I immediately thought on the talk about the female astronaut: my man, we don't have *any* astronauts to speak of, and unless we get the future people to make a success of our space program, we won't have any! That is why this sort of thinking is self-defeating. If you want your daughter to be an astronaut, have several daughters and sons...

Victor Orban in Hungary is reversing the demographic decline by giving large tax breaks to married couples that have a child, it is increased for a second child, and for 3 children the couple are not taxed at all. It's a policy that works, the divorce rate has plummeted, and women are far happier as well.

You should read Edward Dutton's thesis (he runs a channel called the Jolly Heretic). He has the numbers, and has written books which mathematically support your concerns. Peak genetic IQ was 1870, since which time harsh Darwinian selection stopped taking place. The genetic decline has been masked by the fact that more of us reach our genetic potential. Not only am I convinced he is right, I believe we will begin to see real-world effects in the next 20 years. i.e. we literally cannot find enough people who are sufficiently smart to be the doctors and engineers that are essential to our day-to-day survival.

I’m so sick of hearing about “demographic decline” and that’s why we need so many new people to come into the country. The baby boom was an anomaly and the government should’ve planned accordingly. It’s all supposedly to support the retirees in the Ponzi scheme of paying for pensions. There has always been far fewer people in the UK. If you look at the census from before the baby boom you will see there were fewer people being born and living to adulthood. It’s like the normal numbers you would have today if they weren’t bringing so many people in. IMHO there is a “not enough cheap workers” for corporations. All this immigration does is drive down wages for the native working class. If you study history and know about the Black 💀 that unalived so many people in Western Europe then you will understand that it lifted the poor surfs out of poverty. They were finally able to move to different places and demand a certain wage and the wealthy lawnmowers who were desperate for workers gladly paid it. Life got so much better for the workers. If

He also seems to not see that there are *only* two *viable* options in this scenario: either a population is made to operate in conditions of modernity until selective pressures cause the birth depression that is concomitant with first-world living to evaporate (this seems to be Japan's current choice); *or* modernity is in part or whole rejected and drastic changes to the way of life are made. Things like tax breaks simply add fuel to the fire: more money means more of modernity to avail yourself of, and those with the least in society are *and have always been* the most propagative.

When men were paid family wages, they were earning more to provide for both wife and children. Now, most households need two paychecks to survive, and when no matching threshold surpassing paychecks meet, no family occurs. Women were essentially being paid to raise children when men had family wages. I suspect receiving money directly from the government changes the family creation process. It might benefit some but not the whole.

A child is two dependents: the child himself and the adult who has to care for and educate him. In the 1970s, women stopped having so many babies and became worker/taxpayers themselves. That was a massive increase in the workforce and a massive drop in the proportion of dependents in the population: babies and their mothers. Most people don’t get a career they get a job. They work in a call center, a factory building site, cleaning toilets, serving on a checkout. These people have not the same incentive to want to work past 60 as your job entails. Getting a crowded bus, then a tube to work on a building site, carrying hods of bricks or to a tower block to clean offices and toilets or hotel bathrooms then you really won’t want to do that when you are nearing 70 and you are unlikely to be able to do that when you are heading towards 70. Not everybody gets paid for sitting round pontificating or sending a few emails.

I just turned 30 and have a 5 year old child. We've never been able to have another one. Why? Because I have a pregnancy condition that basically takes me out of life for 9 months. Meaning, I can't make money. When my daughter was born, I didn't go back to work full time so I could care for her and my husband, work part time and see to every other part of our lives and schedules. The ONLY things stopping us from having another kid, is me having to work, and the fact that we don't own a house (housing prices have risen so much since I left full time work we have been chasing a higher income but its still not enough). Life is too much for us with one child and both parents working, and we can't afford even the slightest drop in income. My student loan will hang over me for decades, with no career to show for it. We've just sold our car and will be biking everywhere, we don't drink or smoke, we cut where we can. Yet life is too busy, too expensive, too bureaucratic. We simply cannot afford to have another child and go through life with some form of sanity... and I would love nothing more than to have another child, without the three of us having to suffer so much for it. There are many people in the same boat... we are grateful for our one child, because many can't even afford that. And yet, so, so many people want more children, it's just that the consequences are so brutal, and it will take so long to correct any financial downfalls (as opposed to many from the boomer generation, who could afford to take more financial risks and not spend years of their lives trying to catch up).

