Legendary Miami Hurricanes running back and two time national champion Melvin Bratton explains what a championship culture looked like with the Canes in the 1980’s. Melvin and fellow standout running back Alonzo Highsmith had opportunities to play at any top program in America, but they chose to stay home in South Florida to win championships in their own backyard. The decision paid off as they both went on to win championships in Coral Gables. Bratton discussed their team mentality of wanting to fight any outsiders who picked a fight with the group. He described it as a true brotherhood.

Bratton explained why he believes in current Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal. Bratton tells the infamous story about waking up Brian Bosworth in the middle of the night to talk trash. He describes his bitter-sweet final game at Miami, where he was part of a national championship victory but also suffered a knee injury that affected his NFL career.
