Will replacing Pre-Applied thermal paste on AIO liquid cooler make the CPU run cooler (YES IT WILL)

So the thing is, I was getting quite high temps on my Ryzen 9 3900X, the CPU would touch 86 degrees Celsius while rendering videos and the CPU would always idle above 50-degree celsius at 26-degree ambient after much research and googling and almost everyone said that it's normal for the Ryzen 9 to run this hot even on a 360 AIO, but I was not convinced, so I swapped the old stock pre-applied thermal paste with a Cooler Masters MasterGel Maker and Voila saw a 13-degree temp drop while rendering videos. It seems like the old thermal paste was completely dried up and was stuck on to the CPU block, I had to scrape it off.

Note: 1. The cooler was installed properly prior to changing out the thermal compound. 2. Ryzen 9 3900x runs hot! the idle temps in the video are normal (google if you don't know) 3. The airflow in the Crystal 570x is meh, due to the front glass! contributing to high temps. Lastly, don't be a turd, if you leave a rude comment I will block you instantly.

@@elbi.6172 It's just thermal paste man, nothing will happen, you'll need to wash your hand later and this thing does not come off easily🙈

Makes one wonder if it would just be worth it to automatically remove any pre-installed thermal paste and just replace it with your own quality paste. Nice video, thanks man🙂

Not a bad idea, I will be building a new PC for my dad very soon, will definitely remove pre-applied paste and use aftermarket one.

Removed the thermal paste from the aio that came with my nzxt h1. Thanks for confirming that was a good choice! It still runs really hot though since I didn't have any paste to replace it with

Its surprising how few other people install a coffee mug inside their builds. After the motherboard it's the first thing I install! Nice video, going to be doing this when the new cpu arrives next week, with my Z63 AIO.

I was getting pretty warm temps out of my AIO also with a 3900X .. it's just a hot CPU in general. My 5600X now runs far cooler.. 10c cooler at idle. I would like to see more AIO tested for stock paste vs Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut extreme which is supposed to be the best out.

It works thanks for the inspiration. My cpu was about to meltl.. Now it's 13c cooler at idle and it cooled it down 33C+ while suring the web with aps open

Was helping build a PC in my computer class. We didnt have any thermal paste lying around for the cpu, a Ryzen 7 2700, and we had a Corsair H100i that we couldnt use because we dont have a case that would fit it properly. I noticed the pre-applied dry paste on the cooler and rubbed it on the CPU and screwed the stock AMD cooler on, now the temperatures are INSANELY cool. It idles at around 25-35 degrees celcius (previously it idled at 40-50 celcius with the stock fan paste) and I have never seen it go above 60 degrees, even while playtesting GTA V on high settings (yes, I actually played GTA V in school lol, my teacher is really chill). Couldnt crank the game all the way since it only has a 4 GB RX 570 in it, but thats still insane.

I recently tried the pre-applied paste on NZXT AIO. It was overheating in the BIOS before even installing windows. I tore it down, added my own and it immediately solved the issue. I don't know if anyone has ever had success with the pre-applied stuff, but it seems dangerous to trust it.

I had the same problem when i bought a ASUS ROG Strix LC 120mm. Had like 85-90 Celcius when running cpu craving programs, and the paste was like yours all the paste on the cooler block and nothing on the cpu. So i re applied new paste. and the over all temps went down like 15 celcius. ^^

Hi Tech Guy Charlie, I hope you are doing well, I have a set of question and it is related to my 120 Liquid Lite coolermaster CPU FAN. I had brought my GPU on 8- December 2018 and would like to know that today date is Dec 16, 2021 i.e 3 years so would like to know that whether i need to change the paste of the liquid cooler or not. Is this liquid inside the cooler is lifetime or has to be replaced after some time. I read some where about the paste Arctic MX-4. Second question that comes to my mind is that how do I clean my GPU. Do i need to clean the dust around its vents. It would be great that if you can answer my questions. Thanks a lot

Replaced my stock thermal paste with Kyronaut Thermal Grizzly in the NZXT 63 Kraken and now my idle is straight 60 degrees when before it was 35-45. Idk if it was the paste but now it’s straight 59-60

Working with Thermal Grizzly thermal paste is horrible. It's not easy to apply and to remove. Arctic Silver 5 is way easier to handle and as long it is as thin as possible the thermal resistance of the thermal paste is irrelevant.

@@TechGuyCharlie so the paste was definitely old but a larger issue presented itself in that the LGA 1700 standoffs were too long and wasn't allowing the cold plate to contact the socket at all. I replaced them with the shorter 1200 standoffs and with the new paste, I'm up and running. So thanks for video man. Really helped me out with the idea to try to swap the pastes.

Yup Sounded like a 3900x 😁 this CPU likes to run hot! and the temps are all over the place, you should get better temps after replacing the thermal paste, but don't expect them to drop a whole lot. Turning off PBO helps, but I love the extra performance.

Hey Arturo, its the MasterGel Maker Thermal Paste from Cooler Master. I don't have the purchase link for this particular one, as CM has come out with newer variant, but if you search for MasterGel Maker, you should be able find it.

Sir I have Asus Motherboard CPU with Currently windows 7 OS, But Prroblem is, Now I try to install windows xp in this CPU. But CPU gets turn off automatically while installing OS. Then if I used already install windows 7 it works fine without any problem.. Please tell me why happening this in installation time.🙏

Your problem might be drivers, Windows XP is old, I don't recommend installing such an old operating system, you'll have a lot of driver and software issues. Go with windows 10.

No man, you should not re-use the old paste, clean the old paste completely and apply fresh paste!

Exact same thing happened to me on my 5800X with the Kraken X63. Temps dropped almost 30F using Arctic MX-5 thermal paste, stock paste was so dry.

Hello Dear, i have Ryzen 9 - 3900x and RTX 2060 GPU. i installed cooler master ML360R AIO after I'm facing problems in my GPU. My GPU temperature is going to be High 60-84°c. When i turn on my pc after my GPU temperature is running 41°c without any using task with 0% uses. Please help me.

This is normal, I would not worry about it! My RTX 2070 idles around 55 degrees with the fans off.

check power settings in the nvidia control panel. it could be on max performance. change it to normal or adaptive whatever option there for your gpu. It will bring the temps down drastically in idle condition

@@TechGuyCharlie you could go with 240 to avoid that, but I think you prefer rgb over performance ☺️. Watch your link again cuz intel stock cooler perform better I guess. 42c on Idle with 360 rad..kill me😭😭😭
