I travel for work and I’m in Virginia. We have a company hauling off contaminated dirt for us. One of the drivers has a slick 389 day cab but it’s got a paccar. Low and behold he tells me he watches your channel and has a C-15 and wants to use the rebuild kit you use. You have fans far and wide amigo. Keep up the good work!
I appreciate your time to educate people on my favorite engine. You maybe young, but your experience and knowledge of Cat engines is very impressive. I know you will always have work building these engines. It's the high quality and detail, which impress your customers, and your viewers. Just being honest from what I have seen. Not trying to blow smoke, I see quality in your work. Your blunt honesty is refreshing.
For those who are unfamiliar, to clarify the keeping it under control at 150k lbs, there’s certainly a reason why they’re called wiggle wagons, and it’s not only because they’re articulated
Something tells me we will see the biggest three wheeler driving around soon. 465 hp three wheeler. I agree there was one pump still working fine. Hopefully transmission works good for future videos before it looses its power plant. Thanks again for videos. Always fun to watch. I would love to get my hands on some of the Detroit’s you have.
That hydraulic tank appears to be empty! The master of stating the obvious has returned. I laughed most of the way through this the first time we’ll done my friend another great video 🇬🇧
She might actually appreciate what he is doing. Reduce, reuse, recycle also includes repairing old technology because thats better for the environment than manufacturing new one. What works for an IPhone, applies also to big earthmoving equipment. Of course she'd rather that those machines wouldn't be used at all, but I think shes fairly clever and reasonable.
Reminds me of that town that a guy was spraying dioxin on the roads and it made the whole town sick and they ended up abandoning the whole town due to contamination.
I remember my dad telling me back in the day when his dad ran a paving company that was a regular thing during the summer oiling down gravel and the berms of the roads
Half is better than nothing ... Thanks for bringing it to us ,i always enjoy your content very much .. Lookin foward to the next. Respect from Down Under
When I saw that hyd line dumping, I said to myself, you're in clean up mode now. Then you said the exact see thing! When I fight a starting system like you did, I'll run a lead right to the starter, and manually connect to batteries. Bypass all the switches and contactors. You just wanted to hear the engine run, without having to fix the damn thing.
LOL... I was like... "Is he gonna start that with those lines open?"..... I am laughing, due fact that I have done the same dang thing, as I got so focused and determined to figure out one issue, that I forgot about the most basic issues, ever being a problem... LOL... That was great. I don't feel so bad now. I really enjoyed that. I know it wasn't fun, but, it still made my day, that I am not the only one to do the strangest stuff.. about once every 5 years, I do something strange or stupid, which always puts my dumb a$$ back in check, and so far, I have been lucky, as I am still alive...lol
LOL, when you said you were going to try firing it up as you walked past the hydraulic hoses my first thought was "I hope he has the pumps disconnected". NOPE, nice gusher!
Ya kno the first thing i thought when i saw them hoses hangin there was "is he gonna bridge them or cut off the pump?", and then as the video went on, i knew what was coming hahaha. Reminds me of the few times i started engines up with the trans-cooler lines disconnected. Only have to make that mistake once or twice...
Love your videos bro. I’m new to being a diesel mechanic and a lot of the trucks I work on have a CAT c15, c12-c13, ISX12, or a Mercedes MBE4000. Your videos are helpful and extremely detailed. Keep it up man!
I remember a good while back reading about how the older scrappers every jobsite was using and how uncomfortable they were and how many back injuries the workers got from driving them for a few years and then they redesigned the scrapper to be more comfortable. I just felt bad for the workers that got hurt udriving them for years and probably didn't get any relief or compensation from CAT or anyone.
The fork lift was definitely a good idea to keep it from smashing yourself to death. and I had a feeling the whole time you get it fired up, now I wonder how I knew that. no doubt another AWESOME video keep up the great work.
I’ve done a few of those transmission, if it is the trans I could almost bet it’s in that drop box, the ones I’ve seen have almost always blown up that differential in the bottom of that drop box, parts for that drop box are scarce too!
Good to know, thanks. Looking at possibly running a couple of these trucks, don't really see where 740s are a big improvement. These rigs are a good bit cheaper.
Would love to mount 4 little hydraulic powered wheels from a small cherry picker hooked up to the hydraulic system of this beast. Gonna be some burnouts.
Man Cat isn’t very generous for cab space on those, on the Volvo’s I’ve run the cab is full width and there’s enough room you can put extend both your arms out and never touch a wall, it’s almost like a small house instead of a cab, sort of like the old D9’s. You should weld a giant caster wheel like what came on the old Elgin street sweepers on the back and make a donut rig out of it
you could probably make what ever repairs the front part needs and find a decent rear chassis for it and put it back together and have a driveable unit
Reminds me of old times. I worked for Atlas Copco Wagner Mining Equipment Co. As a diesel mechanic at their plant in Portland , Oregon. Atlas Copco purchased Wagner from PacCar about 1990. One reason was to develop a large 3 axle heavy haul dump truck. So in the mid 90’s after looking at a Norwegian built light haul 3 axle truck they engineered from the ground up a 65 ton 3 axle truck named the full back. It wasn’t bad but for cost savings they went with a German made transverter assembly instead of a Allison equivalent. The difference was about 10,000.00 back then. The German made was as I call it the big Z . I can’t spell the name but it’s the big German company that builds transmissions and the spelling starts with a Z. The hole project was a money pit. It was plagued with a lot of engineering issues and Warrenty issues involved with a sales contract with the Staton Island garbage land fill. They finally sold the rights to the truck and technology to a undisclosed purchasers in the late 90’s. I believe it might of been Caterpillar but not sure. I’ve looked at some Cat trucks and I see a lot of the fullback in them. Their where some trucks that in the aftermarket people modified the power unit with a Allison transverter assembly and liked them. At Wagner my opinion was as is that they bit off more then they could chew. I relate it to building the space shuttle for the first time with the limited engineering capabilities at their disposal. So that’s my story on these big 3 axle trucks.
