Expats living in Germany might pay less taxes than Germans in 2025. 🤑
That is the plan of the German government to attract new talent from all over the world. With the so-called "Growth Initiative" expats living in Germany would receive up to 30% tax rebate compared to Germans.

As a single person looking to move to Germany and work I am literally in the highest taxed category. Makes no sense.

The English term for "maximum tax rate" is "marginal tax rate"

A similar scheme in NL made it attractive for me to come and work in the Netherlands. I would not have come here otherwise. It certainly works to attract talent. Locals don’t like it ofc. However it was given for 5 years (30% rebate every year). Not sure I personally would seriously consider moving to another country if it was given only for 3 years, so not sure how effective it would be.

Thanks for the great video and all the information! Would this only apply for people who move to Germany after 2025?

Yes I’ve been working as an expat for 11 years and would be good to know if this would apply for me from 2025-2027

I have a successful career in my home country and built up relative wealth here as upper middle class. Moving to Germany would mean starting over financially to square one. So I welcome this, as it will help with relocation and make settling in a realistic prospect. But even this won't fully make up the disadvantage compared to native Germans who started off in Germany. So I don't think it should be viewed as discrimination over Germans, but would prefer if it came with strict integration requirements attached like German langues level and zero tolerance for criminal behavior.

I agree with your final reflection, it is a discrimination to the Germans. It is incredible that the German government treats their citizens as second class people. PD: Is it available for expats who come to Germany or also for expats who live already in Germany? So I can benefit myself from it😂

This law is unconstitutional, it will never go through.

Nederland already had this. Germany should reduce tax for expats, bcz most expats do not have own home and have to save money to send back home

I moved to Germany in 2019 (5 years ago). I have had a German work visa and tax number (steuernummer) since then. I am still just a temporary resident (my visa status is fully tied to me working in the country). Does this Growth Initiative apply to someone like me? Or is this for brand new expats? I am thinking about applying for the Niederlassungserlaubnis or German citizenship... is the growth initiative applicable for people who a 1st year permanent residents? Is it invalid for anyone who becomes a 1st year German citizen, technically making you "a German"? So many questions... hope you can help.

Why is the unemployment rate at 6% if there are as many vacancies as you say?
@PerFinEx
@PerFinEx Месяц назад
Because the 6% unemployed people do not offer the type of work companies in Germany are looking for (e.g. software development).

@@PerFinEx Interesting because I applied to 19 Ausbildung opportunities in "Fachinformatiker Anwendungsentwicklung" and got rejected, maybe I'm too old (30) but a couple friends in the sector tell me it is oversaturated and companies keep those offerings up to farm personal information through the applications. Since they are usually web-dev its free assets and data for them.
