@@MontyCantsin5 Boris Johnson is a remarkable and admirable person. He got the UK out of the EU when *all the conniving, snivelling ant anti brexiters in Parliament were doing **_everything they could_** to obfuscate, lie, plot, scheme, all to be the fifth column they really are.* Boris Johnson is head and shoulders above the lot of the self righteous swindlers.
@@MontyCantsin5 To each, his own. Monty. You have one opinion. I have another. Nothing you say is a source of amusement, to me. It strikes me as condescending, self righteous, pompous, ignorant and on the whole, something that *I did not seek for.* But, you've seen fit to bleat out your views, so there we are.
And then what... what after they fuck off? What you going to do, lead yourself? Do trade deals with your next door neighbour? Form your own police force? Create your own taxation system? Monetary system? Benefits?
Well it's nearly three years on from this and I am very glad that the people and political parties of Britain did set aside their differences in the end and came together to make Brexit the resounding success it has been...
Dreda is so vague with her arguments. She just labels Will Self as 'angry' and 'we need to move on and come together'. She didn't clarify once in this interview why she voted to leave.
***** She appeared on quite a few debates during the referendum; question time and other shows, not just on channel 4. I'm trying to figure out why as I've never heard of her before, and although her intensions are good, her knowledge of politics seems limited.
I love Will Self: Look, what's that? Is it a bird, is a plane... no, it's Borris Johnson come to deliver you social democracy and a more equal society 😂 😂 😂 😂
I think he's angry because he is face-to-face with the kind of stupidity that lost the UK $350bn in 8 hours after the vote ended today - more than we contributed to the EU budget over the last fifteen years, including the rebate. (See Tweet by Guy Verhofstadt, former Belgian PM).
Not personally mine, obviously, but national wealth with the potential to build, say, lots of new NHS hospitals (although we should soon be getting a new one every week from EU contributions savings according to the Leave flier that came through my door).
Thanks Margo. It's not that difficult, is it? I fear, however, that this time we ALL lose (with the exception of the next wave of Tory leaders and others insulated by their extraordinary wealth and power).
I couldn't agree more, and was saying as much during the referendum in many places. The working class got off their backsides and voted overwhelmingly for Brexit.
It'd be nice if Dreda could focus on the substance of what Will is saying rather than constantly harping on about the way in which he is saying it. Not to mention cynically pulling the gender card towards the end.
To be fair she's only doing what socialists do constantly,, and if you have a problem with her being like that then you should have a bigger problem with Self, he constantly told her that she had a lot of people feeling upset and sad because of the way she voted, not that I think you'd notice that..
No it's not. He was using his size, looming over her, jabbing his finger in her face, and continually interrupting her. I was surprised he didn't come right out and tell her she had to vote Remain because she's black. I think she did very well to get her point across in the face of his provocation.
Oh FFSK...I thought Will Self was dead....Not seeing him or having him on TV shows since he demanded double appearance fee's on HIGNFY ( he got told to fuck off ) and then seemingly disappear from our screens, lulled me into a false sense of security by having me think he had died and we were free of his bullshit left wing bile , while he was living life as a millionaire.
She has no answers whatsoever. She's totally exposed and encapsulates perfectly the total vacuousness of Brexit. No one has the first clue what to do now.
This couldn’t be a more accurate look into the future. Two years later here we are. A country riven by dissent and rudderless. Dreda who, like others of her persuasion, handed the country off to a Tory party shattered by civil war, is nowhere to be seen on the topic. Especially after Windrush showed her the type of people that she consigned the fates of the millions of European immigrants. What strikes me here is her intense naïveté and lack of knowledge of the structures that she thought wise to campaign to crash. But here we are, and there is nothing that can be done on the topic anymore.
She probably couldn't be bothered to look up "Geopolitics" in a dictionary.. Vote leave were never the type to research anything, unless vote leave published it, were they?
labour luvvies keep missing the point. British people are concerned about mass immigration that's why they voted leave and that's why they won't vote labour under the current leadership.
Some Labour Voters want Brexit but not the majority. The split was 70% Remain and 30% Leave for Labour Voters. Labour has not lost voters to the Tories or UKIP/Brexit Party but to the LibDems & Greens. The Tories have lost voters to UKIP/Brexit Party. The irony of what you have said is that Corbyn is a life-long Eurosceptic who has campaigned against the EEC and then the EU and since the referendum has campaigned to be out of the Single Market, which of course would prevent Free Movement of People from the EU.
