Rustoleum "Trim and Bumper" is a satin black(they call it semi gloss) I have used on my truck wheels. Very durable on a clean smooth surface, the salt from winter and rocks tend to chip it, but you will find that of any paint. I would touch it up every year after winter, always looked nice after :) Also, love the "cop" style wheels you are going for, at least here in the US thats what they had on all the Crown Vics! I am partial to white lettering on tires, as well as white walls :D
I did the white lettering on mine back in the 1980s and it stayed white for all of a week 😂 then turned to purple lettering 🤔, purple & black not a great combination 😉. Nice fix on the reversing lights 👌🏻 and yeah my dad often had his car washed in the rain , sleet , snow by me 😂, 9 years didn’t have many options back then ☹️ it was either work down the Mines or wash Dads car 😂.
First turn of the key and away she went, nice one . Steve if you get a white board for jobs to do, I think you might need quite a big one lol 😂😂. Great video, keep em coming mate 👍💯
Black wheels, chrome hubcaps, maybe not highlight the writing in white. But that's just me, she's your baby. Either way, it's a great look. Can't wait till you start the body work. My dad had a '69 HB estate when we were kids. Came with the old style buff logbook showing the previous owners. First owner, a Mr. Black, second owner a Mr. White, I kid you not. Anyway, I can still hear that Viva coming up the driveway, bringing Dad home from nightshift. Great car, never let him down. Another great video, keep 'em coming.
Hi Steve i can sleep better now u've fixed the brake light 👍👍 Love the way its starting instantly now. They didnt do that when they were new . V5 we all became registered keepers in 1975 when registration was taken off councils and DVLA was set up. Put a bit of something over the undercoat temporarily undercoat is porus , either a bit of clear lacquer or ( near enough ) gloss. Just to stop trapped moisture Great video as always
Steve I love your videos! How jolly you are, how good you are at troubleshooting any problems! So patient and collected! Loving how she’s coming along - it’s a labour of love! Keep them coming, fella!
My first car was a viva hc . I painted my wheels black then put the hubcaps back on plus chrome trim rings which covered the outer rim. So it looked like the wheels on a GLS .
Good vid👍🏻. Nice to see all those little jobs such a brake & reverse lights being done, means your getting there, That proper test drive can’t be far off now👍🏻😁
Wheels look good for the sleeper style. White lettering would look a bit “Carlos fandango” I think for the mighty Viva. Great video mate keep them coming please 👍🏻😊
Rustoleum Hardhat would be the paint to go for imo, great colour blocking coverage, great finish, really durable ,and sprays a lot nicer than smoothrite ,looked great on my vw .
yeah you go for the white lettering on your tyres. I got the white tyre pen and I am going to doing my wheels when I get a new set of tyres for my land rover. Keep up your good work on the car as well as your videos.
Keep plodding on man 😎👍 halfords do decent covers that will keep her dry. Had loads of different low price ones over the last five years or so... which have fallen to bit eventually and let water in... this one has lasted the winter intact and kept my mk2 that lives outside dry 👍🙂 weather wild where i live and strap it down with clips and bungee cords underneath
Hi Steve great vid mate. Love the black wheels and the shiny chrome, really suits the car well. Definitely would benefit from some deep dish steels at some point ! Glad to see the brake light fixed haha . Looking forward to next weeks as always mate ❤️👍🏻
Route master for hire is a good channel . Shame they aren't going to post any more the owner bought a yacht and went sailing sold the company . Brilliant to watch them do engine work ect.
steve, the black wheel with chrome caps, reminds me of ford crown vic. not a fan of the white lettering on tyres, but it's your car at the end of the day!
Have the same reverse lights on the Sunbeam and they have rubber gaskets in there, as for wheels I rubbed them down inside and out then oxide primed them then 3 coats of smoothrite using brush, they look like new inside and out
The replacement one i bought has a full rubber gasket in it but the 2 original ones on the car only had little gaskets around the screw holes , I might make a gasket for the other one, nice mate I'll check out that smoothrite stuff 👍
You can tell from the way the car starts and sounds, that your in the ballpark with your ignition and fuel settings. Cheap trick to clean chrome, bit of CIF ,solvo also work well. Black satin rim with chrome caps, nice retro look, writing on the tyres, personal thing, but somehow Nano doesn't fit with a retro car! 😂 Hope your family watch, if they do, next time they see you playing with electrics, shout bang....🤣🤣
Good morning from Portugal. I'm bad with English so I'll be doing my comment in Portuguese. 👍👍👍
Try using Google translate - put your comment in and it produced this "I spent the last 2 weeks watching all the videos. The HC is not my favourite, I learned to drive in a 1968 HB Estate. I'm enjoying seeing what will happen with this project. Regarding today's video, my opinion is that the wheels should not be black but like the original in gray, of course it is my opinion. Continue with the same enthusiasm. I'm here waiting for the next video. Hug from Porto in Portugal." Makes perfect sense in English
You got through a right lot in this one! Liking the look of the wheel, you could try the aluminium foil and water trick for the pitting you mentioned. I like the letters highlighted on the tyres, you could try gold to match in with the bodywork. Great vid, once again, thanks for sharing. I'm away to paint my kitchen window.
Nice to get those little jobs sorted, wheels great painted black, hubs caps came up a treat, I done the lettering on the Mk 1 Cortina when I had it, great vid mate.
