Really great work rebuilding that distributor and finding the solenoid. That is a pretty nice machine you used to check out the distributor. I have been rebuilding VW distributors from as is ones I find on ebay take two and rebuild one good one like you did. Thanks for sharing and yeah I am a ford guy
What a great video for us old gear heads . a cup of coffee , a pointy and watching the video makes for a really nice day ! . this is what makes RU-vid so enjoyable . Thanks to all of the Agents in Canada ! . Thank You neighbor . Ray in Pa U.S.A.
My grand father bought 53 ford custom line brand new but his was a light blue with a blue cloth interior. He owned his for about 2 years then traded that in for a brand new 55 Oldsmobile 88 2 door. The 53 ford and the 55 Oldsmobile were the best and prettiest cars he ever owned. He now has 2003 Chevy Silverado Diesel 2500 with only 50,000 miles that he bought new also, has never seen rain, snow, etc. I see if I can post a video of his truck so you can see it cause I know you'll really like it and so would the agents. Cheers from Michigan!!!
I can't say how much We Appreciate your videos you're always the highlight of the day whenever I have one of yours videos waiting to watch. make sure you throw a Stella a doggy treat for us
Hey thanks for saying so, and yes, Stella gets all the treats she can handle... I recently discovered that she is hoarding them but I can't really say anything, given my own tendencies, haha...
HaHa...the last time i used one of those machines was in trade school in 1971. I used to crank it up to see how many RPMs it would take before the points started to bounce. My instructor was impressed with me...{:-( A little grease on the rubbing block helps the points last longer.
(Very Brief) Ode To Ford, Circa MCMLIII Oh Flathead One, sing thou to me Of bygone paths thy reverie... When swift flew thou on ancient roads, Of oil pan drips and flattened toads. "Ford guys" indeed of Exner smirks... Antipathy toward shit that works? Arise, dear steed and shush this noise; Thou art fond dream of men and boys. The Unknown Poet Formerly Known As The Unknown Poet (A Ford Guy)
Thanks for the note! I do love the old distributor tester; nice to put the distributor in the engine and know that it is ready to go and you won't be fiddling with it trying to figure out if it's set up correctly...Cheers from us here!
LOVING this one so far. I have a REAL attachment to a 1953 Ford. My first car was a '53 Ford Ranchwagon. Dark blue two door beast which was given to me when I was 14 1/2. The thing had sat parked under an oak tree for seven or eight years. It took my dad,(with a little help from me) less than an hour to fire that old flathead up again. Maybe one of the reasons I love this channel so much?
Wow...never knew they even made those distributor testing machines....always timed the points it the old fashion way on the car....first static, w/ piston @ TDC with wired light on points open, then by timing light..and finally by ear adjustment, for optimal ranged of idle and speeds.....which basically undo-s the running-timing light setting.
Man that flathead just sounds like it wants to run again. As a Ford fan myself this one looks like it's in pretty good shape. Can't wait for parts two and three!
Old Things Are great when people take the time to keep then in use... Every thing in this world is not disposable... I t has use to some one some where. NICE work ......
great video! and nice work!! if you need any 53 parts let me know, a guy in the car club I'm member of has about 9 of then he tore all apart to build one car... His barn his full of parts!!!
Well, that a very generous offer! All I really need for this 53 is the bullet in the grille... I don't know where you are though... I'd hate to find out that the shipping cost twice what the part was worth, haha! Cheers!
GREAT to see more videos out already ! Keep it Goin man. I find it fascinating to see the whole process of everything which needs to be dealt with to make these cars live again. VRRROOOM
coldwarmotors OK well Great. I'll have to celebrate that of course. I'll just load up This monster for breakfast then/Hit that gong. glub glub glubbley glubble glubble ~Hi from the UK = ) (may contain a spelling error.)
Another great video. Thanks for showing the distributor machine. Real cold war type stuff!! It's great to see another "will it run" video and a "classic tire" segment tucked in at the end. Stella looks very tidy with her new do!!
Great fun had by all here...so cool to always include Stella ...so clever she is. Oh ....I thought you would see the centrifuge advancing ...unless the weights are seized or the springs too strong ...hmmm....Awesome machine ...Cheers Alberta Dave
Hi! I thought the same, but these distributors don't actually have a centrifugal advance, just the vacuum. That's one of the reasons why the conversion to a SBC or Mallory distributor is so popular. Cheers from me and my girl Stel!
Another great project and a great car, I'm looking forward to this series. I'm glad you're putting out more vids now....there's a lot of interest in this channel, and with more vids, it's going to grow.
My dad had one years ago, it ran and drove, but it spent most of it's time sitting in the yard/woods, she was surface rusted, but she started with a key, we called it the mousetrap growing up due to all of the mice found in it. It was a 53 or 54 with the same color as this but she was a four door
Awesome old ford, love how huge the old test equipment was. I paused it so I could read some of the directions, they made sense unlike today. I like picking up tips that I use on my fleet of classic clunkers. Stella knows shes regal. Have a great Fall.
This is the car I've been waiting for you to get running I like the flat head Ford V8s especially when the hotrod stuff is applied, they have a cool sound all their own.Wish I was there.
I had to watch this again. I am an equal opportunity old car guy as long as it's cool and some version of a USA made car . The Pontiac Beaumont is way cool but the Citroen and Renault LeCar wa wa wa, doesn't make it. All the other s speak to me. Patiently waiting for round 2. Thanks!
Dude, this is AWESOME! My old man had parked a '52 Customline at the back of our farm, sometime in the late 60s. It sat for 15 years, slowly returning to the Earth, before I came along and got it running well enough to bomb around the yard. Lawn mower gas tank resting on the hood, dumping gas directly into a very leaky carb, no brakes except the emergency brake, no muffler, loud as fuck. Yours is a minty creampuff compared to what I had-- the floors and door sills were completely gone, and neighborhood delinquents had smashed every single window, except the rear wraparound. I can still smell the rotting interior. I can't wait to see you get this thing going!
No mechanical advance in those distributors?? Unique sound a flathead starter makes. Love that sound!! Attractive body style on this Tudor. How solid is the body??
I have a question, what do use the Gibbs brand for to tune up the solenoid and the spark plugs? I like to learn tips from your video's because you guys seem to know some great tips, thanks.
Well, we could, but these engines are only going to the mailbox and back, and in most cases they will need full rebuilds anyway, so dropping the pan would add lots of hours and not really make any difference on a car that is not anywhere near going on the road. Cars like the Frazer that are getting plated receive the whole tuneup and flush treatment with new fluids throughout. Hi from Stel!
Dear Stella’s inquisitive expressions! Such a sign of intelligence and interest... “what’s he up to this time? No good?... I expect so”. I see it coming with Frankers too. What great dogs!
