Will Butler tomó la difícil decisión de abandonar Arcade Fire, la banda liderada por su hermano Win Butler junto a Josh Deu en 2001, para tomar su propio camino en solitario. Así surgió el proyecto Will Butler + Sister Squares, la banda que formó junto al productor Miles Francis, a su esposa Jenny Shore, a su cuñada Julie y a Sarah Dobbs, que nos ha traído este años su disco de debut. En cierta medida, el álbum continúa la línea narrativa que Butler había iniciado con su disco de 2020, "Generations", con la introspección como punto de partida. La camaradería ha sido el sostén de este proyecto, algo de lo que carecía en Arcade Fire. Butler dejó Arcade Fire en marzo de 2022, tras la grabación del sexto disco de estudio de la banda, "We", editado en mayo.
