Will I get a visa to Europe as a Russian citizen? // Schengen visa application process

Is this video title a clickbait or do I again monetize my life failures? Watch this video and find out!
I always wanted to visit countries of the European Union, but without a Schengen visa, it's impossible to go there as a Russian citizen. Since I was lucky to get a residency permit of Georgia, now I can apply for a Schengen visa from here. It's very important for me because it would be unsafe to return to Russia and go through that process there. So in this video I will tell you about my attempt to get a Schengen visa as a Russian citizen in Georgia!

As EU citizens we tend to forget how convenient it is to be inside the Schnengen area and how great it is to have passports that allow visa-free travel to many countries outside of the EU. Glad to see that you got through this ordeal.

It's definitely a privilege to be a EU citizen! I would never want to trade places with anyone who isn't. We even drive across the border for like ten minutes because petrol is cheaper on the other side. 😂 But all joking aside, I'm glad for Natasha that she can experience free travel between many countries herself as well for two months.

I remember as a kid when traveling with my family through Europe, and we needed passports and vet certificates for some countries. And now we're so much freer, I sometimes think we're not enough aware of and taking advantage of it

You are so right. Travelling around is now so basic for us. A week in Germany? Lets book tickets.. A weekend in Greece? Great idea. It happened that I moved to work in a European country outside EU which citizens until a few months ago still needed visa. I ve been feeling so sorry, almost guilty for them.

The U.S.A. doesn't even have anything similar to Schengen visa domestically. Any U.S.A. citizen of any state can move to another state and become a citizen. There are 49 other states to choose from. Besides, such a migrating citizen usually doesn't even need to know a new language (yes, there are a few places which may put one "on the spot" but they are very rare). It's true that many of us 🇺🇸 don't even have a U.S.A. passport. It's because we are already multi-state families spread out mostly in North America. My child, for example, lives in a different state and has taught in higher education in Mexico, still in North America ! 😊

@@solconcordia4315 yeah but you can't compare domestic US travel. As someone who emigrated from the EU to the US almost 2 decades ago, I can tell you that any domestic trip I've ever had in the US feels like I've never left home. Same culture, things look very familiar, same language. This is very different in Europe. Sure, you can just hop on a train or airplane and travel to another country, but when you arrive odds are you don't understand the language, things may look drastically different, cities look very different, food is different, culture is different.

Congratulations Natasha and remember they (the Dutch border force) will stamp your passport/visa with a date in. When you leave Schengen you need to make sure they stamp your passport/visa again with a date out. This is important for future Visa request you want to make. I've read some stories from UK residents that got a stamp with date in but on return back to the UK the spanisch border force didn't stamp it with a date out. (some of the smaller spanisch islands Gran Canaria). So when you return from Spain to Georgia make sure and demand they stamp it with a date out. Some of these UK resident got problems when returning to the EU and where refused entrance because of this missing stamp and date out of Schengen. When you visit The Netherlands please consider to travel out side of Amsterdam too. The Netherlands is small but there is a difference in several area's of this small country. Amsterdam is a mundane city and there are about 180 different nationalities living/studying and working there. Some tips if i may give you these. The netherlands has some university cities outside of the big 4 Delft, Rotterdam, Groningen en Amsterdam. Enschede , Utrecht, Leiden, Eindhoven Maastricht etc. Things to see : Amsterdam of course. Some smaller villages outside of Amsterdam like Naarden, Volendam, Edam, Alkmaar. Rotterdam (the food hal with food from all over the world but the building it self is a piece of art). Leiden (City walking touir with Wall poems about 120 from diffent countries and writers). Den Haag (where our government is located). Den Bosch (underground river and the world famous Bossche bollen). Maastricht (one of the oldest city's of the netherland). Groningen ( Museum modern art, Oosterpoort for music events) Leeuwarden (located in Friesland a nothern provence where they speak a different language close related to old English) I will closely watch your adventures in Europe and how you look at Europe with an other view from outside and notice things we take for granted or we could do better. I do hope you will get a student visa in the future. Save travels.

I never forgot her reaction when she first time saw a border .... It was priceless. It was back in 2017 when we went to St Petersburg. Russia would be an absolute world leader if run properly. Look how much land that is Russia. And imagine the resources and possibly that landmass gives. But Russia is a failing state, heading for an, at this point, inevitable collapse. Question is only when and what will happen. But Russia will collapse. And for at least a few years, probably more than just a few years, things is gonna be far worse than after the fall of the USSR. And this time, some of the forces that helped Russia back then will be reluctant, at best. And the motivations behind doing it lady time, non existing or sitting very deep down. The moment Putin pulled the trigger on Ukraine, he signed the death warrant of Russia as we know it. it's not a question of if. It's a question of when. And how.

Hi Natasha. It's great that you're visiting the Netherlands! I’d also recommend considering it as a potential place to immigrate. I’m Italian and moved here five years ago, and the quality of life is exceptional. The salaries are high, personal safety is excellent, and the work culture is fantastic. The country is modern, progressive, and most people are welcoming towards immigrants and the LGBT community. Nearly everyone speaks English fluently, which makes integration easier. However, the weather can be gloomy during winter, and the healthcare system can be challenging-GPs are often conservative with prescriptions and specialist referrals, tending to downplay issues until they become more serious. While Dutch people are polite, they can be reserved when it comes to socializing, but that’s not much of a problem since the expat community here is large and vibrant.

