Has anyone owned both a 4runner and land cruiser? If so, let me know which one you liked best and why!

very different vehicles. Both cool rigs though. If cost is not the factor, Landcruiser wins for me every time.

I own both, 2 built 3rd gen runners and a 97 lx450, I love the 4runners but I like the landcruiser more interior room and cab room which is better for sleeping in the back aswell as taking the dogs around, more of a beast, way heavier duty, more comfortable, about same mpg lol, easier to work on, 80 series for me! lol. But I will keep them both. For road trips the runner, the around town both are about the same but runner is easier but for smiles the FJ.

Landcruisers are built better and more capable, owned both.

I own both, LC is built more hardcore but 4runner is a bit easier for a long trips on the highway but a rougher ride.

We own a 1997 4X4 4Runner, a 2000 2X4 4Runner, a 1996 Lexus LX450 triplelock (80 Series LandCruiser). We have other vehicles but the Toyotas are well worth every penny we have ever put in them. The 4X4 was on it's way to the scrap yard and we bought it. We restored everything. It has over 300,000 miles on it. The 2x4 has 197,000 miles and is in new condition front to back. The Lex' has over 500,000 miles. She sat abandoned in a mud hole for years with a front wheel off. The Lex is now back to daily driver status and on any 80 series Land Cruiser you have to take the EGR valve off, clean the carbon out of the passages and reinstall the EGR valve. This will add new life to the engine and years to the longevity of the vehicle. Marlin Crawler makes a heavy duty front axle shaft seal for the 80 series that keeps the differential fluid and the front wheel bearing grease separate so you don't get wheel bearing failure. We own 3 4x4 vehicles and an 80 Series LandCruiser is the Gold Standard in off-roading, without a doubt. Worth every penny you ever put in them. They go up in value every year. They are tough, reliable, dependable, rebuildable and heavy duty. They don't just sit in your driveway either. They pose. I still stop when I walk by and just look at the 80 Series as if she was new.

Really? You paid storage fees for 12 years to hold a vehicle? That's crazy most people would have sold it or their family would have. What does that for miles on it??

Good score! I picked up my 97 lx450 in mint condition from a salvage yard for a grand, good paint no rust. Only thing that was wrong with it was the stereo had been yanked lol. Started right up and have been driving it ever since, installed a lift, 35's, raptor lined it, retrofit headlights, brush guard, still work in progress but love it! Wish mine was triple locked but its not, but did the diff lock switch so far.

Great video, I can't believe that guy backed into it and didn't give you a huge discount. I've been looking for a diesel 60 series for a long time, I've always loved 60's and 80's series land cruisers

Yeah but he is a character if you know what I mean lol. But I love 60s series land cruisers but their prices are getting pretty unattainable for me these days. Maybe you’ll find a good deal one day. There’s a lot on Copart for decent prices, no diesels though that I’ve seen.

I just bought an 80 back in April, really similar. Locked, green 97. Offroad only since 2011 and "mechanic owned" so I found some interesting fixes. It was running with a twig in one of the vacuum lines and a little red straw(from a spray can) JB welded in the little hose on top of the radiator. Had a 3 inch body lift, "custom" front bumper to match the body lift and the rear bumper was cutoff after the rear most body mount and the hitch was welded in its place. A nice dent in the rocker from before he welded on sliders and a straight piped exhaust going on top of the frame. Tires from 2002, missing 8 lug nuts. I saw the GA plates and the green fender, there's a chance we used the same parts truck in the Atlanta area. Since April, I've cleaned a metric shit ton of mud from underneath the truck, wire wheeled everything and painted the frame and components. From the parts truck I cut off the rocker, rear part of the frame/bumper, got the rear upper and lower control arms, rear stabilizer bar, transfer case cross member and a few more odds and ends. Chopped the exhaust and sliders to remove the 3 inch body lift, removed the custom front bumper and replaced with a 94 front bumper. 2.5" OME lift. Slee stabilizer drops, transfer skid and rear locker skid. Replaced the crank seal, oil pump seal, valve cover gasket and spark plug o-rings, new plugs and wires, distributor cap and o ring, oil cooler gaskets, valve and springs, oil pressure sensor and harness. All new vacuum and cooling lines, thermostat and gaskets/o-rings, water pump. New exhaust from the exhaust manifold back. Sound deadening and heat proofing. Still got a pile of parts and new carpet that I need to put in. Sorry for the long ass list, just trying to stay motivated. Thing hasn't run in a few months and I've used 2 cases of brake clean so far, I'm scared to start it. Check out www.ih8mud.com/ if you're not already on there, absolute-wits-end.com/ to burn your money and www.toyotapartsdeal.com/ to burn some more. Compared to my 1st gen Tacoma, this thing lights money on fire.

They definitely do cost a ton to work on. The same parts for my 4runner are 3 times more for the landcruiser. The parts truck I used was in Dublin ga. It sounds like after all that work you have a pretty nice rig on your hands!

@@ramenbuilt6411 wasn't the same one then. Haha it still looks like a piece but it's getting there. LC tax is real, gotta look for things that fit. Just got a 96 LS400 steering wheel, windshield visor and metal door handles. Got some foglight switches for a 90s Rav4 because they fit the slots, probably will get a CDL switch as well. Most everything is LC only though so getting Aisin or Denso parts is the same as Toyota. The water pump had "Toyota" grinded off and replaced with an Aisin sticker.
