Man I tell ya seeing you both there playing around with the D2 sure does make me miss my dad and step dad. Wish i could have had more memories like that with my dads. Live it up Squatch and Squatch Sir. Great video, i always enjoy seeing you guys work and having fun together.
Yessir my Dads been gone 31 yrs now, and darn if it don’t take a peek in his Machinest box, smell that old cutting oil and look at his tools he made w his name stamped on the handle. Prayerfully I’ll remember “all” the good stuff he taught me in the 41 yrs he tried to teach me “the right way”
The little I've seen your dad in videos, he was downright giddy when you handed him the keys to his new machine complete with a Squatch guarantee warranty for any future repairs.
I laughed at the part where you handed over the “key”. I normally expect a “will it start” video to be throwing in batteries, giving it a snort of ether and seeing what happens, but your “will it start” video is Right, Correct, and Proper.
You are a "right and proper stand up son." :-) I have absolutely no experience with a Cat starting engine but as a rule, it is not advised to wrap any starting rope around your hand in case of a backfire. A wood dowel is preferred on the end so it will readily slip out of your hand in case of a backfire rather than ripping some skin off your hand. No, I am not a safety Nazi, just experience talking. :-)
Senior drove that crawler like he’d been on one before! That is a nice unit. Good luck with it. Looking forward to finding out why the oil in the fuel pump was messed up.
You mentioned in the last video about getting back on X231 once 5J1113 is done. This guy here is definitely looking forward to more Minneapolis Moline content. Wouldn't mind seeing X253 getting out and stretching her legs again, too.
Easy startup on the starting motor. Desiel sounds awesome. Sr. Looks natural in the seat, almost like he was born to run a D-2 crawler, nice!!! Thanks for sharing.....
Definitely a well preserved machine. I would check the inside of the air cleaners just for a good measure. But if senior likes it then nothing really I can add to it.
This D2 seems to be in good condition. Starting the starting motor with one pull is pretty impressive and the diesel engine runs smooth. I have been learning a lot from your videos , I have a 1956 D4 7u series I am hoping to get it up and running again.
Thanks for showing the right way to precheck the crawler before starting . Lots of attention to detail. Learning a great deal from you. Am very interested in finding a d2 for my kids.
Thanks for sharing sounds like a great running 2 good to see Sr out I’m sure everyone would love to see you and Sr working on this to get it how he wants it
Great video; yep Senior climbed aboard and took off like he wrote the book on that procedure, garden looks great and the yard is kept nice and tidy. First pull start ? Wow , I’m impressed 😃
As someone who drives John Deere two cylinder tractors frequently, it always gets me to see pulling the throttle lever toward you to increase speed, and pulling the clutch lever toward you to engage it. These old Cats are backwards, haha…
That D2 might be the best one you guys have bought. I'm glad you happened upon it. Good luck with the machine. It's good to see you guys working with the machine.
I had the great pleasure to have my dad help with my excavation business. We had a new D6C, dozer and ripper and a 46A D8, dozer and ripper. Dad liked the D6 best. Dad said working together with these machines was the best time of his life. Enjoy your dad, life is short.
Love your enthusiasm for those old tractors. Thanks for the tutorial on steering clutch adjustment I need to do that on my 2J that I recently acquired.
Anything I know about Cats is what I've picked up from this channel an boy that D2 to me seems sweet as a nut 👌 great to see Senior at the controls an the smile he had at the end spoke volumes 😁 great video 👍👍
Man senior’s gonna have some great quality time with that beauty for sure! She purr’s like a new kitten! That’s one great purchase you got there! Looking forward to what you’re going to be doing for her next!👌😎👍great video Squatch!
will it run???? of course it does, you just rebuilt one and knew what to look at. :) the best was Senior beaming smile when first took.the controls by the barn. Stone face and grin a mile wide.
You took very good care of your father by locating this and I read that water in the oil could build up if it was parked in a humid wet location and not started for a while.
Pretty garden! Looks like ya'll are eating good. Now you know your next move is going to have to be taking over manufacturing replacement parts for these. You are becoming the go-to guy for this stuff.
My dad was the inspiration for a good portion of the old heavy rusty iron stuff I mess with. Unfortunately he wasn't interested participating. Something about having too much fun in life was morally suspect. Depression ww2 era upbringing I suppose. You and your dad don't have that problem. Keep it up. Enjoy all the time you can. 🙂
What i find hilarious is after all the blood sweat, tears and gears of 5J, just as you wrap it up, you just stumble across this one. Some people get all the luck! Also, Ill have a vid for ya in a couple days - a triple tap walk around for ya.
One other thing maybe of interest to sqwach being a cat enthusiasts, David holt, great grandson of Bengiman holt founder of caterpillar tractor did a cat magazine article featuring my dad and myself working on a job building a camping facility for merced irrigation Co in California. What an honor that was to be chosen for the article.
i have to say squatch it not a video will run but it does run and how good can we make it into a very nice machine. you have move to work with on this than you did on the 1113 that for sure. love the videos and look for them all you make.
I'll never own a caterpillar tractor. However, you make these things interesting. I came for information on my '41 H and stayed for the great content! May I post a link to my 1958 Plymouth which is my current project?
Nice tractor. Thought about just returning it to/retaining it in original condition? Would be a good ag tractor for those plowing demos/running a thresher etc. Probably retains the ag gearing in the gear box? You've got all the bits, and know how...
For the #5U7968 your showing, the ejection pump that was white, would there be a tell tale smell that would give a clue as to where the water originated from, cooling or rain in much the same as diesel fuel in crankcase oil?
