My S40 was the first I ever owned too. Orange and black. I rode her as my main transport for 3 years until she was stolen. 6 years later, the cops found her, still in good shape. My uncle has her stored. Even though I ride a sport bike now, I can't wait to pick her up and restore to her former glory. Your video is super inspiring.

I bought an ‘04 Savage that had not been started in 7 years. Carb rebuild, new fuel, new battery. Later new petcock valve. She’s running great.

Just got my 2004 that wasn’t started for 12 years running. Same problems, carb, petcock, battery. Cleaned everything including the gas tank. New gas and it fired up immediately. Running like new now because it is new, only 53 miles on the clock.

@@PJ-SC that’s great! I hope you have many beautiful and safe miles together. I put new tires on her a few weeks ago.

The water came quit simply FROM THE ETHANOL in the old gasoline... Always use ethanol free if you plan to storing any of your engines

Try using Heet (yellow bottle) to soak your carb in for three days and you’ll be surprised at just how much gunk you’ll pull out of your carb. Its the cheapest solution you’ll find on the market and it’s the least evasive product on the market when it comes to etching. It’s totally an amazing barnyard mechanics trick.

Thanks I actually have some of that. I’ve used it before and had good results

If it’s been sitting for 13 years I would think about going ahead and rebuilding the carbs. You could be fighting it not running right till you do. Running lean like that will more than likely blue up your chrome exhaust pipes. Really not that much to rebuilding a carb. Heck you can probably find a video showing you how to do it. Best of luck to you!👍🏻

Make sure you add extra ZDDP before starting. You can get zddp from your local auto zone.

It was nice to see that bike crank up. :) They don't make em' like that anymore. Great video! I'm currently looking at a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 that's been sitting for a while. I'm not much of a mechanic but for $700 I'm strongly considering it. The owner moving is the only reason he's selling. Needs it gone quick.

Believe it or not, The Suzuki Savage hasn't changed anything since they first came out in the 80s! The only difference in an old one and a new one is: mileage and the name Savage is now called an S40

hello Paul nice video. I would pour some seafoam into the gas tank it works well for me. I agree the brake piston is probably rusted in place take apart and clean and replace with new brake fluid and I bet that takes care of the brake. Were any mice beds or stuff in the air filter? at that many years the filter paper might be breaking down.
@WilliamsonRidge

Thanks. I may try some seafoam I went out this evening and it fired right up. It’s keeps getting better. Surprisingly enough no mice in the air filter, I am going to change it though just to be sure it doesn’t pull any junk in.

My battery died from leaving the key in the on position for too long, where on earth is the positive terminal so I can jump it? Thank you!
