@Kloyster True. She could've just told Sam she doesn't have time to argue because she's busy bathing Gregory. Knowing how Sam loves Gregory, I'm sure he would understand. Even so, it made me think if the said "curse" was real that it made them all do these stupid decisions or it's just that classic moment of turning off your brain and suffering for it. The studio really did a good job making it blurry. PS. I wish there was a DLC for Edith's story played by her son. I really wanted to know the story surrounding her childhood.
@glitterbug5678
@glitterbug5678 Год назад
That can be said about all of their deaths. Even the construction of the house became a glorified neglectful hazard. Like how she made a "castle tower". Nothing about that room was safe in any kind of way. Molly was sent to bed with no food as a very small child in a room full of potentially poisonous things. She built a swing on a cliff in front of a low fence and left her child out in a hurricane. She allowed her son to stay alone terrified in her basement till in his desperation he died trying to escape. And then she glorified it all. Even seemed to find it endearing. Contacted the news with story headlines and saved pictures.

Also, the doors(? whatever those are called) to the bathtubs were closed and I know she was arguing with Sam but what possessed her to hide her son from view that was just smth else imo
@narratornate8841
@narratornate8841 2 года назад
Actually it's hinted that it's less of a curse by the way Edith and her mom speaks of it. The stories depicting the deaths almost always show tales of potential neglect. Barbara didn't lock the doors or windows at night when a murderer was reported to be on the loose. Molly was left hyngry in a room full of poisonous items. Gregory was left alone in a bathtub as a baby. A particularly grabby baby might I add. Don't remember the name but one of the brothers was left alone in a storm that was like a damn hurricane. Lewis wasn't looked after or taken care of properly when he started to drift and lose himself. Dawn warned the hunter that the deer was still alive, but he didn't bother to check, brushing it off as normal. The stories helped the family grow accustomed to death, which led to them not trying to prevent it. They didn't pay attention to potential hazards, they didn't acknowledge most of the things that caused people to die, and every death was preventable except Edith's and Dawn's. They all chalked it up to some family curse, but the only curse was that they didn't pay enough attention.

Because death is a natural part of the circle of life, but this poor family bore the brunt of it to the extreme: but even then, life is still beautiful and worth living. Lewis' story hit the worst, cause it reminded me of my own older brother who I lost 13 years ago. When Edith says ,my brother was pretty cool, I wish you got to meet him' reminds me of my own nieces who never got to meet their older uncle. Life sucks sometimes, but you need to keep going.

I never believed it was a curse. The Finches died by someone's actions, an accident, or life choices. Most of them died by accident or because of life choices, bad or otherwise. It's a mixed bag, but definitely no curse. Edie liked the stories, hence the "curse," like when Edith mentioned the dragon instead of dragon shaped slide. They all died of different things, but they all died minus Edith's son, and most died young. I think Edie drank herself to death.

I dont think she liked them. For me, it feels more like a coping mechanism. Since, from the looks of it, at least a few of the deaths are due to her neglect. The stories are a way to keep the people she loved alive. Basically she had a similar thread to Lewis' condition.

The whole game seems to be a double metaphor. The people who live life to the fullest might be the ones who pass quickest, but in few cases the family didnt suffer before death. Their death scenes were styled as artistic and beautiful; just they way they wanted to live. It also could be a metaphor for child abuse/neglect and how easy it is to lose people. Molly was sent to bed without dinner and resorted to eating poisonous holly berries. Walter apparently never was consoled over his sisters death and spent 30 years afraid of the world. Gregory was left unattended in a bathtub by Kay, something all good parents know never to do. Gus was bullied by Sam as a child, thus didnt listen to him, and Sam evidently had very poor judgement between not calling off the wedding during the storm and not checking the deer was dead. Lewis had a brilliant imagination and instead of getting specific help, his parent solution to his problems was to ignore him and get him a life draining job. Dawn didnt respect Edith's wishes and ironically she and her grandmother passed away due to that choice.