Immigration, lowers wages, especially at the bottom end of the pay scale. Those whose salaries are thus lowered are far more likely to need both partners in a couple to be working. Immigration means that much of the social housing will be occupied by foreigners, and there will be a shortage of cheap, private rental accommodation. Landlords, knowing that the government will pay via corrupt agencies like circle very high rentals on behalf of immigrants, charge high rents. The native British pair cannot afford for one person to stay at home and look after the children. Childcare is horrifically expensive and beyond their reach, how do you imagine they can proceed?

You can’t just have children on your own; you need to be in a serious relationship. These are harder to come by these days and the dating culture is absolutely to blame. Of course, this culture is downstream from main societal culture around feminism and the attitude of the modern woman who have ever increasing standards and ever increasing competition for their attention. Sometimes, like me, you also just have romantic relationships that don’t work out. Economic factors are not really relevant if people want to have kids. Being poor certainly wouldn’t stop me.

The "raise our birthrate" solution is missing the point. 1. The dependency ratio is going to get much, much worse for 20 years, until the kids grow up to become workers. You will have retirees + kids to be funded by increasingly taxed and overworked working parents. 2. You can only mitigate it by raising retirement age AND funding benefits for parents. Solidarity should be sacrifice from the would-be conservative and traditional old ppl for the newer generation. 3. Raising birthrates sounds simple, but the main issue is NOT having kids, but raising kids. More kids raised with poorer funding is not a good idea. Kids we can afford are more valuable

This is a great discussion and I am glad to listen to it. Solution is something that all governments have not cracked yet. Yes, even for women. My daughter worked for a magic circle firm in London. 12 years in law. She had to resign last year as she had a child and could not justify leaving her child in day care as there were numerous problems. So in essence, the battle was won in favour of the child’s welfare. To have successive governments who can't work out a policy to support parents who are working, is extraordinary to me. It Tells me the will is not there. Also no one has looked at job fatigue and therefore no solution is even in place to deal with it. The government is being cheap and bringing in people instead of growing and investing in the people in UK. You also have the 'better off not working' where those who want to work, well, it just doesn't pay. So ultimately and given my restrictions on this resource. The very basic level of citizenship breakdown at the point of secondary education. A narrow education system which relies emphatically on academia. To the guy who's sixty, it all boils down to government policy. Bad policies which are not CITIZEN focused.

No it can't - its done. People like to blame the incomers but in reality the lions share of the blame lies at the those that have the voting power influencing where things are taxed and spent. It would have been incredibly easy to use the north sea oil boom to fund a society for many decades (ie Norway) but we didn't. The UK is a rent seeking economy - grind it out of people instead of creating or manufacturing something.

Immigration might be a Ponzi scheme, but so is expecting the local population to have more children each generation too. Not only that, but expecting the next generation to look after the generation before (ie elderly) is (a) a Ponzi scheme, and (b) not measured by the economy because it is unpaid work. As you have glossed over, ALL Ponzi schemes eventually collapse and we need to re-order the economy, not the number of children people want to have.

For me, as essential and important as culture is, it dont count for sh?@! if there are no nests for two lovebirds to nest in. Culture is more inportant in regards to the longevity of relations. We have priced the next generation of parents out of the housing market, if they are even working and/or will have jobs to go to with the imminent AI/Automation. That is a FATAL mistake, the dire consequences of which is barely acknowledged, by vested interests who will ensure that the situation will never be fixed, but get far worse. The problem you have with the inevitable requirement to raise the retirement age, with people that are generally fitter and healthier and live longer, is not in fact raising that age, but being too incompetent to tell the difference or even wish to compehenend the difference between voluntary, involuntary and incentivised, let alone a flexible scope than hard limit. Retired people have done the societal workshift that was asked of them. The body, mind or spirit is worn out for many of them. That does not however make them ignorant of national plights and if they willingly choose to help with those. Alas, the first port of call for any government these days, is always compulsion and totalitarianism, rather than simply asking.

