This “conspiracy” is not really a “conspiracy theory.” It is a very plausible theory, knowing USA loves to investigate corruptions in foreign companies and states and use their extensive military to press their asses to jail, FIFA is knowingly corrupt, there is no question for that. Unfortunately, no powerful country loses anything from FIFA’s corruption, so they turn the blind eye from FIFA’s blatant obvious corruption.
World Cup final: Argentina vs Qatar Messi missed the game thanks to “mysterious illness”. Qatar was unable to get in Argentina’s box all game while Argentina went full attack mode all game and scored 5 goals…all of them were ruled offside (including Julian Alvarez’ 30 yards long shot goal). Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Di Maria and Lisandro Martinez were sent off on 60th, 72nd and 85th minute causing a substitute Dybala to go on the pitch as a center-back. On 90+10th minute, Dybala committed a foul outside the box but the referee considered it a penalty. Qatar scored. The game ended 1-0 with the host Qatar as a world champion.
Lol cool story but at least we expect that from Qataris, not like 2002 South Korea acting chill and democratic while being a referee purchaser behind the scenes.
This absolutely reeks of hypocrisy. Anyone can have their likes/ dislikes when it comes to how countries do things but bringing selective virtue signalling into sports is hypocrisy at its peak. So no country should be allowed to host the world cup besides those that are completely innocent, apparently. The US is decidedly NOT, being the main western power that perpetuates the Gulf. It has also slaughtered way more people in the middle east than Qatar over the past decades. This speaks nothing to my personal opinion of Qatar, which is low, despite some of their slow positive changes. But I also separate these feelings from this sports tournament, something many new 'human rights' advocates similarly did with the Chinese Olympics. (China is currently committing genocide). Aside from bribery, nothing else should get in the way of a neutral sports tournament, as long as there is no interference. Why? because sports is a platform and a foundation for discourse as much as it is competition. Want to change Qatar? go there and talk to the people instead of pissing on them when you've never met a single Qatari. the majority of Qatar are foreign workers, many of whom are from the subcontinent. The vast majority aren't 'slaves,' or what the decidedly racist western media would tell you. To claim that is an insult. Being South Asian myself, I can say that despite Qatar's treatment of workers, many more are living in relative comfort and are a part of the nation's success. And politics doesn't determine whether a country is a good host or not. That is up to their determination to run a good World Cup, which they have in spades; as well as the hospitality of their people, which Arabs have in spades. If you're resorting to complaining about beer and how catastrophic its loss is I don't know what to say.
youre either brainwashed or terribly misinformed. almost EVERY World Cup, as Maq says at the sportswashing part, has had its controversies. This one is just really bad. stop seeing tunnel vision and just seeing your arguments. Like me. I was open to you changing my mind and giving me another perspective but what you said is ass and invalid, imo :).
@@Shaiya-Jin "This one is just really bad" merely because the media noise is louder, and there's less consequences here than criticizing a country like China. Finally a reasonable person in the english- speaking community. I want every single RU-vidr/streamer that travels to Qatar for the world cup to experience just one day of working in the same conditions of the workers in Qatar. Lets see if they still spread the "Everything-is-so-coo-here" propaganda of Qatar.
Tbh I’m not even excited for this World Cup at all. A World Cup held in winter instead of summer, the human rights violations, deaths of workers, lack of accommodations for fans and other officials…This World Cup is a disgrace for the Beautiful Game, I hope something like this never happen again💔 RIP to those departed souls 💙
you aren’t alone i haven’t seen or heard anyone even talking about the world cup other than my dad and even then it was one convo where we were talking about who we thought would win
Please, do a video essay on corruption and exploitation on the last few world cups. I know that Brazil, Russia and south africa had a decent share of issues that could relate to this video and show a pattern on how fifa choses the WC hosts.

