Oh, they do. I had to get my congressman involved because they just arbitrarily changed my tax return (the legal document I filed) saying they owed us less. They informed me with a letter then don't answer the phone. 10 months later and a ton of effort and coordination with my congressman's office we finally got the $6,400 they owed us. We got $87 in interest, for $6,400 that was worth 8% less ($512) than when they owed it (thanks to their inflation). Then I had to claim that $87 dollars the next years on my taxes.

@@pegph4988 Of course, the IRS can be abolished! A 3% - 7% sales tax, at such a low rate, would apply to any product at every sales point in its production. For example, an automobile. The raw steel would be taxed when it's purchased. Various parts from specialty manufacturers would be taxed upon shipment, etc., etc., etc. If it is sold, it is taxed. And you are correct, every black market would also get taxed. I believe at such a low rate, businesses would boom. I do not believe that there would be any shortage of work for accountants. On the contrary, I believe accounting would become a major boom industry. Companies always need to protect the bottom line.
