Huge fan of candy corn, and a tip for you if you do this again: grind the candy into a powder. It works better because it's similar to the candy floss sugar you typically use for cotton candy.

They also sell a floss stabilizer you can put into the machine bowl to help catch the cotton candy. Interesting to see all of these become cotton candy.

My goodness! Thanks for this! I keep seeing cotton candy machines and they are advertising that you can use any hard candy in them! This would be a great way to enjoy some candies again that are difficult for me to eat. I love the caramel apple pops but cannot do suckers anymore. I wonder if red hots would work better than the waxy hot tamales!? Cinnamon candies are amazing. I make spicy cinnamon frostings for my sugar cookies now and eat them frozen. Now I want a cotton candy maker... hmm... but where to store such a thing!? Thanks Ro!

My mom would use any hard candy, an put them in a electric coffee grinder, an turn it into a more “sugar” consistency. So it takes the granulatedness away, and make it fluffy, an usually you use flossing sugar to make cotton candy. So I hope this helps, for next time!

hard candies work best (life savers, jolly ranchers and various novelty flavors of candy cane for the holidays), I too tried smarties at one point and they formed a burnt brown sludge that took forever to clean out of the cup in the middle. mint lifesavers are super minty and will mintify your whole kitchen. I hear good things about skittles though, so might give those a try soon.

They are! You can find the in any drug store around Halloween if you're in the US. I think Canada has them too but anywhere else you might need to try online.

Lol I was so confused when she said "smarties." I looked away and then looked back to see the candy she was using. In Canada, those are "rockets" and smarties are similar to M and M's but with a thicker candy coating around a piece of chocolate. Always interested in seeing different names for things ahha

at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffet.

hey ro, i have a small tip for Cotton candy I noticed that when you were doing the nerds the nerds kept flying out, The reason was because you’re supposed to turn it on and let it heat up and then turn it off and add your candy and then turn it back on! hope it helps 😊❤

As a pastry chef, as I think about it, unless it’s pure sugar, it won’t cotton candy. Especially if it has gelatin. That’s why flavored granulated sugar is used, and not a brick of something. Gelatin containing things would be to sticky to spin