He never said the world cup would be bad he said the host Qatar was an awful country to host it in due to their laws and the way they treat their LGBT communities and their women in the country.
@@duckey6806 the west especially America has no right to play moral compass. Why didn't yall keep the same smoke for Russia 2018? By your logic, The states shouldn't host 2026, given their horrendous history and present day evils- unfair treatment of black people by the police and justice system, insane gun violence, destabilization of many countries etc.
I don’t doubt the worker’s rights violation by Qatar and that’s something they should work on but the west is hypocritical. Similar violations happened in Brazil in the 2014 World Cup but no one spoke up about it and now some of those stadiums are sitting there empty. No one is talking about the human rights violations of Israel on Palestine, China on the Uyghur Chinese, Indians (small minority of hindutva) on the Indian Muslims, US being involved in the Middle East for the past 2 decades, British and their conquests and compare to those I think Qatar stands a world apart tbh. Regarding the lgbtq rights, the country is a Muslim country and people should understand that Islam doesn’t allow that as a practice so it should be understandable why it is banned. You can be from that community and come and watch the games but the moment you step beyond the line and start portraying then it’s going against the rules and that should be understandable. Lastly regarding women, I don’t doubt that there are rights violations in Qatar for women but to say that women are oppressed that’s not true. If you speak to women who live there, they will tell you how happy they are (not accounting for those that are actually oppressed which are a minority). Just because some things are not on a western standard doesn’t make them wrong. We should definitely stand up when there are any violations but there should be an understanding of balance and respect and fairness. Lastly, just because you don’t follow a religion that dates “a 1000 years ago” doesn’t mean other people don’t so have some respect for people that do. It goes back to the hypocrisy of having the same standards for yourself as you do for others. @Maqwell
No one is talking about the shooting that took place in Colorado at a gay night club. No one is calling that an act of terrorism. Why? Because when a white person shoots up a club or a school it’s not considered terrorism but it’s their mental illness. The measure of criticism and accountability need to be drawn out correctly!
Really great reporting and subject overview of a very complicated but important story… Especially in regards to world football. Interesting to see how these developments might play out in the coming month. PS good choice of SH2 music as well.

Wasn’t really because it was in Qatar though, it just had some good matches. If anything it’s remarkable that the World Cup could be so good despite being in Qatar and run by FIFA 🤣

As a Filipino, I can attest to the failed promises part of being a migrant worker in Qatar. Our country, the Philippines, has a term for migrant workers abroad - OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers. In our country, people who lack sufficient education or lack sufficient financial resources to live or lack the qualifications necessary to get a decent job enter agencies that assist workers in migrating aborad to work. I've seen several soon-to-be OFWs jump for joy when they're accepted to work abroad only to go back years later with their physical condition worse than imaginable and their pockets still empty because they have to send money to their country because their promised wages are higher than expected. It sucks that these workers are going through these hardships just to feed their family only for greed and "prosperity" of Qatar to break people's lives and their optimism towards the world.
As someone who lived in the middle east the culture thing not being LGBT friendly isn't truly baseless as people here really hate it, if a government in this region turned a blind eye to it the people themselves would never allow it and yes there are the ones who are LGBT friendly but they literally don't amount to 10% of the middle Eastern population both Muslims and non-muslims
Oh, as a South Asian I'd love to thank the white folks of Europe and America to finally show us the true face of Qatar. You guys truly stopped the poor people of this country from choosing Qatar as a 'destination to earn far far higher wages than they would in this country'.
I think the "it's their culture we gotta respect it" is the most despicable argument there is, thank you for adressing it in particular. And that's why i'm infinitely disappointed in Lloris, my country's team captain, who used this argument to explain why he wouldn't wear a rainbow armband and AT THE SAME TIME said that human rights violation was a problem in qatar and that the french team would show their concern in some way during the tournament. Isn't the LGBTQIA+ oppression a human rights problem aswell ??? Sorry for the vent but i'm mad
15:00 to 15:42 is so important and true. "Culture is not discrimination towards a certain group of people. Discrimination defiles culture, it is as simple as that." Fucking tell em Maqwell!
No surprise that alcohol was banned from this world cup, but it's disgraceful that they waited for people to buy their tickets and get to the country before they finally decided YoU gOtTa ReSpEcT oUr CuLtUrE, banning all alcohol in and out of stadiums. Of course, this is a minor issue compared to the laundry list of lines this world cup has crossed.
Normally I'm very much a believer in "never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity." But not here. It's obvious that FIFA officials were bribed. They didn't "mess up", they were corrupt.
I made an essay about this topic back in 2021 for my class but I don’t think anyone was paying attention 😂😢 but just glad people are realizing about fifa corruption now. The paper was relating to human rights.
FIFA corruption has been a suspicion by fans since the late 1970s. The Sepp Blatter era cemented those suspicions, but nothing was done about it until 2015.
It actually got worse this morning as it was just announced that beer won’t be sold inside stadiums during the World Cup. Budweiser who provide $100 million to FIFA for exclusive rights of beer sales at the World Cup just found out less then 48 hours before the World Cup. During the last World Cup, the Russian government stated they were struggling to cope with severe beer shortages during the World Cup.
I'm not even remotely upset about this. Budweiser was the same company that, in 2014, joined with FIFA in basically running over Brazilian laws banning the sale of beer at soccer matches, laws that were enacted for a reason. Good to see Bud taking one hard on the chin for once.
@@Number1Camper and why is that? It has been part of sports for an extremely long time, so why does it not belong there? Sure, some fans overdo it and drink too much and cause problems, but those people can be dealt with and kicked out, everyone else are behaving and just having a good time