It's all good saying this referendum was about unhappy people who felt forgotten by westminster wanting to make their voices heard - but you already have an opportunity like that within this democracy - it's called a general election. the EU had little or nothing to do with austerity that was implemented in britain after the banking crisis.
Will may well have been angry, but he was incredibly obnoxious here. If you're at the point you're ready to punch someone, maybe you go and walk it off instead of agreeing to go on TV.
Self is a hypocrite i've lost all respect for him. He rants on about ''what about the people who feel their lives are shattered'' completely disregarding the fact that fifty percent of the nation were feeling exactly that, which is why the nation has virtually been split in two. As usual through lies and scaremongering the powers that be have us fighting among ourselves to deflect the blame when in fact its been both Labour and Conservatives that have caused this mess.
We are now 7 years on and Brexit has been an abject failure, in fact a disaster. £100bn a year lost, including £40bn a year in lost taxes, so record taxes and peace time borrowing to fill the gap. Also, lost rights to travel, settle, work. Extra costs on trade, travel and communications, making some unviable. Musicians and artists catastrophically ruined.
He desperately wanted to call her racist. Yoy could see him thinking... "If only they'd invited someone white on so I could end the debate with one word...racist!!!!"
'Tribal' Labour ... 'they're not the people you think they are'. Oh, so that'd be the people the Labour party was set up to represent then? The people we're told are losing their jobs to Poles because they're 'lazy'? People who, just like the 'Eastern Europeans' who Self is so concerned for, also need to make a living in the face of globalising big business. All Europe means to the poor and unskilled is greater competition for that level of work - the 'right' to move to Poland in return feels like a pretty unfair exchange to a whole swathe of U.K society - and it's a consequence of a bargain they never made anyway. I'm willing to bet that the white working class is just about the only social group who Self would so confidently and unashamedly speak about in these terms. Self's arrogant, ignorant, self-righteous prejudice shines through (as does Jon Snow's bias). Well done to Dreda Mitchell; articulate, strong, brave in the face of his hectoring, inarticulate bigotry.
I think you'll find it is the remainers who are the problem. There was a free vote and the public made their decision and yet remainers seem to be rejecting democracy. They have done everything possible to block votes, even taking it to the courts despite there being a very long held tradition of separating the judiciary from the government. The supreme court ruling has caused a crisis within our system which we will see affecting the UK for many years to come and remainers have the audacity to claim Brexit is going to cause harm? Just wait until Labour get back into power, any decision they make could be taken to court because the precedent has been created which will prevent judges from automatically dismissing cases against the government of the day. Remainers have the mindset of a tyrant and the attitude of spoiled children.
Are you so deluded to think that the contemporary presence of POC and Black people is/was dependant on white people being civilised? Are YOU So racist to think that Black people and POC should take into consideration the views of white people who seemingly do not give one HOT DAMN about white poverty and use white poverty in order to separate the Working Class by RACE? What is it about yourself that you think you have so much to give that a person like me ( black) would hold your hand just because you claim not to be UKIP or a "Firster"? You vain white liberals need to chaco your privilege. And maybe to get "our" trust, you had better show as much genuine compassion to the poor of your own than to "those poor over there" that you hardly mix with anyway. If you had a brain, you would realise that those who are witness to white poverty are usually the same POC that White Liberals dump in the poorer areas (historically and contemporarily). Then you lot have the audacity to deny that POC are usually overwhelmingly working class or poor in the West ( the bastion of liberalism) by erasing us when it comes to talking about the Working Class. And fuck off with the |because overt racists vote for Leave, it means that no POC should vote Leave" rhetoric. That in itself shows that you are a racist who denies the inter sectionalism of both the White working class and Black/POC in general.......ie, you are not the liberal that your ego has lead you to believe. You are as racist, if not more than the average UKIPPER, because you have decided to deny the full humanity of a black woman and the poor of your won race in order to make yourself feel superior. If you were a Ukipper then I would say "fair enough". But you aren't so , in fact , YOU are Will Self and all you deluded white liberals who think as basically as you do. Head's up, honey. If you have nothing to give to "the cause", just own your basic self like millions of people around the world have to do every day without being