I'm so glad I found you on RU-vid. I have 2 player pianos. I have an old Haines Brothers 52 inch upright and then I have a newer 1980s Aeolian Keepsakes upright player. (45 inch piano) the piano is taller than the actual instrument inside. (deceptive) LOL
The motor sounds as if the centrifugal switch doesn‘t disconnect reliably (that loud humming ist the start winding still connected). This is a crucial part to be working flawlessly because the start winding isn‘t meant to run continuously and would eventually overheat!
Nice one! Good that it was in original unmolested condition, no fun to follow mediocre past work, as I discovered. With the flap valve mods, that pump should now have enough power to create a black hole inside the lower half of the piano 😄
Yes! This project has been such a nice change of pace from the basket case Fotoplayer project I straightened out last year. Thanks for the laugh today!
In this case (where the motor is moving the pneumatics), changing the material won’t be as much of an issue, but in most cases keep in mind that a thicker material doesn’t respond as well and can hamper performance. This is why original pneumatics used rubber cloth because it’s thin and flexible. If you need to replace rubber cloth with leather in the future, try to find leather of as close to the original thickness as possible.
Superb episode Nate - it's coming along nicely. As usual, thanks for the effort you put into the videos as I know editing is very time consuming. Ha, loved the pressure testing in the bloopers - I thought it was all going to explode on you 😂😂
Great Video Nate I Enjoyed It Now I Know Why The Mansfield Massachusetts Country Store Coinola Was Playing On A Lee Silent Suction Box The Owner could Not Restore The Box pump 😊
Great video. I’m about to start rebuilding the rotary pump on my 1927 Auto deluxe pneumatic player. I was curious about the silicone gasket material you use. How thick is the sheet and where do you purchase it from? Your videos are an inspiration.
I'd love to see your project! That's my favorite brand. I checked and the supplier I got the silicone from is no longer around, but it's 1/16" closed cell sponge silicone sheet.
