another reference to the Bible in the music video was that the bird was in a cage and was dead but came back to life later on. The bird represents peace also there was a little blond girl in the music video and she was blind folded. That is another reference to “blinding/hiding the bad things from the innocents”. It’s seen in a lot of religions where it basically says the innocent are blind in a way. So those are some religious references in the Music video.

I really enjoy watching people react to bts for the first time and it's happening a lot recently thanks to Suga's new Agust D's release and you are one of the more genuine and enjoyable channels. You have no idea how reacting to bts effects a channel, the amount of love and support that will flood in from ARMY will blow your mind and you deserve all of it for a great video!

BTS fandom are some of the nicest people and there is soooo much diversity within the fandom. I think it’s because BTS try to get fans to think more and be accepting they put out positive energy and so their fans are positive. (Except when trying to buy concert tickets that’s the hunger games lol) 😂😂😂 Glad your interested in getting to know more about these 7 talented amazing guys. Being open minded enough to try and introduce a new culture and language is already a great step to broaden your horizons. Great reaction I truly enjoyed the video.

Don't worry abt not catching everything the 1st time. We watch everything from/abt BTS more than once even being a full blown veteran Army. What we recommend is to watch/listen to the MV one time thru & go back a 2nd time to read the lyrics & comment on anything u want. No need to feel bad or apologize so Feel free to pause & rewind as much as u need to. We prefer u to pause the video any time u need to say something than to talk over the video.
