Thank you for the vids. I’ll have to send you a video of my upgrades on my 10’ lifetime yak. Foot petal cable steering, battery under seat. Half moon bay fish machine👍
I like the connections and the kill switch Idea. Just got my 100 ah lithium battery, next is wiring, Pwm, mounting battery under the seat which will help lower the center of gravity. And Lifetime Teton not much room. I’m in Half Moon Bay and fish out of the harbor unfortunately they just canceled salmon season 👎🏻 thanks for the good info.
@@TahoeYakFisher I agree. I ordered my wife and I both 60Amp PWMs a while back, since COVID $ has been a bit tight and the kayak projects got put on hold for now. And I agree... a jumper for a piece of mind if a Chinese electronic fails is a cheap price to pay. Sure beats paddling for an hr or more to get back to the marina or trying to paddle upstream.. which isn't fun!
Very nice, I love this rig! Sounds like you’re waiting on a Dakota Lithium and if that’s the case good luck. I have two setups both with 100ah Tracker Lithiums from Bass Pro and I have spent many 12 hour days of careful use (and breaks) for the past year in many environments. One motor with variable speed and one without. Even without PWM it is very impressive but my other with PWM has had to tow one rig home at the end of the night a couple of times depending on conditions etc. I definitely recommend Tracker Lithium LifePo4 100ah with a PWM and don’t waste 6 mo to a year waiting for a Dakota Lithium or the same amount of time for a warranty claim.
Thanks, that kayak was very fun to build and is a BLAST on the water! I don't, personally, rent kayaks, I work for a company that does... kayaktahoe.com/
This is brilliant. Man, now I can't decide!! I've been looking at the Native Titan and this one. I want the pedal drive but want to add a trolling motor like this. I can't decide!!
The Torqeedo guy, his channel is "The Little Stuff" does a vid where he installs dual steering on this yak... the foot steer for the motor and the hand steer for the pedals, he made a custom rudder that fit the motor mount, I love that idea, I bet it would be relatively easy to make a rudder out of an old trolling motor clamp... I like the idea of pedals as an option but I sold my Hobie Outback as soon as I finished my first motorized kayak!
Thanks for sharing. I'm working on similar setup. Have you had any heat failures with controller sealed in your plastic box? Also looks like you took the motor tilt lock off. Will it kick up when you throw it in reverse? Nice build overall.
No up kick in reverse, my steering cables are below the pivot so I am basically holding it down with my feet. As much as I actually use reverse this is fine compared to how nice the hoist works without the tilt lock to deal with... Please check out my channel, I just built a better PWM than this one, my first. And Thanks!
what’d you use for blocking on the motor mount? i’ve heard it’s too thin to put a motor directly on it but didn’t see those reviews until i ordered it.
I cut the 10awg panel mount wire at 4 inches and soldered the 8awg wire straight to the 4 inch 10awg pigtails. That is a totally acceptable solution, solder makes a minimum resistance connection and you have minimized the resistance to that point so max voltage goes into the PWM.
Ya know, one thing I will say... All the panel mount SAE plugs I found are pretty low quality, the waterproof covers have broken off both plugs. They are cheap materials. I think they are still the best solution for this particular application and the covers breaking off is the only failure to date with at least 60 hours of use... just FYI
I just posted an alternative to the panel mount plugs that only requires one hole in the boat for both leads. In my community section. I will probably do this.
I did remove the motor lock... my steering cables are below the motor pivot so I am basically holding the motor down with the pedals when in reverse... works great, second kayak I have done this way.
