I've been massaged many, many times and the only other ways I've been massaged were with all clothes on (rare, but typical of places with multiple tables in the same room), or a few places required just underwear on. I've had a ton of massages and I almost always talk with my massage therapist during them. Only on a few occasions have I been silent during most of it, and those times felt very awkward and weird. Nothing wrong at all talking with your massage therapist. I think they generally enjoy the conversation because otherwise they might feel like it is kind of dehumanizing them and making them out to be just an object there to service you if you are silent the whole time.
