I got this car out of a barn in Sarasota about 2 years ago. I'm a little rusty working on these older Japanese cars and I don't know much about this one so let's see what we can get done here! These cars were fantastic back in the day. #nissan #z31 #300zx #classic #willitrun #greasebellygarage

Yeah it's in decent condition. It's been sitting since I made that video but I'm going to be getting on it pretty soon.

Did you just fresh gas into it? What do you recommend if I buy one that’s been sitting for a long time? Drain the gas and replace fuel pump? Do you think I need to replace the timing belt, injectors, and spark plugs?
@greasebellygarage
@greasebellygarage Год назад
Yes I recommend doing everything that you list unless you're just testing the engine to see if it runs which is essentially what I was doing because I had never heard it run myself. I poured a couple of gallons of fresh gas in it to only see if the fuel pump would run which it did not but the fresh gas will help clean up any varnish in the bottom of the tank. The fuel pump on this car is not working and pretty much any EFI car that sits for longer than a year is going to have a fuel pump issue. I will probably start this project by cleaning the tank and replacing the pump first and then running the engine long enough to warm it up to change the fluids and then start doing the vacuum lines checking the turbo timing belt etc. It's always good to test the engine first before you go spending a lot of money. You may have a broken timing belt already and not realize it. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching my video.

Nice looking Z. All you need is a watch to talk to it and pick you up at the front door....worked for M. Knight 😆

Yeah this is a really cool car and it's a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I had originally considered parting it out when I got it....

Hello, I'm a highschooler looking at a red 84 300zx turbo to buy just like the one you have. I am fairly experienced with cars having working on them in the past, what should the first things I check for be when buying/after I buy?
@greasebellygarage
@greasebellygarage 8 месяцев назад
It depends on how long it's been sitting. Really. You need to look for wiring, damage, fuel tank problems, fuel pump for sure and whatever maintenance is required on that engine. I can't remember if it has a timing belt or not. And look for rust on all cars but it can be sneaky on Japanese cars. I'll be honest with you. I just go with my gut. If my gut tells me the car is good then I go for it. If I get a bad vibe I walk away.

@greasebellygarage what if it's in good condition but had 200k miles
@greasebellygarage
@greasebellygarage 3 месяца назад
@vlifex259 I think you're okay just check the important things. The one in this video has over 200,000 mi on it. Just have it looked over really good by a mechanic if you need to and see if you can document any maintenance history. 1980s Japanese cars are extremely good cars! Parts can be expensive for these though so make sure you get it checked.

@vlifex259 One more thing the engine computers are the most troublesome part of these cars and they're getting kind of hard to find. Make sure you check that over drive it for a good distance on the test drive make sure it doesn't stall or do anything weird

I had one when I was 17. Same silvery blue color. It had a gremlin for sure but wow was it cool. It set in someone’s garage for a long time and still had the window sticker. Sold it for very little when I got out of high school like an idiot.

Oh if we could all go back in time and undo some of the dumb car decisions that we did. Mine was a Buick Grand national that I sold in 2018. Beautiful car with 34,000 original miles now. It's worth like three times what I sold it for and I really miss that car. Thank you for watching my video!