Lately a lot of russians are getting Romanian citizenship to be able to live and work in any EU country or just settle there (average wage ~2000€). Romania offers easy citizenship if you can provide documents of ancestry and there are many lawyers and companies in Russia that handle everything, including "finding" documents for a long lost relative (grand-grand mother for example) for ancestry. Bureaucracy can be incredibly frustrating with how slow it works and how many hoops you have to jump through and so on. I went through a permanent residency and then citizenship application for another country many years ago and it took years upon years, and required so many different applications, fees and different appointments and interviews. You just have to dig your heels in and be patient and follow every instruction to the letter. All in all the process took me about 42 months, but in the end I became a citizen and it was all worth it.
@solconcordia4315
@solconcordia4315 26 дней назад
The bureaucrats have laws, rules, and regulations to follow so yeah, it can indeed take quite a long time and a few give-or-takes to qualify. There were chest X-rays to take to guard against tuberculosis. My Mom had some foggy scar tissue revealed on hers so she had to be delayed for a repeated X-ray taken a month later. Then she had to be married to my Dad to establish the marriage relation (my Mom and Dad were actually arrange-married several decades ago *before* the Pearl Harbor attack) certified and *witnessed* by their adult offspring. 😂My Mom laughed about that but my parents duly married and came back with a marriage certificate signed by their son and a neighbor issued by the British Hong Kong Government. The American consulate recognized *British* marriage documents.

@@watt_the_border_collie You might’ve misunderstood my post because I probably sound very harsh trying to explain my point. I have absolutely no doubt Natasha is a wonderful human being. It shows in the way she speaks, the way she conducts herself, the way she lives her life and by the fact she moved away from the fascist federation and moved to Georgia. HOWEVER, she is NOT the norm. Not even close! The average russian IS a racist warmonger, that’s a fact. Pogroms, holodomor, mass murders, mass persecutions of anyone not Russian enough, not orthodox enough, not communist enough didn’t happen just because of some “politician” or leaders - it happened because the nation as a whole has been brainwashed into their victimhood and martyrdom mentality. I firmly believe that Nazi Germany - as horrific as it was - didn’t come even close to the atrocities committed by her absolutely despicable nation. ..and I’m talking about centuries of persecution. Whether under the Tzar, under the commissar and now under führer putin - the premise of russia has always been to persecute those who do not want to be part of the ruskyi mir. If only 10% of those russian refugees are Pütler’ites then we’re talking hundreds of thousands of ruski war criminals hiding all over Europe. That is why EU should not let ANY Russians in. They don’t deserve it.

Congratulations on your Visa! Regarding settling down in Europe: As a former German, I don't recommend it. High taxes and bureaucracy paired with mediocre infrastructure (including social services) and a rather antisocial mentality. I can't say anything about Portugal as I haven't been there yet. European countries I would put on the shortlist: Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway and Ireland. All have their pros and cons. Edit: As a youtuber, you may consider czech republic or other eastern countries as well due to your income situation. Most value for money, with some minor drawbacks. Good luck!

I would just say that in Czechia we are facing a housing crisis and the income to housing price ratio is very bad here. Other than that, yes I do like life here but it is a major drawback.

I have one visa story that is ancient and probably obsolete, but I'll tell it anyway. I had a relative visiting Detroit from Iran. She waited until her Visa expired before going in to ask for an extension. Turns out that was a big mistake. If she had gone in the day before it expired she could have got an extension but since she went in the day after it expired, we ended up having an adventure at the immigration office in Detroit. They actually had a mini courtroom to deal with the people whose visas were expired. Once they found out her visa had expired, they whisked us into the courtroom to start deportation proceedings. Somehow I managed to stop the deportation by going up the chain of command and threatening to seek political asylum. They gave her a 6-month extension and within that time she moved to Istanbul and eventually Germany.

@@NatashasAdventures if you get permanent residence in the EU you can travel as much as you want to other EU countries very easily for very little money/time then...or possibly move. Like, digital nomad to portugal and then apply to study in a university in berlin with your portuguese visa... One thing though, germany might take longer than other countries to allow citizenship (I suppose it's your long term goal) through residency (tipically 5 years but it seems germany is quite popular to russians...) A portuguese citizenship/passport would allow you to travel almost anywhere without visas like most other EU countries anyways....and live anywhere in the EU....

@@trthib all that sounds very reasonable and correct, until the country you "invested in" decides to leave the the EU. I think this possibility is worth taking into consideration and a look at the recent EU-elections can help to make some predictions. Between all the countries in the EU there is a range from 5,1% to 44,8% of people who voted for right-wing-populistic, right-wing-extremist or anti-democratic parties, who all aren't really fond of the very idea of Europe. Portugal voted only 9,8% and Germany 15,9% for the anti-EU-folks (and coincidently also anti-immigration-folks), although Germany, regarding resilience from right-wing ideology, has a litte "advantage" brought from his past. After writhing this I realized you Natasha already made a good choice with the two countries, but it may help others with their consideration. Source: Haven't found an English one, so one in German from the website of the state government of Baden-Württemberg must do the trick (I think a can't post links here, the name of the article is "Rechtsruck in Europa - Rechtspopulistische und rechtsextreme Parteien nach der Europawahl 2024")

Congrats for the Visa! Hope you enjoy your stay in the EU! For immigration, were is my 2 cents as a lawyer: you can get an Argentine passport just by living there for two years. Brazil is 4, Uruguay is 5. You don't need a visa to come as an Russian tourist and you do qualify for asylum. Mercosur countries are great for Russians - Montevideo, Buenos Aires or Florianópolis - amazing places, low cost of living, no prejudice against Russians (or immigrants in general) and far from any geopolitical drama. Learn spanish or portuguese, live here until you get the citizenship, and you will be an russian-argentinian or russo-brazilian with a very strong passport in a decent progressive democracy.

Safe journey, Natasha. I'm sure you are aware of this already but it's very important to keep track of the dates when entering and leaving different countries. Especially important now that a lot of countries have moved away from stamping the passport. A key piece of information for any future immigration-related applications. I learned it the hard way.
