Let's hope Finland embraces thier wolves and doesnt persecute them like Sweden is doing right now .We have so much to learn from them . May they roam free .
This would be an absolute dream of mine, I love wolves. I have visited Finland a couple of times not for photography but I would definitely like to. Amazing photos and footage of the wolves and the editing was fantastic!
That was quite stunning. I do not comment on a lot of video's but couldn't resist on this one. What captivates me most about wolves is they appears to be very inquisitive but always making sure they are aware of their surroundings. Add to their beauty is the look in their eyes. I could see I would have taking hundreds of photos in the forest you were in whenever he looked in your direction. Very well done.

Thank you for the Jim Brandenburg comparison. I think I got it. I just now realized that he has the same type of photograph with the wolf peeking out from behind the tree.
Fantastic experience - the solitude in nature. Wonderful film showing the climate, at least it can be imagined. The climate in that forrest must have been very unique. Creativity as always at the top level. Congratulations. Always very nice to watch.
Thanks Robert, I'm glad you liked it. I'm also glad I finally finished the video. I had to struggle with the masses of video footage and the footage was also rather noisy so I had to do lot of denoise work.
@@PetriKoivistoPhoto This is not easy, I believe. So many elements. But you have been doing it pretty well. It is always some depth within and a piece of you. Those films may not be very popular but they are unique. Keep making them if you like to. Always nice to watch a new story you are telling through another film.

Love the beginning audio of the birds singing and your color grading. What software do you use for video editing? I wanna start doing some video, also what software do you use for noise reduction? I shot some video the other day and it has some noise I wanna get rid of.
Thank you. The singing bird is Red-flanked bluetail, which has spread from the east to Finland. It is still quite rare here. I use Premiere Pro. I shoot with Canon log3. For basic correction I use Todd Domineys LUTs which are awesome for Canon R5 and R6. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LGcUb-hDMLw.html I use Lutify.me package for color grading (Cine looks luts or Teal & Orange luts at 35% or so). I use NeatVideo to remove noise from the video if necessary, but generally I try to keep the noise reduction to a minimum.
I’ve dreamt of seeing wolves and bears in the wild in Finland, and coming across this video has sealed the deal for me! Great video and beautiful colour grading! On a side note, I’m curious as to what your ND filter solution was for bits filmed with the RF100-500? I’m really struggling to find a suitable ND filter for this lens.
I use the PolarPro Peter McKinnon ND filter. The downside of ND filters is that it makes it difficult to use the lens hood. I have come to the conclusion that I usually don't use a lens hood at all. I haven't encountered backlighting problems much. In a hide, though, it is a problem because you may not be able to remove the lens from ”hole” of the hide. When shooting wolves, I left the ND filter off because the wolves arrive at dusk. On the second camera I had a Canon EF lens with a drop-in ND filter. That is a good solution for photography hides.

@@gavthane I have such a small hand that I can fit the filter by first putting the lens hood in place, then inserting my hand into the lens hood and screwing the filter on, but this is really tricky.
Well, not really. But sometimes you may have a bad luck and you don't see wolves at all. I was only one night in both hides. Surprisingly I didn't see bears at all. I also spent one extra evening and one morning in nearby lakes and swamps filming other nature footage and recordings.
What an amazing experience Petri! I've enjoyed watching the video. Are the hides you've visited especially for wolves or did you originally come for the bears?
Thanks. The hides are for Bears, Wolves and Wolverines. Bear should be the easiest one but surprisingly I did not see any. There were seen at least 5 bears in the area same time. The best time to see all three at the same time is probably summer (Paradise hide), but it is hot in the hides and there are millions of mosquitos.

@@gladysklip6984 At the end of May, the first wolf arrived in the swamp at 20.00, but did not dare to come closer to feed (but passed my hide very close). It didn't come to eat until 24:00, when it started to get dark and it wandered around for 3 hours. In the pine forest the wolf was present at 20.00-21.00, 22.30-23.15 and 4.00-6.00. (Sunset at 22.45, Sunrise at 3.15)
You are right. It's worth mentioning. I think 100% of commercial wildlife safaris specializing in mammal photography FROM A HIDE provide food for the animals. In fact, at 5.20 I tell viewers that the wolf came to the scene to dig up pieces of fish hidden in the ground.