sneering and racist and superior. There is nothing wrong with being a white person who just goes with the flow. Rather that than an earnest do nothing who needs "the other" to hide their shallowness behind. Leave the harder stuff to others, eh? Effete, fey, anti community, monocultural, anti"edge", too middle class, too establishment, anti wisdom, ageist, anti get anything edifying done, anti intelligence (over educated) and conservative is what the Modern Liberal Movement has become. And to take it to the bridge, we now have "the progressives" who are the most conservative and seemingly sex starved ( if one is swerving, one hasn't time for all those inarticulate tantrums that seems to be the MO of too many of THAT lot) movements ( at least in the way that progressives manifest themselves and the argument stifling tactics that they use) seen in my lifetime. So fuck off with your stereotyping of how black people should be and act in order for your white so called liberal self to feel better for your views of life and how you hold them. Pick you own fucking cotton, you drip! Or better still, go and do some good works on behalf of the white poor that your kind like to keep poor, so that anti white anger from POC will be directed at them. The better to hide racism and the "othering" disposition of the white middle class liberal behind. If you don't like white poor, how you gonna like POC, most of whom are poor or working class ( and that is WORLDWIDE )? Or is it that we poor POC have, perhaps a "vibrant" culture that is quite moneymaking and that you can carpet bag behind whilst denying to yourselves that poor whites have a culture because it isn't as commercial ijnhe uk as it was in the Sixties? No wonder David Bowie left up from the UK. Poor him , if he stayed here and the hypocritical liberals got a hold of him. Better to go to America where, at least, the average person finds it harder to hold in their hypocrisy and ALL dynamics, including "liberal Racism"are talked about amongst ALL and out the side of their necks. The average Liberal in the UK doesn't like it upland at them. Maybe that is why the white woking class hasn't been allowed to gain any shine since the sixties....the poor sods only went and made Britain Cool and did the whole social mobility thing too bloody well. And therein lies another well of fear for the over promoted middle class liberal.......he/she secretly knows that they cannot let the white working class "out" because then, too many POC working class will follow and thus the mediocrity and blandishment of middle class white liberals will be seen, in all its flagrance. Any industry that they rule, especially "the Arts" become dull .
@@samtorr3947 on 9 June 2015, MPs voted by 544 to 53 in favour of the principle of holding a referendum with only the Scottish National Party opposing the Bill. Labour and Lib Dems voted for it...
Cross-party, we all have to work together?? When has that ever happened. Anyone who thinks that the vote to leave the EU will give working people more say, more rights or more of anything at all is very badly mistaken. This was the wrong vehicle for 'rebelling' against the establishment.
I think she's perfectly well educated, but it's very difficult to get your point across with someone looming over you, invading your space, waving their arms in your face, and continually interrupting you.
Will Self is acting like a petulant child. Another one who hates democracy when it doesn't go his way. The referendum wasn't about Gove or Boris, I loathe them both and the political cloth they're cut from. It was about people outside of London, which despite his protestations Self doesn't understand, seeing no positives, only negatives from our membership of the EU. Where are the likes of Self championing the English fisherman, the Steel Workers in the North, the car workers in the Midlands - he doesn't really care, London doesn't care and Brussels's doesn't care - and that's why Remain emphatically lost.
Will Self offered political issues that need to be considered, with consideration for the country and the people who make up the country Dreda Mitchell offered abstract concepts of no substance, taping into people's most powerful way of thinking, their emotional side.
I'm not British and I don't know anything about what factions within the Labour party these two represent, but Will Self doesn't come across as having much of a point. Is he really accusing Dreda Say Mitchell of being a Boris Johnson supporter? Or is he just bitter? Mitchell is talking about what comes next for Labour, and Self is basically saying he isn't ready to do that yet. People's lives have been shattered, dammit, how can you be so insensitive, why don't you all go vote for Boris Johnson if you love him so much, etc.
With regards to Uk's immigration policy, a Leave vote is essentially saying ALL immigrants will be treated equally. What's so racist about that? I suspect many don't realise that we already have a points-based-system, it's very discriminatory and it's currently imposed on non-EU migrants.
What's with Will Self, why cant he respect people's will to change the status quo. I am not even British nor live there, but why should a vote basically against free movement of people be such a disaster. Its the norm in the majority of the planet.
