This steam engine had a crusty sight glass from running it with tap water when I was a kid (50 years ago). I filled it with vinegar and let it sit overnight. It was rinsed and then filled with distilled water. Not wanting to put it away with a damp boiler, I had this great idea to just run till all the water in the boiler evaporated. Unbeknownst to me (at the time) running it dry melts the solder out of the seams in the boiler. NEVER run your steam engine dry!!
