This video presents my take on the recent passage of the 2024 FAA Reauthorization Bill: H.R.3935 Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act. What do you think of the act? What do you think of the mentions it makes of aircraft dispatchers? I am very interested to see further information on this and its various definitions of "air carriers." Does "air carrier" mean only 121 for this section? It's not clearly defined to me!

Always remember that Laura, when you get right down to it, is just a pilot and a dispatcher. She is explaining facts from the source materials but may be incorrect or out of date. You should always follow your primary guidance (Aircraft manuals, government regulations, etc.) before listening to anything from this RU-vid channel. I am currently a flight control manager for a Part 135, and these changes are intriguing. We are on-demand, and while we do have licensed dispatchers, it will be interesting to see if they end up implementing the dispatcher certificate for Part 135. I also have remote dispatchers, so I am interested in learning more about this and if it will apply to Part 135 as well. These seem to be blanket statements at the moment.

Thanks for watching and giving feedback from your perspective. I agree that their language is so vague it’s very hard to tell what will even come out of this when it gets to the FAA.

Hi. I've been in the business over 20 years and am a DADE, 8 years. Now, for 121 Supplemental many of us have been pushing for this for a long time, as many carriers including my current company have more complicated and global flying compared to regional or domestic carriers. Also, why most require a Dispatcher Certificate. When it comes to 135, that is more complicated, as many 135's may still have pilots file flight plans and the "Flight Followers" don't necessarily Dispatch but do a lot of support with looking up routes, permitting, etc. Again, depends on the 135 certificate holder and type of operation. The one benefit would be to have a better pathway and entry for new Dispatchers.

Hello! Thanks for your thoughtful explanation of this new possible requirement. I agree that this would help open up more jobs for dispatchers, but with my students unable to work on graduation (if they are 21 or 22), I am honestly concerned about their knowledge breaking down since they won't be able to even apply for a 135 job or 121 supplemental anymore.

@LauraLaster747 agreed but Assistant roles will also open up as a path. Well at least I'm sure that's the thought.

Where do you teach dispatch school? Is it online? What do you think of Sheffield School of Aeronautics?
@LauraLaster747

I actually attended Sheffield myself! It’s a great and challenging program but prepares you very well. I teach at LeTourneau University. It’s not online but we have some degrees that are online. The dispatch course is in the classroom. The FAA has never (to my knowledge) allowed any all-online dispatch school.

@@LauraLaster747 - That's awesome that you attended Sheffield! I plan on doing my dispatcher training there! From what I have read their training program is rigorous but it is the best you can receive. I'm currently studying for the ADX using their test prep app. I have taken a few practice tests and get a better score every time! I work for FDX and didn't know dispatchers existed prior to getting into the aviation industry. It seems like a tough, yet rewarding career!

@@robertmartin3194 That is very encouraging! I also recommend Sheppard Air - I haven't used Sheffield's prep app, but Sheppard Air consistently produces great results for ADX test scores. It is a very rewarding career. One of my former students is a dispatcher at FedEx!

@@LauraLaster747 Are there still DC-9 questions on the ADX?
@LauraLaster747

@@robertmartin3194 Great question - no one can be certain of all FAA questions being used since they don't publish the bank. However, figures 48-49 are for the DC-9 and were still in the ASA test prep ADX and ATP book, if that helps any!
