Glad you were able to locate and purchase your two camels. Especially when the mother camel adopted the male calf. Instant breeding pair in years to come. Fingers crossed the camels milk will heal your families intestines.
Found you today doing keyword search for farm. Man you have come such along great way. We bought bottle goat babies 4 years ago and I found your video "The Perfect Goat Barn Setup - what you need to make keeping goats easier!" Thank you for your content .
😍How exciting! Hope it works out for you! I used to do tours & teach at a wildlife preserve. 🐪One hump camel is a dromedary- their back is like a capital D on its side. 🐫Two humps - it's a Bactrian- like a capital B on its side! Also fun fact- not water in that hump, its fat storage for long droughts of food. 👁And they the have prettiest eyelashes, along with nostrils that close to keep sand out in desert storms. Also, cold weather is no biggie- it gets VERY cold in deserts at night so the temps here in PA are no problem. 🌈 THE MORE YOU KNOW😄 So excited for your new venture!
@@Homesteadyshow 😄 I taught kids and teacher ed credit summer camps at the preserve in Schnecksville - it's now called Lehigh Valley Zoo. Your kids by the way are awesome! They learn so much about life from your farm. Love the channel!
This is so cool awhile back I heard about people keeping camels and was hoping I would see someone in the homesteading community do this. awesome!! - Ruthie
I've been watching for 2 years now starting at the beginning and watching in chronological order. This is the video I've caught up to real time with! What am I supposed to do it I can't watch homesteady all day long? Thanks for all you share!
can you import the semen to expand the gene pool - I am in New Zealand as we do a lot of that both into NZ and we export around the world all types of animals
I'm so excited to learn about camels with you! I can't fit one on my 1/10th acre lot, so no camels in our future, but I'm definitely rooting for your success in this endeavor.
Wish I had the funds to join the camel train (I'm a poor college student haha). What a great idea it sounds like a great opportunity! I'm so excited to watch this camel train journey.
Your hair looks great!! My hair(long) and grown children have similar hair. Looks absolutely GREAT!! My sons are mid to late 30's. Daughters early, mid 30's and around forty. Curls long or short are special to have ♥️👍!! Enjoy this journey 🤗.
I am TOO excited abou this! lol BUT MOSTLY! I am a grandma helping raise my autistic grandson. We are, within the next two months, moving to a place to start homesteading. I was excited about getting a mini jersey. MAY BE we should get CAMELS! WHAT TIMING!!! THANK YOU GUYS! THANK YOU!
@@Homesteadyshow I am so looking forward to seeing that! Been researching since I found out you got camels. Amazing info! ALL RHANKS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
Hi Austin, cows and camels can co-graze. Camels leave a bacteria in the water that's beneficial to cows. Graziers in Queensland are doing it because it was good companion grazing.
i had a few run in with camels when i was working in Mongolia in the Gobi desert. Sticky critters. lol Good on you guys for trying it out. If you can help K and baby's health then it is well worth the effort!!
@@AnimalAce They never responded. I've never tried it, as their is no place local to me to get camal milk. 😂 Never know. I haven't seen any research on this. Only the comment here. YOU LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE. HAAAAAA.
CONGRATS YOU GUYS!! HOW EXCITING FOR YOUR FAMILIES HEALTH AND JUST FOR THE PLEASURE OF RASIING CAMELS AND BECOMING A DAIRY ONE DAY!! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!! IM A 61 YR OLD GRANNY WITH OODLES OF HEALTH ISSUES AND IM MORE THEN SURE SOME CAMEL MILK WOULD BE GOOD FOR ME ALSO!~ LOVE TO YOU ALL AND CANT WAIT TO LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCES!!!~ ALL THE BEST, GRANNY IN WA. STATE~
I'm not a homesteader though I wish I was. Maybe some day. I'd love to join the camel train and help y'all on this journey. Unfortunately, I just don't have the funds at this time. I'll continue to watch your videos and wish y'all the best of luck in this new endeavor to heal your family.
