Clint, Just a thought that was taught from an old timer was to coat new gaskets in a thin coating of bearing grease, that way when you have to replace them thay come off in one piece no scrapping.

I had a 1976 Thunderbird with a 460 as well as a pickem" up truck...loved the motor.

Hunter you are a very lucky young man to pretty much restore the high body and the best trainer. Oh yeah he has the credit card to. Dont forget that. This truck is going to be so amazing when its all finished. Guys i love heavy equiptment but this father son project is the best.

I have enjoyed watching this build with you and your dad and can hardly wait to see your first drive in it. That pickup is reminiscent of many of the Ford trucks I’ve built in my lifetime… Not gonna lie… It’s making me a little jealous. In the olden times we used cork valve cover gaskets because we had to go in occasionally and adjust the rockers and the cork could be reused many times. In the old days… Rocker adjustment was part of a standard tuneup.

You can adapt a hydroboost brake booster to fit in place of the vacuum booster. It is significantly smaller than the vacuum booster is, and is a lot more powerful. You will have to run an additional line from the power steering pump to power it. You may have to modify or remove your current booster bracket to fit it.

If memory serves me, 1977-1979 Ford pickups had the 5 spoke hub caps. Might be difficult to find a 16" 5 spoke hubcap, but that would finish it off nicely.

This video proves that there are young adults in the general populace who love mechanical work. They are the ones who will always have a job in the service and repair industry while making a very respectable income. Yes, they may attend and graduate college or university in a liberal arts program, but they will have a fall back job, forever. I knew one, young mechanic who completed certification for Airframe and Powerplant certificates and then worked in a shop for automobiles that advertised, "US Government certified mechanics." This was in the late 1980's and the shop rate was $75.00 per hour.

I always enjoy these father-son builds! Interesting modifications. Should be a great vintage ride.

If you sit on the floor facing the truck you can use your legs to lift the tire on it’s way easier plus way easier on the old back

Had a 1994 F-Super Duty with a 460. Took the factory resonator and muffler off and welded up a Flowmaster muffler. Sounded like a gem..for a work truck it was a head turner, sounded like it belonged in NASCAR. Great video!!

I'm watching @43:51 and your motor mount bolts don't appear to have any protrusion into the nylon locking nuts. Also a nylock will probably melt out under the headers anyway.

Clint, As a father of two boys, I know the importance of teaching my sons important life lessons, and also how mechanical things work. My father was an aircraft mechanic for the US civil service and he taught me so much about how to fix and repair things. I just wanted to compliment you on the investment that you’re making in your son with his education of the rebuild of his truck, and the patience that you’re showing him by allowing him to do most of the work. This is not only teaching him about how to build things and how they work, but it is in stilling in him a tremendous amount of confidence and pride, in the work that he’s doing. I am sure that every time he drives that vehicle he will feel that pride and it will come through to his friends and family for long after this truck has come and gone!! You guys run a first class professional & clean shop with top notch Equipment. I like the way you explain things with your boys and the viewing public on whatever project you are working on. I bet you put more than a few bucks in the Highboy project

The bell housing bolt pattern is the same but depth is diffrent on a 460 .we make a 3/8" block plate to make up the diffrence .your new plasma will make the plate u need . The351 will bolt up but it loads the imput shaft at the pilot bearing

On the brake booster, you can set it up for a hydro boost from a late 90s 7.3. It'll require some modifications to the firewall mount and pedal mount.
