As Gorilla said in a interview during world's: Something all those teams have in common is that they are all champions in their regions. They know how to win. If their opponents underestimate them, they will win, like any other team at world's would.
The Wildcards have been some of the most entertaining teams to watch at Worlds for a long time. Albus Nox and Gigabyte Marines jump straight to mind. Forget the big teams, I wanna watch the wildcards.
This video was made in a bit of a rush to get out before Play-Ins of Worlds 2020 started so there's a few things I left out. I hope you guys still enjoyed the video though and are looking forward to more. I'm working really hard to bring more quality content to you. Also there were 2 notable errors: -I swapped the seeding for the 2015 Worlds group. CLG was the #1 NA seed and KOO was the #2 KR seed. -J-Teams loss at the end DID prevent a three-way tiebreaker that would have given them a chance to get out of groups. So that loss did mean a lot and the streak extends from 2014-2019
@@TooTechnicalDev No, South East Asia was given it's own servers back in ~2010 when Riot licensed the game to Garena. Garena created 5 servers that localized the game for each region in SEA. The Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau server (LMS) was competitive enough that they were given a seed directly into the bracket (bypassing groups) at season 2 worlds.
You’re so underrated in the League RU-vid community man. I hope you continue to make these type of videos. I really enjoyed this one, the ANX run in 2016 still gives me chills.
As always, the pacing of this video is absolutely perfect, even with the information about how the other regions evolved and the (not so) subtle minor spoilers that foreshadow the results you manage to make it hype. Every documentary is entertaining, well-informed and brings out emotions in some way.
Editing is on point as always. As soon as the screen starts fading to black and Gbay says something like "or so it seemed..." you KNOW it's gonna get epic. Congrats on one more awesome documentary
Honestly GAM 2017 was just insanity. Their strategies were so creative and it's a shame they didn't get out of groups because they really deserved it over Fnatic. I will never forget the absolute legendary double jungle game to get the early nocturne level 6. That was probably one of the craziest plays I've ever seen in professional league. I mean their jungler Levi actually played for JDG for a split some time later.
Im just here to help the algorithm Edit: you may wanna include "at LoL worlds" in the title for the algorithm Also sad you didnt include the bit at the end of the C9/NJWS game with C9 screaming "THIS IS FOR KABUM!"
Gbay is more focused on making better videos and I think the title is part of it. It does sound better without "at LoL worlds" even if it is not favored by the algorithm.
@Gbay99 I still remember when I discover your chanel back in the days of season 3 when I used to main top lane, and watch your videos for the amazing analysis and great tips you gave to improve as a player, so many years later and everything you put out (specially documentaries) have been a most watch at least for me, I guess I wanna say thank your for the great content and I know you went trough phases where you don't know if continuing with something or changing but I will like to say (and I know a lot of people will agree) anything that you actually put the great mind and spirit you have for the game, be a documentary or other type of video, will always be a most watch for a lot of people like me.
24 Seconds ago, I'm absolutely POGGED TO SEE THIS It'll probably cover Albus Nox, one of my favourite teams of all time! Edit: Just finished this documentary, awesome quality as always. Now I'm super hyped for Play-Ins tomorrow!! Let's see who'll make it out!
Boy, Im brazilian, I play since 2013, i actually watched pain lose to gaming gear(the first wildcard that he showed, imagine my sorrow "oh if kami did that" xD) Im so hyped, INTZ its login good this year, a lot of rumors at least.
@@GamePlayMaligno I am so jealous of you, as someone from Argentina the LAS teams always disapoint and beign honest we never have, probably never will be a strong region. Brazil has those moments of pure brighteness that get me so excited but we, can't even get to group stage.
I just want to appreciate Gbay’s editing. The montages of wildcard teams winning could have been a standalone video, but we also got the whole documentary. Thanks for the amazing content Gbay 😁
I was there in San Francisco to watch the 2016 group stages and it was incredible to be there. Great job Gbay. Just watching your video brought back those same chills and excitement I had then. It’s moments like this that stick with you forever and you did a great job of capturing that excitement in your video!
It looks like adding major regions teams to play-ins just lowered a lot the chances for another wildcard crazy story at worlds, it just shows the Riot don't care enough about them
I dont know, I think its way better for competition to have a team that definitely has a chance of doing stuff, as opposed to having a wildcard that maaaaybe will win a game that matters. If wildcards really deserve to play in worlds, they can just win in play-ins and show it.