Some chrome trim rings might look good on the black wheels, and hub caps? Personally I hate black wheels they never look clean.! But as they say "each to their own"
Cracking video as always mate...keep going! As with everything, it's the little jobs that mount up...glad you got those reverse lights sorted! Just a question, you've got that other Viva at your Dad's place...are you ever going to restore that one? Or is that simply a donor car if you get stuck for parts for the yellow one? 😂 - Steve
Thank you mate! 😄 once I get moved house and have space I'd like to get the estate to mine and then take a good look at her on the channel and take it from there, I'd love to restore it on the channel money and time allowing, I'm just borrowing parts off her for now 😄👍
From what I've understood in the past , when it says Registered keeper" it's referring to the registration number is owned by the dvla, the car is yours. With the wheels they look nice in the satin black with the chrome center cap, would possibly look even better with the outer chrome rings too. But I put on JBW steel pepper pots. 13x7, they look pretty chunky. I clean my chrome with brillo pads with the pink soapy stuff in them, seems to clear stuff off nicely. Where was it you got your chrome wiper blades from? Keep up the good work, it fires up spot on now. 👍
Thank you mate, I know the exact jbw wheels you're talking about I've always fancied a set of them too, I got my wipers from holden vintage and classic website, there's some canny stuff on there 👍
Mirror 🪞 Mirror 🪞 on the wall, that hubcap polished up well, those late HC's also occasionally came with embellisher rings behind the hubcaps, about three different versions. Don't know whether any second hand being available ex breakers yard, a bit long in the tooth now those Viva's. I would be tempted to put whitewall on those tyres, thats ring stencil heat pressed onto the tyre, once popular in Canadian export models, if I recall correctly, the HC was the Pontiac Firenza, and the HB ( & GT ) was called Envoy Epic in Canada. The problem with those reverse lights ( Wipac ) is there is no return ( earth ), you were heading in the right direction with an aftermarket earth to say the RWD ( rear window dimist ) earth in the boot 👢 Great to see your boot light working 😊 I had the same problem with my mk1 HB headlights parker ( side light bulb ) in the end I just soldered a wire to the side of the bulb to the radiator mounting bolt 🔩 to achieve satisfactory grounding. Vauxhall remedied this from 1969 onward with the mk2 HB rectangular Cibie / Lucas units with a return on the harness. Don't forget to elaborate more on Car Verticle ( UK style ), as we in the colonies are more perplexed with car compliance specifics. I did like the bit about once a classic is forty years old, not requiring the standard "M.O.T" Looking forward already, to the next installment Steve, thanks, Vernon ( New Zealand ).
Hi mate the government doesnt own the car, you do. The receipt from where you bought it proves who owns it. Usually it'll have the sellers details, the car details and your details. It doesnt need to be owt fancy, it can be scribbled on a tab packet. The V5 proves who the registered keeper is. The registered keeper is liable for making sure its kept road legal (insured, taxed etc or in your case showing as MOT exempt and "taxed" at the zero rate). This is who they'll contact if yiu get a speeding or parking ticket etc. Its the registered keepers job to say who was driving if somebody else gets a ticket in it for example if you loaned it to your mate. You're doing a cracking job and you sound local-ish to me. I might pass you on the road some day I hope we can have a bit crack at some point
Alright mate 👍 I'm back from holidays 🛫🌞🌞🇪🇸🍻🍻🥃🥃#magaluf!! ...and now all caught up with the Viva man's antics!! 🤣 I'm not really a fan of black wheels but to be fair with the shiny ✨ hub cab and the bright orange they look cool 😎 white letters are your choice 🤔🤷♂️ yeah as other comments don't leave it just in primer as its porous, dust some paint over the top 👌 also buy some etch primer 👍 fair play it fires off the button now 💪👏 typical North East weather 😐🌧️🌧️ could of cried getting off the plane 😢😭😂 have you seen the Chevette on market place?? 🤔 hope there's enough emojis for ya! 🤔🤣🤣🤘🤙🤟👍👌
Alright mate , hope you had a good hol, yeah I've seen the chevette, if I had space and time it would be mine 😄, I'm just checking out a place to get some paint mixed up, so it won't stay in primer, that's plenty emojis mate 😆👍👍👍👍
White lettering would look fab and the registered keeper may not be the owner i may be wrong but its probabably got something to do with all these finance deals you get these days where you don,t own it for 4 years or whatever after payingbit of
Iv never understood the mot exempt cars over 40 year's old the mot is there for your safety. If anything the old rust buckets would to be more unsafe than today's cars 🤣
The thinking behind it is that an awful lot of classic cars are only used for shows or come out in summer . Classic insurance limits your mileage , and classic owners are more likely to maintain their cars and not leave maintenance till they are forced to by an mot failure
There's probably more cars with dodgy mot's on the road than there is unroadworthy classics mate, I've seen some states with 12 months test on them 😆 you've give me a good idea for a future vid tho 👍
@barryscrotter👍 it has a little tuck in the arches because I've fitted higher profile tyres than the originals and lowered the car slightly, still plenty of turning room tho, the wheels are pretty narrow, when I fit with wider wheels I'll have to fit lower profile tyres tho, or they'll definitely interfere 😃
Meh~ “registered keeper?” Sounds like some Equity bull💩😝 Registered Owner is better 🎉 the wheels would look good with white lettering, racy car touch for the wheels. Deep dish Watanabe JDM wheels would look awesome on the Viva. Not sure about the Viva PCD, most old JDM cars though are 114.3 PCD. But I think deep dish old skool wheels would just change the whole look of the Viva for the better!🏁🛞💨💨💨
@Retro Rebuild yea , be good for a seasoned welder to fix but otherwise its pretty much done. Did you see the panhard video. Those cars fascinate me , not sure why.
Thanks for replying back to me,I'm so chuffed a real life RU-vid star 🌟 has replied to little ol' me.I can't wait to get to work and let the lads know. They will carry me round shoulder high.cheers.
Instead of paying crazy halfords prices get yasel up to pelaw av taylors. Tha van is in all ya videos so by rights you want extra discount for advertising. Also your getting carried away with the Thing T impressions i was never a fan of the adams family lol.
