@@violetwyvern6289While you're right that most bugs don't chew their food, it's the burrowing bugs like termites and vegetarians like caterpillars that have pretty close to our mouths and chew their food.

Way I thought of it was he was only able to talk because of the body he took. He only spoke once without it at the very beginning, but it sounds like it could be a translator device. That's how I imagined it anyway

It's hinted in through out the movie that the bug has a huge complex on how the earth versions are treated on the planet. In the first act Kay mentions to Jay how the bug has a huge superiority/inferiorty complex. When they confront the bug in the morgue he states "ever pull the wings off a fly, care to see the fly fight back". He saw the roaches and assumed he could garner some sorta reaction. it was a gamble.