@Mk the US have footballing pedigree and should have won the 2022 bid. And unlike Qatar, when the US commits human rights violations, people actually speak out against them. Also, love how you're calling Maxwell an "American propagandist", which just shows you didn't watch the video
Man: thanks for doing this. You are not the only one of course but it is very important that the record is set straight from every corner and unfortunately other football content creators dont seem to care. Thanks!
One of the best videos on this topic. I will also watch the WC because of my passion and hype of football, but I am happy to see that so many people are boycotting and interested in true side of Qatar and fucking FIFA. And I feel like a lot can happen and change during and after World Cup
I've been watching the world cup since italy 1990, and i'll probably watch this one too, but to have to think about the hundreds that died in order to make each match possible, is extremely saddening. I wish the teams and players all boycotted this event. Fifa says:" you have to play in qatar in 2022", players say: "no thanks bye".
Quick question: If players "hypothetically" say NO to going to Qatar for the World Cup, what would FIFA or Qatar do? Unless it's stated on their contract that they have to participate...
Man, that John Oliver video on FIFA opened my eyes and broke my heart at the same time. Like: no, powerful men can't use something I love to do horrible things... Right?
Well of course people are killed in the US. The difference is that the deaths in the US have no connection to football. The workers that died building the stadiums have a direct connection with football

diffrent countries = diffrent morals. The religion in Qatar prohibits alcohol consumption and bans LGBTQ +. I completly dissagree with the mistreatment of migrant workers in Qatar and neither do i defend them. But the fact that you're trying to change a country's morals (on alcohol and LGBTQ rights) is backwards. Just because the west has a certain Liberal belief dosen't make u have the moral high ground. when your coming as a guest to a country dosent mean you own the country and can change their laws/values/morals/religion. The hate is mainly leper from the west because they missed out on the competition this year, so now they think its okay to comepletly hate on this country making them extremly childish. im not even from Qatar and have no relation to the country and i can see this obvious western bias. No bias this was I think the best world cup i've seen. The final was the most exciting final of all time no debate, The shear unpredictability of matches gave us results id never thought id see like South Korea vs portugal, Brazil vs Croatia, Japan vs Germany, KSA vs argentina, france vs tunisia, brazil vs cameroon, and morrocco's incredible run to make history at this world cup.
Dude, you say that "when your coming as a guest to a country doesn't mean you own the country and can change their laws/values/morals/religion" that means if it's hosted in let's say France that French people have the right to be Islamophobic and to treat anyone who is brown worse than they would treat someone white? That's the point you're making here and it doesn't hold very well yes you can have different views on issues but that doesn't give the right to openly discriminate. Also the matches that happened doesn't excuse the fact Qatar handles itself politically if you listened to what he had said and not took it at face value you would've realized about what he meant.
