Wildfires burn across Portugal killing several people 

In just one night 1/3 of the country caught fire. This was the summer with least fires in the previous 10years, and in just 2 days it's now the worst year. This was arson, it was organized in a way to make sure firefigthers couldn't fight all fires so they just protect homes and let the forests burn. Next year there will be windmills, lithium mines, wine vineyards and paper trees in all this burned area, this was criminally done for economic reasons.

My heart is breaking for them. We suffered the same out of control fires a few years back here in Oregon. I hope the the rains come and douse the flames. 💔🌧

They imported and planted billions of Eucalyptus Globulus trees and since then Portugal is a tinder box, they call these industrial plantations meant for the paper mills, "the green desert", nothing lives, feeds or grows in them, no biodiversity, just these huge fire bomb monsters waiting to burst up into flames. Tasmanian blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus) native to southeast Australia, has been increasingly used in forestry outside its native range, and is nowadays one of the most important pulpwood species in the world. E. globulus Portugal it has recently become the most widespread tree species. the expansion of eucalypt plantations in the country only occurred since the mid20th century, closely followed by the development of the pulp and paper industries . Portuguese stands are managed in a coppice system, usually with an average cutting cycle of 10-12 years (Soares et al. 2007). Nowadays plantations dominated by eucalypts cover c. 812,000 ha and represent 26 % of the whole forested area in continental Portugal.

I live in Portugal. Its a fact here , that bombeiros , or firemen, are voluntary and only receive pay when there's a fire to fight...... You guessing it yet ? Firemen here have been caught setting fires. No one lives on thin air. Also, the paper industry here is a huge export industry. Consequently they plant Eucalyptus, a very fast growing, non native species from Australasia, known to be one of the most flammable trees in the world, due to its shedding bark strips , full of resin ,along with the other choice of forestry, Pine trees. Rarely any fires in native forest areas.

Arsonists set fires at night its unpredictable

May karma catch these creatures that don't even have the rigjt to be called people that have caused all of this. People usually dislike the rain (wich is sacred). How about now? I live in Portugal and I am appaleld with this tragedy.

Just watching Portuguese News on this. The Police here have caught arsonists that started these fires. It has been very hot and dry, now the wind is picking up

How did this happen? How does this happen? Why haven't they kept a space large enough for forest fires to never endanger people who are NOT in the forest.

My heart is broken.. I grew up with those tragedy and because of many situations it keeps happening.. I think the government forgot Bout what happened in 2017.. I haven't and it still hurts 😢😢