The problem with Self is that he's full of his own importance. He gets wheeled out so often for his views that he's convinced himself he's got the answers.
Well, is he wrong? Dedra claimed that the referendum would make the politicians pay attention to those who feel they've been neglected. It's been three years, has that happened? And were the issues with the constitutional northern Irish border a major part of the crisis as Self suggests? Given that the DUP were given 1 billion pounds in order to prop up support for May's deal?
Still no reply to the comment above.. Says it all really doesn't it? The British were led off a cliff and everyone else is laughing at them, while they claim they are doing brilliantly, as we all see them falling through the air, towards the ground. Such is life... 😂
The problem here is that Will is making sense in an intelligent way with credible points & Dreda along with many foolish leave supporters can't understand his intellect.
Never heard of this woman. Not intending to read her books. She won - but she does not feel triumphant or victorious. Sounds a pretty hollow victory then doesn't it?
The problem with Will is he keeps prodding Dreda until she gives him the answer he wants, which never happens. I'd suggest if Will discovers this flawed part of his character and adjusts his attitude appropriately, he may be able in future to have a more constructive debate with Dreda and ultimately give us the viewers something more like intelligent content, rather than just an angry bear swiping at a reed in the wind.
Zed Zoober I'm not rubbishing his entire output, I'm just talking about this video. And I'm a fan of Will, watched many of his talks, read many of his articles and watched a few of his short films, all of which I thought genius. But I'm not the sort of fan who thinks he can do no wrong.
Nah, you go fuck yourself, liberal boy. Do you know Dreda. Are you as good in your field as she is in hers? Did you do your thing the hard way. Or are you a badly brought up Millenial? You need a beating. Not a dignified man on man beating. You need for somebody to take of their belt and buss your raws. "A bit thick"? Please tell me where Will Self proved his intellectual superiority?
I disagree we don't want politicians to come together that idea is why we had so much apathy over the years. I won't to see these politicians hashing it out on subjects which are relative to all of us in the UK.
So Will, a load of people came to this country in order to benefit themselves and now they'll have to go home. So what? What's wrong with their homelands? Why don't these tireless grafters put in some work back home? If 500 million Chinese wanted to come here to look for a job, should we let them? Some of them? How many?
LOL 2:54 Will's head movement and expression when she deadly seriously asks if he read her Twitter. 4:09-4:20 LOLOL Damn, credibility lost for her when she called him a patriarchal finger pointer. If she'd just called him a finger pointer or an asshole she wouldn't have lost the plot.
People used the referendum just to have their voices heard? It wasn't about that. It was about whether to stay in the EU or not, and anyone who voted with anything else in mind was... Words fail me. The stupidity of it all. Will Self nails it in this.
Turkeys and Christmas come to mind. If there was a referendum on repatriating, say, black Britons to the countries of their family origins, would DSM still be saying "that's democracy"? I don't think so. Anyone who thinks that Brexit will benefit the working class needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
ive eard that from people.. we need people to come together (leave the eu) WTF HAS JUST HAPPENED GUYS. There are people who took acid at glastonbury on thursday night who are never coming back to reality...
Will started steam rolling Dreda a bit but meh... Roll on the general and a period of authentic politicians like Boris, Corbyn and McDonnell having a proper debate about a peaceful and prosperous future for the general british public. Hands off our Human Rights Act too you bastards.
I have a councillor,a council,an MP,Parliament,A Lords,a mayor,an assembly and massive great EU stuck on top.and the horrid BBC to pay for.BREXIT,Little victory shrinking voter
This is what will happen: The EU will hold together, it will reform in to survive. In order for the EU to hold together it will ensure that Britain is given a bloody nose. There is a massive chance that Scotland will vote for independence, but this is really too close to call. Regardless Britain will be a tiny island right next to a massive trade block. In order for Britain to compete in the world the country will have to have a favourable climate for businesses and corporations to remain trading within it. This will result in lower corporation tax and a further reduction in workers rights; the NHS will disappear, services will be cut including schools and police. The most worrying aspect is the slow decline of the banking industry, this will not be an immediate thing but instead a slow decay of London as a major financial centre of the world. The financial industry in Britain is our only major industry and as it dries up we will see a considerable shrinking of the economy.