@@Jans6ever the old format despite having less seeds had a lot more international games for wildcard regions to play and try to develop against other regions, the current one looks more like riot is trying to just get rid of them more faster, for some regions like Brazil, LLA or OPL is like trying to put a baby to ride a bicycle
I don't know if it's just me but i love seeing videos of underdog league teams making a statement. Hope to see something like that in the future. Keep up the good work pal !
I liked how the qualifier worked because Wildcard teams could be the winners of a championship there, since you were only fighting wildcards, unlike nowdays where there is always a major team in your group to crush you.
Dude as an older dude that been following the pro scene since the Go4Lol days, I can't tell you how precious this kind of video is to me. Thank you very much for your work
Another fantastic video Gbay. youre making the best actual CONTENT in the scene right now. edit: meaning anything thats not gameplay or podcasts/talkshows
In Vietnam, we call wild card teams "leg-choppers" (gạt giò), as in our representative's role in the tournament is not to win, but to make as many teams lose as possible.
Hey gbay if you read this I just want you to know how much I love these documentaries you have been making. I'm not invested into the esports scene at all but these videos just make me appreciate it so much!
I have so many memories from season 6 worlds as I just started playing league regularly about a month before, so I had just started to get to know the game, and watching with a friend who gave me a run down of the teams made it that much better. If not for that I probably wouldn't have started watching esports for a long time, if at all. The ANX run and ROX vs SKT series made it such a memorable event for me and now I rewatch the ANX upsets and ROX/SKT series before worlds every year now. Worlds has been the highlight of the year for me ever since and I never count out the wildcards and underdogs after seeing ANX.
At first when i saw how long this video was i was sceptical about watching it but then i remembered some of your other longer videos and they we definitely worth the watch same as this one great job Gbay you make awesome documentaries
This is Latam's year, we are tired of almost winning, Lyon losing 3-2 against AnX in the wildcard tournament and then seeing them succeed, Infinity beating Edward Gaming in groups and losing in a tight series against G2, who reached semi finals, and Isurus losing last year against HKA showing some signs of good play, this year with this group and new blood, I hope it's time for Latam to reach group stage
This was a great Video, I even had to cry because it was so beatiful for me. It's so awesome to see that even though they are underdogs they still try their best and just want to perfom good. Keep up the good work, thanks man!
Good video. Also we don't have to forget that wildcard teams are the champions of their own regions. As you said at the beginning, the organizations are a step behind but they still have what it takes to play on stage in a high level tournament. Let's go R7! #LLA
Critical comment ahead @Gbay99: 1. The timing of this video is really good. I actually thought about passing on watching the play-ins and I'm reconsidering after this video. 2. As usual, really high level content with a lot of effort, very thorough research. Also your narration is really exciting and enjoyable. 3. Something with the pacing of your videos isn't right, at least for me. I've just watched this video on x1.25 speed and it felt much better than pervious videos of yours I've been watching before. And English isn't my first language.
another awesome video, the level of effort and quality is instantly noticeable. I was thinking about other videos idea that could fit your documentary style videos and i had an interesting idea. A video dedicated to the history of the play-in stage, it's kinda funny how teams (specifically in NA) are saying that being the 3rd place team is secretly a blessing as you get more time to play and "practice" for the group stage so much so that it's become a meme but seeing as how it kinda became a trend with C9 making it all the way to semis from play in while all the other NA teams, notably, TSM who were 1st in NA got another disappointing performance not making it out of groups, is it more of a meme or a reality?
Flash Wolves' legacy is one of the most ridiculous I've seeen. Karsa and Maple consistently proved they were able to match and even outplay top worlds teams for several years, and now at 2020 worlds, the ADC, support and the jungler is attending the event 5 years later on seperate teams from LPL, currently considered the strongest region in the world(teamwise). The only one not there is maple, and steak who became a coach. Karsa could potentially become the goat jungler if TES is able to achieve something with this roster, and both Kramer and SwordArt are looking formidable as they always do. Edit: Forgot to mention NL and MMD, the two ADCs became streamers.
Flash wolves were underrated almost every year, and it still saddens me. Maple was actually one of the best midlaners at the tournament in 2015 and 2016 imho (even though he had some inconsistency). I actually had them over c9 in their group, but they just had so much trouble closing out the games the first day, it cost them dearly. Karsa and swordart were world class as well. The others, I wouldn't agree as strongly, but they had their moments as well.
For those that dont know, 2016 worlds is the biggest what if for LLA fans. ANX the wildcard team beat Lyon Gaming 3-2 to get to worlds made it out of groups. This could have have been the one time a latin american team could have gotten out of groups.
