Obsession Engineering and Marvel HCL Motorsport are building a Superstock Fireblade for our racing protege Franco Bourne.
There's a date looming for the dyno and the Marvel Superstock build hasn't run yet. So Dave is working overtime to get the bike finished and ready for inspection by the Honda Racing boys!
If you'd like to be involved in the journey with us, to bring on racing's next star rider, please email team boss Matt at

What a great insight to the detail of taking a stock bike and building it to race specification. Hope you didn't have to waste too much of your day re-editing the video. Thanks Dave.

Suggest It might be good to mark the three connectors above the gearbox with three colours of paint corresponding to 3 similar marks on the crankcase so when you have to do an engine change it goes back the same way, similarly for the leads you crossed above the airbox

Spectacular! Been following your channel for over a year now and keep a fresh nice video for every other morning :)) For this one, I have a question that nobody seems to have an answer to... I see you are using 300v, as I am (in an s1000r). How long are your change intervals for the 300v, on street use? Cheers, and keep it up!!!
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering Год назад
Road use I'd change it at normal service intervals, say 6000 miles. On track I change it at 500 miles

Don't forget to lock-wire the chain to the sprocket.... PS I'll never have a bike like this because it'll never work for me due to the 'Anti-Jerk stuff'.... 😮

why don't you use waterless coolant?
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering Год назад
I read its actually less efficient at cooling, its expensive and no real advantage as our cooling system is new and has no issues with pressure
@LasseJOugaard
@LasseJOugaard Год назад
Question Dave; I know sod all about racebikes - I've only raced in cars. Why would you want to reduce the steering lock? Is it simply to protect the tank and bodywork, in case he throws it in the litter?
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering Год назад
If it tank slaps it reduces how violent it gets, and stops levers and controls hitting bodywork if you're changing bar positions
@markchisholm2657
@markchisholm2657 Год назад
Trying to work out why the drive sprocket is wired. Do you go in reverse a lot? Given the rotation of the engine it's impossible for the bolt to unwind.
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering Год назад
I've known them unwind before. Guessing the deceleration force could unlock it

Why it will run on water only not coolant, what about the water pump, it’s made from some spacial material, just asking, I thought the coolant it’s to not freeze the system and to lubricate the water pump. Nice 💥 blade well done 👍 cheep posting 😊
@LasseJOugaard
@LasseJOugaard Год назад
Because of safety primarily. Coolant is really slippery if it leaks onto the track, possibly causing further accidents. Also straight water is actually better at cooling because it has a higher specific heat capacity than glycol or alcohol. It's true that coolant also lubricates and rust inhibits, but an engine like this will be rebuilt long before any of those things will pose a problem...
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering Год назад
Racing rules don't allow anything except water. The glycol in antifreeze is slippery and difficult to clean up if it gets on the track

Good day....off topic question in regards to this video. Watched some of your rebuild vids on the S1000RR, I'm Rebuilding a 2012 at the moment and in need of 10 new crank bolts, found the conn rod and head bolts on the Beemer site but can't locate the Crank bolts. If you can direct me as to where I can buy these it would be much appreciated.... thanks

What’s the reason for reduced lock stops Davie ?
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering Год назад
Reducing the violence of tank slappers and with the bars, levers, etc in non standard positions it stops things hitting the fairing or dash
