Well,Rob, I gotta give you credit, you have a lot of patients to do what you have done intros video.......good for you....enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing.
You old trash grabber you - I am envious of the amount of stuff you find - rare to find any goodies by the road round here. That plug - what a disaster area. Recoil starts - oh yes - had to deal with mine on that little HF one i just worked on. Hope this one will fire up eventually.
I pick up an old Honda EM500 Generator for $30 at a garage sale, it was non working got it going. My pull start wouldn't recoil back in so instead of pulling it apart I just sprayed WD - 40 in the mechanism and worked it a few times and that Fixed it.
Nice find Rob, but I think it's a good candidate for just the scrap copper though, but keep going, still interesting. BTW, have anEX1000, bought new 30 years ago, 120vAC +12vDC, still purrs like a kitten.
Probably a reverse thread nut on the pull string section I hope you get it going because I was recently given the same generator a few months ago and haven't been bothered to check it out yet.
No, it's definitely a right hand thread. The bolt is deliberately made a very tight fit and has a bronzed film on the end to act as self locking. I couldn't budge it even with a breaker bar. Good luck with yours. Cheers Rob
G'day Rob I never tire of watching you fixing up things you fine on the side of the road. I have a self propelled mower with a FJ180 Kawasaki engine on it, it's in really good condition looks like new, but after having it for five years she won't start I have tried everything, oil change, spark plug and cleaned out the carbie, I wish I could get it over to you for you to tinker with it. I am left with getting rid of it for scrap bloody pity. Anyway Rob good to see you again John
Hi John, Small engines can be frustrating to diagnose at times. You just have to walk through the possibilities. Next step would be to check compression level. Must be more than 110 psi to run. I always try to include basic fault finding/isolating comment in these videos so viewers can tackle the same thing. Big clues and usual causes are: Dry spark plug after pulling over = blocked main jet, fuel blockage, carby needle and seat stuck Wet plug = float level too high, air filter blocked Oily plug = rings bad No spark = bad plug, coil pack bad Low compression = rings bad, valve bad, decompression valve stuck open No fuel in carby bowl = fuel filter in tank blocked Those are the basics. Cheers Rob
Also check the primer bulb is OK as they can have a small split and not work. Remove the spark plug, dump a bit of fuel in the cylinder and see if it fires with full throttle and no choke.
