Actually, there were no serious protests. Those were caused by foreign elements (by which I primarily mean CIA), and hanjians who literally came from Taiwan/Hong Kong to stir trouble in the mainland. On the other hand, in the West the governments don't care what the people want. You can protest for years, like they do in France, to no avail. That's because the governments - all of them - are CIA-controlled.
