I’m with you. I have a Steam Deck LCD. Once I saw the OLED announced I decided I would try out the Legion Go, and if I didn’t like it I would return it to Best Buy and buy the SD OLED but I think I’m keeping the Legion Go.

Same, I'm also coming from LCD Deck. and I knew day one, I was not going for an Oled. Legion is the prize, since I having it by launch ...for one the display on the Legion is the upgrade 8.8 vividly immersive display and not this 7.4 nonsense valve is putting out with the oled ...more raw power of the Legion is going to kill the rest of these handhelds, not to mention Legion is way more innovative. Oh one last thing, I play steam games on Legion and remote play PS5 😂

Steam wont just totally sidestep out of the way of the handheld competition at the moment, because they're being more ambitious than just jumpstarting the pc handheld space into the mainstream. They would love Steam OS to become the defacto gaming OS no doubt. They're going to keep pushing for the foreseeable future, perhaps even with a new steam machine. That's the way I see it.

Yeah, I think the next steam machine is less than 3 years away. Would be way easier than releasing the os for all hardware I think, because of all the driver support. They could also design their own boards and the cooling solution for the cpu and gpu, and basically make it more of a console than a pc, but running an open Linux

I agree with what Rich said about valve customer service. It's good when it works. You can find old threads of issues that never got resolved on the steam forums. And if you're unlucky enough to have one of those issues, good luck.

I had the steam deck, rog ally and the legion go. I used the steam deck for 4 month, the rog ally for 6 month and the legion go for 2 weeks. For me the the Rog ally is the best Handheld out there. Ppl always say Windows is a minus but for me it is a big plus. Imo Linux is just bad for gaming. At least for now. So many of my games wont work on the SD because of anti cheat. The xbox game pass is not working to. The steam deck is a good device but for me it is not the first handheld I would recomend for someone who is looking for a handheld. I was using the steam deck with a dual boots setting into windows, but windows on the SD is just bad. The legion Go was a big disappointment for me. The portrait display and nor VRR just killed it for me. I was able to fix almost all of my portrait display problems on it, but the ally with VRR is just so much better. The weight and dimensions of the the device were a minus to. The weight, 16:9 display and vrr makes the ally for me the best handheld out there right now. My SD card reader still works but I dont use it lol. But the new models fixed the problem anyway.

I really need Microsoft to have a gaming-centric operating system. Call it something like X-OS or Windows(x) Gaming Edition that strips out all the legacy stuff and unnecessary bloatware that's bogging it down.

If the Ally had a 60wh battery it would be my favorite. I’d also prefer an Oled 800p Screen and a second usb c.

Yea my girl flipped the script when she found out I paid 600$ for the Steam deck 😂 but she’s really going to hate me when she realizes I’m buying the legion go for my bday lol 🤫

i have to wait a bit to save up for a steam deck but if asus announces an oled ally with a better battery i will go for that instead for sure.

Still don't like windows on hand held, even with ally's thing. It just isn't seamless and all sorts of weird things happen. TDP doesn't readjust as well, for instance. I still get windows that pop up in the front.

For fighting games, you will need the Ally and Deck. For anything else, after I installed the Vram 6 beta bios, I have to say the GO

When it come to upgrading hardware annually. Think Steam has the best mind set regrading upgrading the hardware when it warrants price to performance, and enough of a visible upgrade to performance. My case may be rather extreme but im still rocking a intel 4790k but have upgraded gpu's about every 2-3 years till now i am no longer gaining any benefit to performance. i have a Win600 that i use for emulation and some modest indie windows gaming. just have be happy with what you have for a bit unless got money to burn.

I would be glad to have an OLED steam deck, but I only have 96 games on steam out of 500 and some games I have on my PC. Most of which would be pretty decent on a handheld, but there are a whole slew of Amazon games that I got free and also a crap ton of free epic store games. I don't want to jump through a pile of hoops to get those to function on steam deck. I think steamedex sales would be far better if it was easier to run other games outside the steam store so that leaves me with a Windows handout option

I have the same problem with the updates in ROG Ally. I solved disconnect the "Core Isolate" on Defender and everything works fine now.

I am still amazed that they have a computer that can fit in my hands that is more powerful than my home pc from 2016. Not just that, it can play AAA games. What an age.

I wanted to say thank you for the podcast. I think you bridge the gap between prosumer and consumer. With a little bit of my IT background, I was able to get my legion go right but it is horrible for a person who pays almost $800 for the mindset of it to just work. Apple as a brand has shown us for example if you invest enough for quality it should just work. (not saying they're perfect ) With that said I love the Legion go for the pro side of things but if for example, my mom likes games it would be the Steam deck. Even for a pro, I get anxious still having to do stuff manually and read through to update to which driver, etc. Lenovo just needs to do better and they will get better.

The idea that older products wont be supported is completely unfounded. These are windows devices. As long as AMD is updating drivers you get updates. And i have had my asus g14 for over 2 years now. I get all the updates for their asus software just like the new ones do as they all are programed to run on windows.

That doesn't fit the whole valve steam narrative. Your right...the devices are good for a few years on AMD updates alone. The rest of it depends on how powerful the chips are. Alot of these devices will last for years with really the only thing needing to be replaced is the battery. I can still play a good chunk of games on my GPD WIN 3. Hell....i can play Elden RIng on that. Of course it's gonna stuggle with the newer stuff though.

I ordered the AYN Loki Max for $550 because I wanted a smaller handheld around the size of the Switch. That's the biggest reason why I don't get a Steam deck. It's just too big for my liking

25:49 I don’t understand the big push into handhelds by asus and Lenovo with such tight profit margins. Makes more sense when it’s a smaller company that does them in smaller batches and can sell them for a grand and make a few hundred bucks on each unit.

Would I pay $1400 for a portable device? absolutely. but trying to have enough battery capacity and cooling for the strix halo seems impossible in a handheld. Maybe a surface like device (rog flow z13?) with a 60-ish wh battery and even then the turbo mode is maybe 50-60 watts on a chip rated up to 120? seems like the juice might not be worth the squeeze

Microsoft will more than likely not bother with doing something custom with handhelds. These windows based handhelds are a super niche product. When it comes to on the go gaming, the switch, laptops, and phone reign supreme. The only way I see it happening is if they make their own device. And $1400 for a super device nahh, at that point just better off getting a laptop lol

I know I’m late, but it may have to do with aggressive monetization of GTA 5. Or aggressive shutdown of fanmade mods. Or maybe low effort trilogy “remakes”.

Can't make gyro work on Destiny 2. While setting the gyro for game on Armory Crate I only have the option of mouse emulation (no left/right stick) setting left gyro enable button to left trigger and Gyro enable button behavior to on and noting happen. If i set button behavior to off, gyro works but none of the buttons and Ally work. Changing the gyro enable button to anything does noting for me. Any one having same issues?

I’ve owned all three devices and ROG Ally is the winner for me. Legion Go is just too big and heavy and Steam Deck OLED 800p and lack of VRR isn’t cutting it for me. I mostly play AAA games so I’m okay if I can get 1-2 hours of gaming a night. 1080p, VRR, Z1 extreme, lightest, and most compact of all 3, Asus hit it out of the park with this one. Oh, and they just dropped the price by $100 to make it even more compelling.

😂 you got that right Legion Go is the Daddy in all that order...Oled is upgrade but it can't compare to the Legion these cats fooling there selves with this oled upgrade which is not really major. A upgrade is Legions 8.8 in display with a range of 1600p and better is an upgrade. Raw power