#askhomesteady As we all know not all cows and cow's milk are the same. A Holstein gives many gallons of low cream milk per milking, while a Jersey gives high cream yet much less volume. Which is my roundabout way of getting to my question. Has there been evidence, studies or anecdotal tales of which type of camel milk is better/more quantity. There are dromedary camels (the type you have) and bactrian camels (2 humped). Milk the same, or are there differences? One thing that somewhat irks me, but I keep my mouth shut (or fingers still) because I don't like to post critical or discouraging comments, but far too many homesteaders I see make the same mistake. Especially with large stock (horses, cows, camels...) - You want to always lead them all the way through gates and doors, out of stanchions. I frequently see animals turn too fast and ram their hindquarters/stifles against the door jams/gate posts. This could cause serious injury. Livestock are not always all that bright so it behooves us as their guardians to help them stay safe.
Keep sharin, love the vids, is it true camels can carry the corona virus? Hard to make change, praying what ever you do works well. Prayers to the journey and find joy each day
Aust, we are probably going to do it. My grandson was born with so many allergies his first year was scary to say the least. If I can learn 1 thing to make his life better its worth it to us. I doubt we will ever buy a camel, but I'm hoping to learn other things along the way.
Chaney, it is so scary to deal with food allergies in little ones too young to speak! I hope you find some answers! You can order the milk online btw ;)
This is so awesome! I do have a question, if it’s too nosey just skip it lol... you mentioned that they are very expensive and I was wondering, have you been buying and trying the camel milk to see if it works for your family or are you just pretty sure it will? It would suck to go through all this and not like it or it not help. Best of luck! #askhomesteady
Does your mentor have camels or had them in Texas near Wichita falls. There use to be quite a few camels we would stop and watch off the highway .. 283 South
I don’t know if you’ve addressed this previously, but have you tried formula for your baby? Or are you choosing to try camels rather than try formula? This would allow Kay and the rest of the family to go back to the diet that seemed to be working well for everyone before. Camels are cool and all, but I’m not following the logic of the decision here. Maybe you have tried other formulas? Yes the prescription formulas can be very expensive, but surely not as expensive as camels. Have you tried incorporating camel milk into your diet to see if solves the problems? I understand in principle the virtue of providing home-grown food for your family, the rabbits etc., but there are practical options available here that seem to make more sense to me and are far riskier. 🤷♀️ I don’t mean to be disrespectful, this is just the first decision made on homesteady that I honestly don’t understand. #askhomesteady
I would like to join, but I really can't afford it right now. I broke my arm working in the orchard and now have high medical debts that I have to pay now because I didn't, and still don't, have medical Insurance. I had to get a surgery to repair my broken arm.
Ted Sheltie, I know you must have made a mistake writing this sentence. I have tried to understand what you was trying to say but I can’t. 🤷♀️ { and babies sell well } ?
Thank you 😊 I worked hard to understand and I am happy to get the info. 😊🐪 These 🐪🐪 are so awesome 👏 Not all parents would be able to do this for their babies and for babies mamas. #HOMESTEADY 👍🐪🐪😊🌹🌹👍
@askhomesteady Austin, what about when their genetics change because of our Monsanto controlled agriculture? I am not pointing fingers, this is an honest concern of mine... I have so many allergies. I am so tired o being sick. I watch everything, you young people share!
@@Homesteadyshowactually I was thinking more along the lines of how long before the chemicals and genetic modifications that Monsanto bombards our food chain and food supplies with begins to affect the foods available to feed these animals and starts to impact the goodness of their milk. Trying not to be chicken little and the sky is falling, but in my 67 years, I have watched a terrible decline in the available 'clean' food sources. I grew up on a ranch and we bought salt, sugar, and flour from the grocery, we grew most everything else and ran a truck garden. Bailed our own hay, grew sorghum and corn to feed the livestock. My hat is off to all of the youngsters on youtube and in other digital arenas that are trying to bring back the good way of life and health.
😆 timing right! Go ahead and purchase the camel train and email me when you do so I know who’s account to change, I will cancel your reoccurring pioneer membership and you will have a lifetime one 👍
