I use this in my studio as I know it’s not an ideal set up and I noticed a huge difference and also in my headphones. I had so much high end in them originally and the difference is just amazing! So cool that it worked in your campervan haha love that!

That's so cool Linzi, thank you for your input, I'm glad it works on your Headphones 😍 haha yes, it was quite a surprise because the speakers only sound a certain way depending on the room so it could fix both in a way haha

People can say whatever they want. OF COURSE getting a golden ratio room with thousands of dollars in gear and acoustic treatment is better! But the thing here with SoundID is to get a FLATTER response to make mixes that TRANSLATE BETTER!! I’m a professional producer, and my studio is treated and sounds good without Sonarworks, and I’m sure I could do great mixes in it. But, with Sonarworks, I can get a really similar profile throughout all my headphones and speakers so I UNDERSTAND sound BETTER and I can get a cool result quicker! For me, the only thing that Sonarworks can’t fix is reflections, because you can get a flatter signal but you will get a “blurry” sound. But still better than not using it! Good video :)

Thank you for sharing!!! Totally agree haha I remember asking someone to give me a tip on which pre-amp to get on a budget and the answer was:"Ey, just buy NEVE" .. well thanks for THIS tip and maybe also a SLL console to it That's exactly what the software is designed for, to allow us getting a better reference from the home studios, really value your input here!

Hi Ady. Great fun to see your video with its kind of “artisanal” mood. Very relaxing and also educational. I just point that (i) you covered your personal license of SoundID but then showed it in the next minute 😂; (ii) I feel that for the measurement maybe it would be ideal to have the measurement mic always in a stand for the various position takes, since they will be free from movements or interferences of the body. Cheers.

hahahaha omg really???? I got to check this! Yes, I agree the problem is I couldn't setup a mic stand in the camper ;)

Great video Ady! And funny. I've used it many years now and after switching to reaper even better. I have placed the sonarwork plugin last in the Monitor FX after my meter/measure plugins. So I don't have to turn it of during bouncing/rendering . LOL it even works with my 2.1 cheap Logitech computer speakers sitting in a corner of our bedroom.

Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience Jonas, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! :) That's a very very smart feature from Reaper, I will add it in the 2nd video and share this golden tip ;) Wish you all the best man! Haha maaan this is amazing when it even fixes the logitechs!

I had the same dip around 100 hz, which seems to be reflections that cause cancellation, the sonarworks calibration boosted that frequency by ~10db. I did a sine sweep test afterwards and I still was able to hear that dip around 100 hz. I double checked with REW and the dip was still there. It makes totally sense that sonarworks couldn’t fix it if it’s a cancellation, simply put if I have a frequency where the waves subtract, let’s say 1-1=0 and then i try to boost that frequency then I have 2-2=0. you can’t fight physics. It also won’t help fighting reverberation, echos and comb filter effects in your room. But in the end sonarworks does make a good job, frequency response sounds so much flatter now.

Man, thank you so much for this explanation, that's exactly the point! I think Sonarworks can really help to point out these issues, really appreciate your good-quality comment! That's why I like doing these videos, to have this exchange of knowledge from everyone and start conversations so we all can learn! Wish you all the best!

Which speakers and/or headphones do you use in your Home Studio? Let us know below!

I am using Kali in8 like you and AKG K240 Studio (the gold ones) in my little log wood cabin. since the door is in the center my setup is on the left on front of a window so I don't get reflections from the side. but the corner is about 60cm from the left speaker so there is a big bump in the bass. I am using IK multimedia ARC3 to correct that and it is awesome too. difference of switching it on / off is dramatic. the calibration is a little more difficult as you have 7 points to measure in 3 different heights. But to use the plugin is a lot more user friendly it has additional correction eq , low and highpass for the fx and a drop down with speaker simulations such as NS-10, laptop speakers and "car test". The interesting challenge is to make all Sound of in windows go through it as well - for this I use a software called Pedalboard 2 together with VBCable which allows me to chain VSTis into my windows listening chain. So when I listen to Spotify/ RU-vid the sound is corrected the exact same way as my mixes, only downside being a little latency. I think this is important when comparing reference mixes and to get used to the "corrected" sound at all times.

Fantastic video Ady! I use Sonarworks and can also give it thumbs up! I just spoke with Jeanie this morning that I'm going to put a rug back in control room and recalibrate my speakers. I'm using Dynaudio BM 5s, but am hoping to get a pair of the IN 8s as soon as I can afford it. The Dynaudios are great for rock but to my ears lose a little in midrange detail. Thanks a mucho amigo mio!!

Thank you so mucho David hermano for sharing your experience with us!!! That's a good move to re-calibrate after putting the rug, there is so much that can change frequency wise with this one move! Keep me updated, don't forget that you have some % on @Kaliaudio speakers when you are PLAP Member :) They are totally worth it!

15:58 I don't think that's the mid range driver in the in8. don't they have concentric mid/treble at the top and the bottom driver is bass only. btw I think your tape measure is probably metric (cm) and not imperial (inches).

Perfect, we will do the fixes in video 2 when measuring the "Tiny Dome" setup :) And thanks, that explains it all, metric/inches 😂

good afternoon, I noticed that at the beginning of the measurement you turned the input of the microphone to the maximum, I had the same moment, I thought that something was wrong. are there any problems with the fact that the microphone can be overloaded during measurements and clip, and does the noise of the preamp of the card turned to full affect the measurements? sorry for my english
@HitTheRoadMusicStudio

Hey thank you for watching, short answer: No this is not possible, I turned up the input but it’s far far far far … far away from any distortion! Hope that helps

thats a crazily good freq response from 1KHz upwards, for producing in that room! I've defs had worse rooms than that looool

Surely "can", but it does not make any sense. You MUST have the best possible gear and room adaptation first to get best results. THEN you can use calibration software and correct only small things which improve sound. You can't boost or cut narrow or, what is worse, wide freq dips and peaks by 6-8-10 or more db and expect that your gear will give you better sound! Most speakers will suffer that amount of gain. Not mention phase issues because of enormous amount of correction applied on your system. And forget about "completely flat freq response" bs once and for all. The best studios on this planet have about +/-3db to even +/-6db freq response range fluctuations and guess what? Many great recordings were made in that "imperfect environments"! First room and gear then correction! And don't forget about skills and ears of audio engineer!
@HitTheRoadMusicStudio
@HitTheRoadMusicStudio Год назад
Yo thank you for your input and also: Chill ;) there is no substitution for daily practice, ear training, no substitution for simply doing it and getting feedback from peers - but that's also not the topic of this video ^^ There's obviously some kind of humor in this review - you are fully right, there's no flat-response in this world (luckily), we are all humans and alone growing up with different records, in/from different era's make the big change on how we perceive music sounding "right" and "wrong" Anyway, there's definitely a big improvement with this software. I think it does make sense for hobby engineers or people who get started and of course, if anyone wants to be an audio engineer and do it for a living they should get the best and treat their rooms and train their ears.
