Part 1 - • CAN WE FIX IT? RARE HY... Can we fix it? A Westwood lawn tractor fitted with a twin cylinder air cooled diesel engine by Ruggerini. Thank you to my Patrons / daggerwin
He says it as it should be said, I don't know what planet you are on unless you are in the United Sewer of America where nothing is said or spelt properly.
@@ctiley2212 Didn't your parents teach you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all? Just a light hearted joke, no need to get all butt hurt. Sheesh.
Outstanding job on the restoration! We don't see too many "green gassers" (diesel) here in America, so this was a treat for me. Thanks for sharing, and Happy Christmas to you and your family mate!
I love problem engine videos and this one was right up my alley. Horizontal engine converted to vertical picked up my attention and the amount of oil had me thinking the scavenger pick up for the dry sump was my initial thought. Seeing the cross hatching in the bore it was obvious to me that somebody had recently rebuilt it and since it was converted to vertical I was believing that they had missed something. Your rebuild went well even though I did not see you check the new ring gap. It was pleasing to see the injectors in top condition. The start up was fine and the smoke produced seemed normal but don't forget that the muffler could also be full of oil that will take a few runs to get it hot enough to burn off. The question of an intermittent oil check valve or scavenger pick up will always be there but at least you are aware enough to check for that. Thank you for an interesting video series. I'm looking forward to see your attempt to get a cutting deck on it. I grinned at your comments and my mind saw rusted panels so how about some welding practice. Hey what else is there to do during Covid!
Now that you mentioned the sound of the engine it made me wonder: does all the build up inside the engine (soot, carbon) change the sound of the engine? Like say it wasnt hydro locked, would the pre-cleaned engine have sounded differently to the current version of it?
they are an extremely loud engine, my father has a Lincoln welder with a Ruggerini air cooled in it, most job sites wont allow it anymore because of the noise
Very nice work! I would love to have this mower. I'm a lover of diesel engines. However the new ones with all the emissions junk. I'll pass on. That's what makes this one all the more desirable! 👍👍
@@catsbyondrepair yes, newer zero turn mowers 0ver 48", but few smaller, belly deck riding mowers like this one. i've never seen a 36"-42" cut mower with a diesel engine. i'm not saying they don't exist, just that they are rare.
Hi mate brilliant series and great little tractors. I've just brought one myself and need to replace the starter motor. Could I ask where you managed to find one.
If you give a Lombardini (/Ruggarini) engine some TLC it will go forever! See old 2-wheeled tractors, engines for stationary use as water-pumps or like Amazone Profihopper mowers.
This is first time I've seen a diesel Rider torn down. Very interesting! Thanks so much.. an awesome video series on this unit! Please provide an update if you experience any future issues.
If don't want smoke add 100 ml of Automatic transmission Dexron 2 or 3 type to fuel tank full and or a grey bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection cleaner in fuel tank every 3 months worth in fuel tank too!
Man what a great sound...little diesel engine is just chugging along happily! Very cool! Once the assembly lube and stuff burned off it turned out to be a great little engine and mower! Great job!
Great series,it really runs sweet and drives well too ,just got to get a deck for it and it will be a really nice lawn tractor, great work Daggerwin ,hope you have a great Christmas 👍👍
This is beautiful engine. Very enjoyable to watch. Now to make it useful. Where is the mower deck? Also with a tiny turbocharger if this unit can be fitted with a pto it could be used for moving grain on the farm with an auger. Not sure if they came with a pto or not but it needs have one. Good work and I think the previous owner just did not understand the scavenge tank or other operation thus over filling and nearly ruining the engine. That could be all the coke buildup. A wonder the engine never ran away and destroyed itself with all that free oil.
It not first Deisel engines I heard little knock on them before also heard on farm tractors and other bigger Desiel motor say it just warm up and clear up after use for 30 mins or more!
🤨 😯 How does the cooling work? Did it get hot, as the air filter is on top of the cylinders the cover directs the air to the side, missing the cylinders and we could see it blowing the grass under the front chassis. I assume a plate is not fitted that directs the air through the engine and out the other side?
Hello my friend am hoping you can help me I have just brought one of these and am wondering where the oil filter is on this engine I know where the air filter and pretty sure where the fuel filter is but not the oil filter hope you can help me out thanks aobert
If you apply the deductive logic of Occam's Razor, you'll probably reach the conclusion that the previous owner over-filled it with oil.... User error is a very common occurence :)
That’s a nice running little Diesel. Like a lawnmower version of 3 cylinder KUBOTA DIESEL in the states. As someone commented take it to the tractor pulls with a set of tractor groove tires/tyres. Merry Christmas from Silverstreet South Carolina USA 🇺🇸
I figured the smoking was excess oil... I bet the muffler was oily inside too. Glad to see it working again. I always find repair videos encouraging, because I fix stuff too, and sometimes you just need to stick with it and see it through.
