Cody, the best way to get an accurate reading with Kestrel weather meters is to hang them in the shade of the vegetation your working in for several minutes then read them. They are so sensitive that standing in direct sun, on pavement, or even a gravel driveway will affect the reading. Been a busy fire season here n Northern California also, keep up the good work and stay safe.
Hey Cody, I am a longtime follower of your channel. I live here in the town of Cle Elum WA. Thank you and all your coworkers SO much for leaving your families and coming to protect our little town!!!!
Thanks Cody for bringing us along. My son is deployed on the Norse Peak fire in Washington right now. He talks about all these things you are showing in your videos. It's really great to be able to actually see what he is describing. Keep up the great work and please be safe... all of you.
Thanks so much, Mrs. W. and to you as well. The men and women out on the fire lines could not do what they do without the never ending support of their families. People tend to forget the toll it takes on the families left behind. You guys never get the credit you deserve. Love your channel and the message you share with us all. Keep up the great work, it is appreciated by so many. Just curious, is Jack interested in following in his dads footsteps?
Cody I hope you see this comment, my wife and I were married just across the river from where you're at right now. I have a special love for that area, for those people, and for the work you guys are doing. Thank you so much for all your work, it's been a couple days since you posted this and I've been following all the progress closely. It looks like you guys are really getting some work done, and I hope they can get it all contained. Afterwards, I hope the people of this state start to realize that we are allowing certain individuals to mismanage our forests and that's what leads to issues like these.
Very interesting insight into the hard work you guys are doing to save lives and property. Thank you for all the firefighters risking their lives for the benefit of others. Stay safe and we are praying for you and all of those affected by the fires.
I'm an aspiring wildland firefighter (I just finished S-130 and S-190 and will be doing many prescribed burns this year) so I absolutely love seeing this kind of stuff. Even if it doesn't seem like much, I'm excited to see all the things my instructor has been talking about in play on a fire. Thanks for your work and keep it up!
Cody, would you mind doing a video about how a homeowner could create a defensible space according to what you've learned while being a wildland firefighter? I'm trying to find out more on home sprinkler fire suppression systems and how they're utilized. I haven't seen much covered on the subject except what people do in Australia.
hex0rz1 I believe if you look back in his video list there is a bunch of information that he gave when he was clearing up around his workshop and other outbuilding that describe what you want to know. Sorry I don't know exactly which one, perhaps someone else remembers.
Wayne Essar Oh that's right. I remember that, now that you mention it. Okay, well then how about more talk about what he was doing with the sprinklers to protect the historical building. :)
hex0rz1. Look into the sprinkler system that is fixed to the tallest point of a structures roof. There are massive ones that cover 300' diameter circles all around your building
Prayers for you and the. Crew you're with. I am so grateful there are people whose job it is to rush in to save us and our stuff. What an amazing thing.
Wow, nice 1st house. Easily defensible. Nice job by homeowner. A quick spray down prior to the flame front with some foam to increase the moisture uptake into the wood, and that looks like winner with little work. The other homes, you guys got some work... Thanks for sharing this. I am going to watch this with my crew at the FD and talk about what you showed. Many of them have never deployed. This is a great tool!!! Thanks, keep safe on the line Cody and Crew!!!
Wow so much equipment. I've been fighting fires for 30 years here in Australia. Love seeing how you guys fight fires there in the states. Keep up the great work. Ps it looks like we are going to have a bad fire season here this summer it's only September and we've had several fires already. Keep safe
Thanks Cody! My best friend has a cabin within a 1/4 mile of that historical building. Feel better knowing you and a lot of others are staged there. Hopefully the stays on the other side of the ridge!
And thank you Wranglerstar for all the work you are doing out here stay safe I will pray for you and all the other fire fighters helping keep us safe.God bless.
Thanks for the insight that goes on behind the scenes. Lots of prepping and training. A lot of people think it's just putting the wet stuff on the hot stuff. But they fail to see what it takes to get to that point. Thanks Cody for your service. Stay safe my brother.
Thank you so much for your service Cody I think your channel is very good but I think that what you do as a profession is something that helps protect people and that is truly admirable, thank you.
Thank you for making these videos. I'm sure it takes a lot of valuable time out of your busy days. It is amazing to see these clips that most people will never see and also the helpful tips like keeping windows shut. Thank you, and stay safe!
Loving these videos, I'm from Australia so seeing how firefighting is done elsewhere is most interesting. Had volunteer crews from your part of the world help out in fires near where I live and vice versa too. A man or woman who volunteers to risk their life to protect other peoples property from fire like you do is a real hero in my book.
Lol after searching for a while I could only find them actually being sold in one place (I think they may be phasing these out for a newer DOT standard) www.nationalfirefighter.com/store/p/3915-Safe-T-Way-DOT-/-Transport-/-Jerrican-Safety.aspx
Hi Cody, I would never grind you about the Metric system in times like this but what you are doing is truly awesome and respectable hence Why I Think You're Doing This. Its always interesting and a pleasure to see in behind the scenes in wildland firefighting work, some beautiful homes too. Take care and stay safe dude. Craig
Wranglerstar, these Pittsburgh yinzers are on our first ever trip to Napa and San Francisco right now. I've been a daily viewer for a couple of years now. NAPA and San Fran both are covered in smoke so thick I don't think we can see much more than a couple hundred yards. They say the smoke is coming from Northern California areas. Thinking about you and your colleagues. God bless and be safe
It's the same reason we all do it: It's fun. It's hot, crummy, backbreaking work, but at the end of the day it's fun to help people, it's fun to play with fire, and it's fun to have people think you're cool.
Hey #wranglerstar,my name is Ryan and my family has hunted that country for over 30 years. I've shot a lot of bucks out of the jolly mountain. We have a cabin up there. Go up the NFD road 230 and drop down into some switchback roads and we own the cabin down there. Thank you for fighting the jolly mountain fire.
I really like these types of videos. Living in the Southeast, its something I'm not often exposed to. It is interesting to see the prep and methods of fighting wildland fires.
Thank you very much for your service Cody. I'm feeling guilty for nor helping I'm painting in The Dalles and I feel that helping you guys will be better at this point.
I should build one of thoes sprinkler circles but my neighbor kids might mess with it. Regardless I learned so much from this video, thank you so much!
Thanks for the video. Stay safe! I live in cle elum and have multiple friends and family affected by the fire. Thanks for the help! Like all your videos
Glad this is back up! Watched it on the 3rd and then it was taken down or something. Keep the great videos coming! Any comment regarding the fact that the 747 supertanker not being utilized in the recent US and Canada fires on the west coast?
Nice job !! Cody with show and tell, I enjoy ALL your videos. The layperson really has no idea what you guys go through or experience in a potential IDLH atmosphere .. keep it up please, AND Thank you..Be Safe
We don't have the super dry climate here in New Hampshire that they do in the north west. I always wondered why houses out there didn't have sprinkler systems mounted on them through the roof, only charged during a fire.
