PART ONE: • I used HAIR GREASE on ...
Hey guys! Here's update 1 on experimenting with going back to old school methods for my natural hair. For those of you who may not know, I was natural for almost 18 years before getting my first relaxer going away to college. When the natural hair movement first blew up, people started encouraging us to let go of "grease" because it was clogging our pores and drying out hair out. After doing research on my own about the actual behavior (and benefits) of petroleum, I decided.. like all things... to test it out for myself before I actually completely dismiss it. I encourage you guys to do research it too if you're curious! I found a helpful article I'll link below!

Happy FINALLY FRIDAY cousins!!! 🙌🏾❤️🌻 How many of you make the “stank face” when you scrubbing that scalp and it start to feel to to ya! 😂🤣 Anyway... y’all... I was willing to see this experiment all the way through to the end even if it was a disaster because I committed to it... but I am SHOCKED I am actually liking it 😳 I linked a good blog post about the facts about petroleum in the DB for y’all! Don’t forget to check PART ONE if you haven’t already!

That's what I'm saying as well. Majority of us grew up on hair grease. People are scared to use it again in their hair. It's so funny to me. They think grease is going to make their hair fall out. The stuff they sell at the hair stores are not for us or by us. Hair grease is the answer to our hair texture. I love grease, never stopped using it.

Cousin my mother has been mixing greases for our hair since we were kids and she swears by it. My mother has been natural her ENTIRE life and has used hair grease her ENTIRE life and she has always been WL or longer. She just keeps it WL because she can't manage anything longer😂😂😂. She swears by it. I begged her for a perm when I got to middle school. I have been natural for a while now and she has been trying to get me to use her grease mixture for years but I'm a new age natural that thought grease would damage our hair...girl mama has has been using it for years...shampoo and all...doesn't know any of these new brands I talk about😂😂😂😂. I started listening to mama and growth just started happening. Grease is where it's at!

My bad y'all...my mom basically just mixes all of the Softee brand hair greases together (Indian herbal, coconut, mango butter, shea butter, bergamot...etc) literally all of them off the shelf. As the new ones come in she adds them. She mixes all of them together (adding tea tree oil and carrot oil) on the stove and keeps all of the containers. When she's done she pours it back into the containers and puts it into the freezer (or you can leave it out overnight...the freezer just does it quicker) to allow it to solidify again then she passes it out to all of us. Lol. I've started bk using it and my scalp has never felt better. I take lots of medications and thought for sure I'd loose so much hair...nope...my hair is flourishing. I'm finally getting past bra strap length... lol. Should have been listening to mama😂😂😂😂

I can’t use grease because my hair is very fine and I couldn’t stand the greasy feel and look. I’ve been doing olive oil since I went back natural. But I have friends that use it with thicker hair and I use it on their hair and it makes it SUPER soft. And I like the smell, it’s nostalgic from my braids and beads days as a child 😂♥️. Ohhhh let these secrets out... ive been eyeing that mango one for a few weeks because my "winter hair" dont love me no more and i need something that's better than yhe coconut oil since my job has me in a very cold department daily. My mother actually makes a grease that i'll use sometimes as a sealant for my hair. (It's not petroleum based, but beeswax based). I was just talking with my mother about how simple hair care routines were back in the day, without a whole lot of extra products, and everyone's hair grew. (She grew up in the 70s and 80s).

I never liked grease when i was younger and i still don't like oil/butters but i think the only time i like them is on stretched hair. But i have so much shea butter 🤦🏽‍♀️ more than i need and if i ever needed more, i can buy from nigerian female businesses. But i think there's nothing wrong with grease and it should be good for high porosity naturals too. I see grease in the same category as oils and butters, if you like one then the other does the same thing.

Quick Storytime like really quick. The last time I had grease in my hair my mom was trying to remoisturize my scalp and hair after having braids in it . I went to the salon the next day and basically the stylist assistant blamed the fact that my mom put grease in my hair to why my hair started smoking when she was blow drying it. But I think it was because she didn't wash it good enough because to my memory she had to go back again and after she actually put effort in washing my hair the grease was out of my hair. This whole thing made me think of that lol

Priya Dionne lol hmm. That’s crazy! lol I used to be a “press and curl” natural for like 10 years (after K5) and I know for a fact I had a lot of grease used in my hair and my hair was fine lol She probably definitely didn’t wash it good enough 😂❤️

I feel like people are missing the point. Hair grease is GREASY. Yes, our folks used it on our hair, even when other options were available. There is no harm in exploring other options -- particularly less greasy ones. Not all of want tospend all day washing grease off our hands after reaching up to scratch our scalp. If anything, we have informed choices now, which is better than what we had growing up.

Who is missing this point though?

@@FinallyAmber those who act as if shifting away from the use of hair grease was some act of treason. Hair grease is GREASY, stains clothing and pillowcases and encourages acne.

But again... who is that here? Because nobody said that on my channel lol Either in the video or in the comments.

@@FinallyAmber If the comments weren't there I wouldn't have posted my initial statement. I have watched countless RU-vid videos that cover the use of hair grease and the comments critical of defection from the use of hair grease are LEGION. If you don't see them you don't see them. But they are certainly there.

Again.... you’re missing the entire question that I asked you. WHO SAID THAT ... HERE. I’m not talking about what you saw somewhere else. I’m talking about what I’ve said on my channel and presented in this video. The point is... you made this general (condescending might I add) sweeping statement in your first comment that implied that “people” are missing the point. I clearly am not pissing the point you’re trying to make because 1) I truly... and I mean truly... couldn’t care less about what someone else puts in their head and whether or not they choose to use grease. The point of this video was ME... trying it out again and not having a problem with it. So 2) I can’t address, miss or hit a “point” I personally was never trying to make. Do you understand me now? My point is that no one HERE on Finally Amber’s channel said it was an “act of treason” to give up grease. Clearly I don’t feel like it is if the whole ACTUAL point of my video was that I had in fact stopped using it for years and I was trying it again. If you don’t understand this, you can see the 🚪