Educational establishments, the media and popular culture have for a long time now hammered home the message that things that men have traditionally done are worthy of aspiring to and things that women have traditionally done are to be denigrated. You only need look at the way one of the most demanding school subjects that I studied has been treated: that is home economics, where we learned about nutrition and the science behind food production and preparation and hygiene. That subject is has been made not compulsory and is treated as a soft subject and an unimportant, subject, despite it being needed now more than ever. Likewise, other traditional female skills, which are important for homemaking and nurturing a family. Women excelling in female sports, such as netball are not revered, though that sport is played in Britain more than any other for females, but women participating in men’s sports, such as female football, all treated as if they have done something worthy and of interest. At the root of the problem you are discussing is the fact that the traditional female role has for generations now in elite circles, been disparaged, denigrated, demeaned, and sidelined. Reverse that and we will reverse the whole problem

The modern world and women's role is not sustainable. Women tend to work in healthcare, education, legal, bureaucracy, admin and in our planned economy with high taxes there is a heavily inflated number of these types of jobs. If people were healthy, home educated and the government was much smaller there would be way fewer jobs and careers available to women and more men would become economically attractive. You would still have a lot of women but the men would be the primary economic drivers once again. Also another problem is divorce rate. Around 80% of divorces are initiated by women, 80% of those divorces the men have done nothing wrong, 80% of those cases the women regret the decision 6 months later. So over 50% of divorces are initiated by women, with no fault of the man and the woman regrets it 6 months later. This is destroying the family unit at the margins and leading to more crime. It also makes high value men less likely to get married and support a family. Compare the marriage laws in the UK to Israel for example, the law in Israel is what the law used to be like in the UK. One final point, you should have the number of children that you can provide for and give a decent level of education, care and attention. Many people have children they cannot afford and the welfare state incentivises this behaviour. This is a huge drag on society too as higher value people pay more taxes for others to take advantage of. Solutions: cut the welfare state, cut government bureaucracy in general, adjust marriage laws to more of a contract that cannot just be broken, change the culture to encourage long term family units.

Married women going out to work in the 70s - * Trippled the tax base, mum, dad and the babysitter. * Suppressed wages without decreasing consumerism * Doubled the value of housing. Government and the rich and powerful could only do it once however. But in the 1990s they discovered they could replicate it with mass immigration.

If you are native to the land having kids should be a top priority whatever the financial situation, and have faith that all will work out in the end. Because of the current sociopolitical situation in the UK this in fact should now be declared a severe and extreme national emergency. Every man and woman of procreating age should make it a civilization-saving duty and mission to produce as many kids as possible here and now, before it is too late. Produce 100-1000 kids per white British family. Or risk complete extinction in under 200 years. The situation for Britons today is this dire that the risk of losing everything is very real. Then unite and peacefully restore ancient traditional native sovereignty in their ancestral homelands. Domestically produce more physical goods for export than the total value of imports. Compassionately repatriate temporary misplaced visitors in the lands of the Anglo Saxons/Celts back to the civilisations they created in their ancestral homelands of origin. Teach and oversee clay brick house construction for them in their country. Keep them busy. The generosity of the welfare state is to blame when it is more beneficial for low paid workers to be unemployed than in work. Women have not been adequately supported and to avoid the situation of a low birth rate and increasing elderly population, women should've received monetary incentives to have more children. Immigration wouldn't be necessary and secures the growth of our indigenous population. The advance in technology always causes job losses. AI hasn't impacted yet and we need FEWER people. 48:50 Capitalism is good, the significant majority of people being influenced/inclined to prioritize financial incentive drivers in the most personal aspects of their lives, is bad. (Zero blame for women here, zero for men). I swear, it was barely 10-15 years ago that we still had the vestiges of a reasonably healthy, shared popular culture. People could actually meet each other in places, share common interests (not within some absurdly narrow subculture) and just happen to hit it off. It was possible for this to continue into one's 30's, and wasn't impossible for this to organically happen in 20's, at a more normal age. You mention Nina Power, she discusses the culture of the 90's, it had its downsides, but was probably the last time things were working 'normally'. (The decline became steeper, obviously, in 2010's). Honestly, not everyone was a defacto, ruthlessly 'materialistic,' self-interested Neomarxist by default. Being naturally quirky or interesting was cool, being excessively aggro-driven was not cool. (Ambition is healthy. There's a fine line). Does Sargon's Lotus-Eating apprentice, really think it's impossible for us to re-synthesize this particular dialectic? (Lol for real you're good bro, all of you are good). Gotta say, that near-future might be a little too callow, for me to even try to mess with it. Or into which to necessarily introduce my quirky, clever-ish offspring. If its 'soul' has already been extracted, you can go ahead and have this culture, I guess I'll just hunker down and start writing some kind of manifesto, FML (working title).
