2:17 eastern fence lizard (Sceloporus undulatus) is a medium-sized species of lizard in the family Phrynosomatidae.[3] The species is found along forest edges, rock piles, and rotting logs or stumps in the eastern United States. It is sometimes referred to as the prairie lizard, fence swift, gray lizard, gravid lizard, northern fence lizard or pine lizard. 👍🐿👍

I have to wonder if your affliction is poison oak. I've never seen poison ivy that bad before in my 72 years. One of the shelters along there had a resident black snake that kept the mouse population down. Good video. Glad that you are cleaning the hiker boxes. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

Oh man that poison oak looks terrible and itchy. I’m highly allergic to it as well but sometimes I take a little bit of bleach and water and dabble it onto the skin . My wife says I’m crazy but I think it helps. But for a sure fire way to get rid of it is to get a shot and it will be gone in a couple of days. I’m enjoying all of your videos thanks for sharing them with us.

Cold showers, or a dip in the river will do. Then get a tube of Benadryl Cream, make sure it is the cream. As drippy as that is, and hiking everyday, you may want to get two tubes. I am super allergic, trust me this will work. Keep it as clean and dry as possible, cool shower, and the cream will fix you up.

Could you make a video about the recipes/meals you’ve cooked on trail. Or a video of you resupplying in town? Hows the backpack holding up for you? been considering ordering but worried about how it’ll how it’ll hold up in the long term

I know you’re a pro, but I gotta pick some nits: 1. I would absolutely filter water from that pipe. Beyond giardia etc, all those nasty hiker hands on it every day seems just begging to get noro or some other nastiness. 2. 1lb on a foot = 5lb on the back. I can’t find it now, but I saw a study last year that debunked that claim. I think it was a military study. Will circle back with a link if I can find it. 🍻
@RamblingReason

1lb on the foot = 5lb on the back being bs I saw that article too I believe It said it only applies if your doing over 4/5 mph so won't apply to 99% of hikers

Sometimes hikers change their shoes too early because they send themselves new ones. A hiker box in high season like now can absolutely provide useful shoes and almost everything else a hiker may need. However, I heard a rumor of a super experienced calendar year triple crowner who nearly killed himself with hiker box shoes. Apparently something cut into his feet and he nearly passed away with blood poisoning after getting an infection. I really hope this was just a rumor.

Love these videos! That rash is gnarly. Maybe you'll find some Prednisone in one the hiker boxes 😆 it makes my husband stir crazy, so I'm curious what kind of miles you could do on it 😂 (and the whole poison ivy rash gone would be nice). Happy hiking 🥾

Ivy X makes pretreatment wipes to put n before you walk thru a bad patch like that. And they make post exposure wipes for after. I have also had pretty good results with using hand sanitizer if I get swiped with urushiol oil (the “problem” that is found on poison oak/ivy/sumac. )it will linger on surfaces. I’d wipe your pack down.

The southern cookie lady is so generous! She wouldn't take any extra money I tried to give her, I bought myself 2 extra cookies and left a $20 but instead of taking the money she gave the next 6 hikers 2 free cookies instead of 1. The trail really reminds you that people can be amazing ❤

Consider wearing pants to reduce poison ivy risk. Also avoid dogs, as they can carry the toxic oil on their fur. Maybe poke holes in the shoes to make them more breathable. Nice 80s synth music (not usually heard on hiking videos).

Poison Ivy...I’ve obviously missed a video somewhere dammit...! It never ceases to amaze me when watching thru-hikes in the US, the amount of support from trail angles & the genuine friendships made from fellow hikers. We just don’t have that in the uk. That experience alone is gonna make such an addition to the actual trail when I get the chance to fly across the pond myself. Loving this series my man...thank you. ATB .Wish.

If you can find some red clay along the trail, you can make a clay poultice to pack on that poison ivy. As it dries it will remove a lot of the inflammation and dry those blisters out.

I was going to call BS on the weight claim for the GTX vs non-GTX Olympus's, but it's 12.3oz vs 16.7oz and that's presumably in a men's 9 so 13's are going to add several more ounces I'd imagine.
@QuadzillaHikes
@QuadzillaHikes 3 месяца назад
Yeah I don't mean it is literally 1lb heavier, that's the turn of phrase but it is significantly heavier than a non gtx shoe

@QuadzillaHikes

But the ironic thing is it's my regular shoes that caused the cut and the infection, not the hiker box ones, if anything these shoes saved the infection for 200 miles til I started wearing the la sportivas again after Damascus