The Finch family wasn't cursed, it was just how their lives played out. Edie dwelled in the glory of death while Dawn feared it. I'm still not sure how Edith felt about it, but it hurt that she didn't make it in the end. I felt the stories would've been better coming from her than her journal. Hi Mike! Thanks so much for playing this game! It was lovely and funny to hear your reactions to the weirder parts of the game and was happy to hear you enjoyed the story. What Remains of Edith Finch is one of the most memorable games for me because of the storytelling and visuals, and just how each tale hits you emotionally despite how different the situation and death. I don't believe there was anything supernatural involved. When bad things happen, we humans tend to try and make sense of things we don't understand; death being one of them. "Why do the good die young? Why did they have to die that way? It's so unfair" Death doesn't have to make sense. Death just is. A family "curse" was the easiest way (albeit not the healthiest way) to make sense or to cope with all the unfortunate events that happened to its members. I think Edith's last words at the very end really sum up the whole game. Rest of my thoughts are spoilers for those who haven't watched the game in its entirety below: "I don't want you to be sad that I'm gone. I want you to be amazed that any of us had a chance to be here at all." In addition to Edith's closing words, I think Walter's tale was very interesting because it spins a different perspective in contrast to the game. Imagine you could take two paths as a Finch. You could go out there and live your life, chase your dreams knowing that somehow, someday you'll die and not see it coming. But at least you got to live for a while and appreciate the life that you were able to have (just like what Edith says). On the other path, you could stay in one place and not take any chances, any risks, for fear of that unknowing death lurking around the corner. If you're protected by anything and everything from the outside world, then that's all that happens; absolutely nothing. Walter might have survived, safely and unhurt, for 30 years but he never really lived. The Finch deaths were mostly due to unfortunate circumstances and things beyond their control, but many were avoidable but fell victim to poor choices or the responsibility of someone else (eg. Gregory drowned in the bathtub due to neglect, Gus died in the storm neglected by partying adults, Calvin swung himself over a cliff when the swing should not have been built there in the first place, Molly ate holly berries which were extremely poisonous, Sam didn't make sure the stag was completely dead before being pushed off the cliff)

Two: If you look at the game system in Lewis Finch's room you'll see that it is called the "Wonderland Gaming Console". Its a little nod to the place that Lewis often daydreamed about! His imaginary dream world was called "Wonderland". So just wanted to point that out lol! A very engaging game and story yet very saddening and gloomy. But still a great game! Ty Mike very much for covering this game! This game is my all time favorite all just because of the lore and richness of its storytelling talent and artwork!

When I first came across this game, I had no idea what it was about but fell in love with the storytelling and little puzzles, and then the story hit me. As I went through it actually made me cry for some of the characters and hoped that our character would make it through and maybe pass their story on as well. I'm glad you liked this game as much as I did. Also, a suggestion though don't if it would make scheduling more difficult for you, You could ake a separate channel about more story-based games that aren't horror if you want to keep them separate.

When you really think about it, most of the Finch's deaths could've been avoided. Makes me feel like this "curse" was never really a curse, just tragedies that occured because mostly due to irresponsible adults.

Is it bad to say that the real villain of this game is the great grandma because she keeps making the whole family death into profit.
@SassafrasTee7366
@SassafrasTee7366 2 года назад
Yeah she turns all of them into stories. Walter is the mole man and Barbara died the way the comic book slasher did. Did you also realize that in Edie’s room, there were two books with the subject about death in the afterlife?!
@ladyvee2090
@ladyvee2090 2 года назад
SHB even commented that the basement looked exactly like it did in the story. Hell, you're only able to get in because of the story. Edie definitely gave them the details. She perpetuated the Family Curse for profit and fame and it's disgusting.

Not only that but she cause the death of her first child Molly by locking her in her room with no food. Who and where did she learn that parenting advice from!? That is more abusing and even hanging poisonous berry in said daughter room.

Really enjoyed this one! The individual character segments are so beautifully done with all their variety (in a morbid sort of way, of course.) Makes you wonder just how real the supernatural/curse elements were. Really liked the commentary too.

Frankly, I don't care if it isn't horror, I would love to see a playthrough of The unfinished swan. I never heard of the game & never thought of more about Milton when I played What Remains of Edith Finch.

This game is a wonderfully deep and incredibly melancholic masterpiece that showcases so much human emotion in one polished and utterly stunning playthrough and while the story of it and the familie curse is one to be pondered I think many would agree that this game is nothing if not an emotional rollercoaster. Where other games overexplain or leave way too much context to be desired this game, I feel, gives just the right amount of care about how much we get to see and in what way. I still adore it after all the years I've known it and I am so so happy you played it. Thank you for taking it serious and being sensible about all this. Thank you for playing this, I really mean it.

Finally got to finish watching the video just now, and omigod this story is sad and heartbreaking!! I couldn't fathom how much pain each and every Finch went through- and Edith Jr.'s son, no less, who only got to know about his mother's side of the family through stories.

Even though I never played the Unfinished Swan and don't know much about it, I believe the character you play is not Milton, I think he is in the game and I believe the makers confirmed that he is the king (the character you play is called Monroe, as you can clearly see it's easy to mix it up)

Omg yes PLEASE play unfinished swan on the channel!! I watched another youtuber play it when I was very young, and the nostalgia would be unreal. I don’t think any of us would mind that it’s not horror based, we don’t need you to constantly play horror games. It’s nice to have a break sometimes :)

I like how this game made a very creative way to portray a family situation. In my opinion, I don't think it was the "curse" that killed the Finch Family. It's more like the atmosphere in that family that affected all of them. It's like they have this unsolved family problems that made everyone fight and have this invisible distance in each other which made them lose their minds and paths. This then affected the children as well.

So sad this kid is also alone this is really heartbreaking because because we think this young boy is exploring his mom's childhood home and in the end, we discover that he was just reading the journal of Edith and putting flowers down on the ground below the grave it's just sad heartbreaking to see the end 🥺
