Well that was really different and so beautiful what views! The buzzards are such wonderful birds, and the tractor idea was really great in catching other birds from close angles. The deer at the end was so lovely, totally relaxed .Very enjoyable once again.🥰
Thanks Alison, it's really nice to do things slightly different and have a change of scenery! The closeness to the Buzzards were awesome, not all caught on camera but a memorable experience for me. Cheers R 👍
Hi Richard wildlife photography in a tractor definitely a first, absolutely fantastic footage of the Buzzard top marks for coming up with following the tractor around the fields, stunning scenery and the Roe deer at the end what wonderful light you had at the end of the day, truly a fantastic video thank you for sharing your photos and video with us. Martyn
Thanks Martyn, it was a great day and so much Wildlife around, I've been back a few times and seen quite a few Roe Deer and Foxes so a bit more photography coming soon. Thanks as always R 👍
What a great day to spend a day. I have some of my best encounters just walking along the local hedgerows and shooting into the fields. Brilliant stuff
Glad to see your still posting on RU-vid!👍👍 Great blog ,great location , great captures !! Love the shot of the sparrow hawk !! And of course the deer 🦌 lol !!! Big thumbs up mate as always 👍
Thanks very much, it was a massive bonus seeing the Sparrowhawk and a total surprise to be honest, but what a bonus! Cheers, Deer was so good to see. Cheers R
Great Vlog, wonderful views over Loe Bar. Sorry that the slow worm got eaten, lovely creatures and the Roe Deer at the end, they didn’t seemed bothered you being there. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Gill, It;'s a cracking spot and always reminds me how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the country! Yep, poor slow worm but they've got to eat, and the Roe Deer was a cracking example of a fit male. Thanks for watching, Kingfisher video coming soon Gill. Cheers M 👍
Great 'rather different' video vlog and approach from tractor Richard. Good to see also another interesting (if unfortunate) prey item to add to the wide list of prey buzzards take at different times. I have had one stalking rabbits on the ground (by simple playing statues at edge of the hedge and pretending to be a buzzard), and another took to sitting on our garden furniture as perch for diving down to catch frogs in our pond. If interested to see - these clips are in my playlist 'Buzzard hunting' . Won't post link here for now, in case you prefer not to have any links in comments.
Thanks Jochen, great to be able to do something different from time to time, yep the prey list for Buzzards is quite extensive isn't it! I am currently reading a very old book on Buzzards which is such an interesting read. I am more than happy for you to post links, it all adds to the knowledge and interest for me so please go ahead. Thanks again Richard 👍
Lovely Buzzard footage Richard, certainly something different mate. Thats the thing with wildlife photography youve got to think outside of the box. Good work pal. All the best, Si 📷👊🏼👌🏼
Thanks Si, it was a great day and like you say nice to do something different for a change, I've been back since and the Roe Deer and Foxes have been out so been great to see some action! Cheers R😀
Thanks Andy, it was so good to see them at close quarters and just witness new things. I've seen the Foxes since I've been back but yet to get a good image. Next time.. Cheers R 👍
Quite a unique way to do wildlife photography Richard, not sure how your going top that. Beautiful scenery and all those species too, I would imagine that was a good day in the life book for you? I have approached our local farmers in the past but sadly due to past bad experiences with other wildlife photographers disrespecting them and there property they would not allow access, can't say I blame them. I drove to London and back recently from the North east in the same day, we saw fourteen buzzards, nine kestrels and multiple red kites. Sadly we couldn't photograph them but a pleasure see.
Thanks very much for watching, it certainly was a very enjoyable day and I will be doing it again on the next cut for sure! That's a real shame, I always keep good relations with the local farmers and try not to push my luck, it's a privilege that can always be withdrawn! Wow, that's quite the tally of species, always a pleasure to see:-) Cheers R 👍
Excellent video Richard and what a fantastic unique approach to get the shots. I often watch the Buzzards around the tractors but would not have thought about the inside approach. Not easy though with the moving tractor 😂. Well done, cheers Keith
Nice one mate. Great vid as usual and remarkable shots of the buzzard. As you say, the key to getting close to wildlife is to learn their behaviour and make sure they are relaxed with your presence. 👍🏻
What View you jammy blighter! Great video again with beautiful footage and stills. Fingers crossed the meadows next door are cut while I’m off. I can feel another project coming 😂
Thanks, it was such a unique experience and so nice to see them at close quarters, not normal as you know! Always good to do a project or two, best of luck R 👍
Excellent encounters and images Richard, I have private access to a local Farm that I really struggled to get any success with Buzzards over the Winter. Looks like I’ll have to pay them a visit in the coming weeks. Just a thought what about placing a road kill pigeon out?👍
Thanks Laurence, it was such an awesome day and to have the evening session was such a bonus as the light was so much better, the heat haze in the day was really harsh! Best of luck with your session on the Farm, be good to hear how you get on. Cheers R 👍
Thanks so much for the reply Richard. The clip of a our 'Bunny Buzzard pretending to be a rabbit on the ground' in order to catch one is here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1oDSaR51ceA.html . And one of the same pale buzzard diving into our pond after frogs is here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FLtG-Mwa9hQ.html . The first behaviour in particular with the Buzzard just standing on the ground lie a statue, waiting for rabbit to come close is something I had never seen or heard about before. Interesting if you come across anything similar in the old book about buzzards you are reading.
My pleasure Jochen, always a good to be in touch with you, I love all your stuff on social media and always learn a lot, especially on Deer! I will take a look at those videos for sure, if you are happy for me to share I will? The book is awesome, very old but it's called The Buzzard and is by Colin R Tubbs and is such an insight into the life of Buzzards, most of his work took place in the New Forest. You can get it second hand on Amazon if that interests you? All the best Richard 👍
@@RichardBirchett aha = what a coincidence. I met Colin Tubbs a fair few times whilst doing my phd at Southampton, and various work in the New Forest relating to Deer management planning (whilst Colin was with Nature Conservancy). Sadly he died soon after I came to Exmoor in teh mid-1990s. I have not read the buzzard book of his, though he also wrote other on the New Forest ecology and archaeology.
